Gone! Burned to the Ground! 9/15/2006

This is very sad, but this restaurant burned to the ground in July 2006 and I haven't heard that it will be reopening any time soon.\r \r Such a sad loss of a good place to eat in an area where there are very little other restaurants. more

Best garden and grounds at a family restaurant 6/26/2006

After reading the reviews posted about this restaurant I was a bit hesitant in trying it out. What amazes me is that no one mentions the beautiful garden and grounds... for that alone is worth the visit. It is a shame that the service and food are not as exciting- although not bad. The menu really needs some more healthy options!! I understand the complaint about pricing- but I did notice that all their produce and meats are organic and grain fed ect. which I will gladly pay extra for. For all those that are looking for cheap meals perhaps applebees is what they really want. The staff needs some polishing as they seem a little lax, but not unfriendly- The kitchen needs to rethink their menu selection and consistantcy. Some items where great (new mexico nachos) and others were in need of some spice and finesse (fried chicken lacked flavor and over cooked slightly) I'll continue going for the great ambiance and hope they improve the rest. Pros: garden and grounds- flowers everywhere!! Cons: healthy menu options needed and consistency in food more

Yuck! Yuck! Yuck!!! 6/10/2006

This was our first and LAST trip to the Grill. Lets start with the hair in my burger, now this wasn't a hair that had fallen onto my burger it was molded into the patty itself... YUCK. Then there was the nonexistant service, when the waiter finally did come back to the table to take the half eaten burger all he said to me when I told him about the hair was ""thank you very much"", guess they don't train their staff to listen to their customers. The 3rd and final straw was the fact that when we were paying, NOBODY asked how everything was or even Thanked us for coming in. Now my husband is a chef downtown and I have worked in the business for several years. This sort of treatment is just plain unacceptable. I recommed that if you do go to the Sweet Oregon Grill be sure that you go when they are busy, because if you are one of the few tables that they have... you food will be cold, overpriced and hairy. Pros: There weren't any Cons: Hair in the food... what more can I say? more

Inconsistant 3/26/2006

I really would love it if this place improved a bit. The ambiance is great, happy hour prices are good, so are the drinks and snacks. The trouble is, the food is really inconsistant. I had a spinach salad one day and thought it was great....the next week it showed up and the hot bacon dressing was anything but hot, and had congealed all over the salad. Things can also be really really greasy-the mac and cheese is just way too creamy & fat laden. Like I said-I wish they'd do better with their dinner quality & prices. Maybe add a few items for the health concious?? It could be great, but at this point still leaves something to be desired. Pros: fun ambiance, happy hour Cons: service is spotty, food inconsistant, nothing too healthy more

This is our favorite place! 10/9/2005

We have been coming here up to a couple of times a month for the past 3 years. I love the mac and cheese and crave it all the time. We ALWAYS receive our food within fifteen minutes of ordering! We love the atmosphere, staff, and menu. We have friends and family that visit from Europe, Australia, and various areas of the US and we always make sure to take them here because we know it will be a good experience. We are not rolling in dough and consider the prices to be reasonable for the great food. The only complaints I have had is sometimes the water tastes strange and the lunch menu wasn't as good as the dinner menu. Go here and make your own judgement! I plan on having them cater my wedding!!! Pros: great mac and cheese, good for organic food, good for vegetarians Cons: none! more

a lot of money for a very avarage food 8/12/2005

We have returned to Sweet Oregon Grill for breakfast after a 6 month break. We had good memories of the place even though it was always overpriced. We like the ambience - wooden floor and wall, a feel of a country home. But this time we were very disapointed with the food. The price is high , but the quality is below avarage. The omlets were too simple to charge $9, the food had no good flavor and it looked and tasted like nothing special. The change was so much for the negative that I do not think that we will be comming back. Pros: good parking, outdoor garden Cons: bad value, poor cooking more

Good Drinks, service. Food bit overpriced. 6/2/2005

I have been there the last two Friday's. They have good indoor and outdoor seating. The happy hour drink specials are great! Service was average. They were fairly responsive. Food is good although I think it is a bit overpriced. Fish and Chips are $15. Food choices are a bit limited but they have weekly specials that are good. They need to be a bit tailored to the season. As it is June the meals are a bit heavy. I recommend it as it is not overcrowded, good drinks, good drink prices, food is good even if a bit expensive. Pros: Drink Specials Cons: Food pricey more

need a new manager 8/12/2004

Menu is poor and overpriced. The quality is low. This could be a really great place if the menu improved. The ambiance is good when they have bands. A major improvement was the elimination of smoking. Address the menu, provide quality healthy food at a reasonable price and this place will be packed. It's a nice place to check out some jazz bands. Pros: bands, atmosphere Cons: , quality, value more

disappointed 8/20/2003

A group of 11 of us went for lunch. The service was non exisitant, the food was WAY overpriced. It took an hour to get our food (by then...it was cold) and then we were charged an 18% gratuity on the bill. We even had to chase down our own knives and forks in order to eat. The quality of food there has always been good, but lately it's just not worth going there anymore. more

horrible at best 8/7/2003

My husband and I have eaten here in the past...but will not ever again. We took my parents who were visiting from out of town. The service was horrible. They served my mom thighs instead of the checken breast she ordered and insisted it was breast meat. The waitress did not come back to check on us, offer a refils, it took forever to pay the check. When we go thome I sent in an email off their wesite and mailed a letter and no response in the last two weeks. On a previous visit to the restaurant, they forgot to put in our order! At least that time we were offered a free desert and they acknowledged the mistake and appologized. Don't waste your time for not that great food and worse service. Pros: easy to find, cute place, nice garden Cons: over priced, poor service, long wait for food more

Inconsistent. 4/3/2003

The quality of the pies has always been a draw for me. However, it seems like the quality is hit or miss. I visited in 2001 and was never disappointed. Lately, my halibut was great, but the pie was mediocre at best. I'd still recommend it. Pros: Artichoke dip Cons: inconsistent more

hope you're not hungry 10/15/2002

i recently went to sweet oregon grill for breakfast and waited nearly an hour for my food to come. luckily the weather was nice still and i was seated outdoors, because for the price of the food at this restaurant you would expect service to be a whloe lot better. I have also eaten here for dinner and the service is not much better. the food always seems to take a long time. Irregardless the food is good. Pros: food quality, outdoor seating, garden Cons: service, expensive, expensive more

Blue,s and Country 8/6/2002

great place, great food, great music, very reasonal prices. comfortabe surroundings more

Pure Oregon! 7/29/2002

Great place! They have a beautiful perennial garden to walk through, with every flower marked with its name. The pot roast, which is served only on Sundays, is superb. Just like you wish Mom could make. The after dinner coffee was the best I have ever tasted, and I have had some good coffee. An all-around most pleasant dining experience! Very unique! Everything is made fresh from scratch, down to the tender rolls and salad dressings. Don't miss the spinach salad.......the 1/2 serving is enough for two people. Pros: atmosphere, beautiful gardens, service Cons: a drive from Portland more
