Good Deal 5/12/2002

Go here on a date or with a group of friends. Its an almost-perfect dining experience because the space is attractive, the food is excellent and the prices are reasonable. Because its a tapas restaurant, youre fine if you just want a snack or if youre hungry for a big meal. Be careful, though. Once you have one Pisco Sour, youll want to ask the server to keep them coming. Pros: Menu, Prices, Atmosphere Cons: Inconsistent Service more

  • The Scene
With its dripping altar candles, blood-red walls and funky almond-eyed Madonna paintings, this neighborhood tapas bar has the feel of a hip lounge. Inside are two narrow rooms--one stocked with comfy chairs and another featuring a fun corrugated tin bar and a grouping of small tables. Service is low-key and extremely friendly.

    The Food
The short menu features flavorful small plates. If you're here with a few friends, it's easy to cover the entire menu, but be sure not to miss the Jalea (fried squid and fish served with jalapeno and tamarind salsas), mellow, sweet garlic shrimp, and especially some variety of yucca (either fried or tossed cold in a garlicky marinade). Lomo Saltado (fried potatoes tossed with peppers and beef sirloin) and marinated, grilled pork are ideal ballast for a big night out. Need a new cocktail vice? Try the Pisco sour.
