I found these folks by working along side them in a Habitat program, where they were installing an Energy Star level Heating and Air system. When I checked them out for work as a subconractor for my business, I found them to be very competitive in price and conscientious in the field. Their technicians were well trained, polite and thorough. I have used them multiple times now and after 25 years of contracting, these guys are far better than anyone I have worked with. Honest is the Word I'd use. Don't forget, there's always the possibility that a customer writes a bad review because the customer was the problem, not the contractor. LD Swain charged us $90 for a service call to fix their problematic air conditioner coil replacement which was still under warranty! We will never use them again. They installed our two HVAC systems in 2000 and have serviced them ever since. In Sept 2010, LD Swain had to do a $1,148 coil replacement on one of the units; we paid the bill promptly as usual. Nine months later, there was a problem with their installation; their worker fixed the problem right away and said that the repair was under warranty. We have since been invoiced for $90 for the service call. My husband wanted to discuss the problem with one of the owners but could not get past the woman who does the billing. She insists that the repair was under warranty but that the labor to make the service call was not. What she failed to understand is that, if they had done the coil replacement correctly to begin with, there would not have been a need for a service call! We will pay the $90 but will never use them again. more

I handle my father's affairs and have twice had to call on L.D. Swain for service. One was to repair extensive damage to the HVAC ductwork in the crawl space, caused by an intruding raccoon. The second was on Friday before the Memorial Day weekend. The company gave a quick response to a "no cool" call in unseasonably hot weather. Both situations were handled well and at reasonable cost.
