Its good food... 9/29/2011

I enjoyed my experience at Swagat. I wasn't moaning with delight while I ate but I have nothing to complain about either. The service was good and the food was hot and tasty. If you are looking for some casual dining that is tasty and affordable then this is a good place for you. more

Disappointing!!! 9/24/2011

This was an highly disappointing visit! The hostess didnt even ask if we were helped! She stood in front of us and kept counting her tips and didnt greet us! I think she was a Racist!!! She didnt even apologize properly! India's were not welcome in the Indian restaurant! It was annoying! I will never go to this place and will never recommend this place to anyone ever! I wonder how long they will be able to be in business with this kind of customer service! more

Not bad 7/18/2011

Keep in mind that Swagat's is not gourmet Indian food. Flavors are not complex. Good food, but not great. Atmosphere is pleasant. For the price, I recommend it. more

What's happened to Swagat? 4/27/2011

I have been a big fan of Swagat for several years. I am an avid consumer of the Chicken Mahkni and such. However, it had been a while since my last visit, and today I was sadly disappointed. more

God Indian Food, for Portland 12/6/2010

My guy and I have been eating here regularly--at least 3 times a month for the last 3.5years. We are vegetarians and I am also sugar free. The food is almost always good and sometimes exceptionally good. Not gourmet, but reasonably priced, good tasting food. They serve dhosas which are wheat free huge crepes and they are delicious. We get the spinach palak paneer, and the dhosa regualrly. We can count on them to be good sometimes we'll try other things like their okra curry dish and it's inconsistent. Reasonable\r price, good food and decent someetimes good service more

Best Indian Food in Portland 11/20/2010

I am of the opinion that this is the best Indian food that you can get in Portland. I have frequented this establishment for over 7 years and have never been disappointed. more

Surprisingly Fantastic! 10/14/2010

Maybe its just Indian food in general that gives people the he-be-je-bees. It certainly did me. Some friends took me when I accidentally mentioned needing to broaden my horizons. more

Great Lunch Buffet 8/19/2010

So since I moved to Portland I have only had Indian food once and it was kinda nasty, at this house turned restaurant that was later caugh on camera as having rats and roaches. GROSS! more

Decent food (but check your CC statements) 8/15/2010

We have eaten here twice...both times we were charged twice and had to have chargebacks issued. If you read Yelp reviews...you will see similiar stories more

Why you shouldnt visit this place 7/7/2010

I am sharing my experience of the first and the last visit to this restaurant. We wanted to try some Indian "authentic" food so we were going through some books on Portland and Swagat was mentioned quite many times, so we decided to go there. As we entered things looked good, the first turnoff--the waiter poured water not on the glass but on the table. Its so irritating. Then this waitress comes in. She was behaving as if she was forced to work there. She was always in a hurry to throw us out of the restaurant. She bought food, and dropped the "sambhar" on the table --second turn off. And lastly before we finished, she asked us if we wanted a box. Couldnt she wait for us to ask? Now coming to food: This place serves NO authentic food. The dosa was sad and by the way when we asked the waitress about the Hyd. Biryani she said --it was not good, many customers complain, and apparently Swagat is run by AP folks. Good to know that right? The place is no good. The Bombay Chat on the streets servces better and fresh food. more

good dinner 3/30/2010

Nice place for a indian dinner, good food choices, fresh food, great vegitarian dishes. Lovely place to take guest that are visiting, and a nice place to walk in the spring and summer. more

As Good As it Gets In Portland 12/2/2009

I'm a city where Indian is done well. Finding it in Portland is like a scavenger hunt. Don't waste time hunting, go to Swagat. The food is warm and tasty and probably the best you can find in Portland. It's not like New York City or San Fran Indian, but you'll walk away happy. Pros: Warm, cozy environment, hot food, good service more

Slightly below average 9/29/2009

This is without doubt the best Indian restaurant in Portland, OR. Thus, on a national scale, it is a little below average, say 4/10 or so. Pros: Not offensive food; recognizable as Indian cuisine Cons: below average as Indian cuisine more

Horrible food. Great Location. Someone else please take over 6/27/2009

Being from India, and having eaten at ALL the Indian places in Portland my advice is to AVOID all the SWAGATs. If you have to eat at one, try the one in Hillsboro (orenco). The food is uniformly bad, the meats a little stale, and flavor uninspiring. Pros: location Cons: Terrible food. Unprofessional. more

Way disapointed!!! 4/17/2009

Ok...being a huge Indian food fan...had to try out this spot in NW...so went in for the lunch buffet. Wow, just not good. I found the dining room to have that kind-of dirty filmy feel to it, the food was average at best, the middle aged woman that seated us behaved as if she would rather be ANYWHERE else but there. My friend suggested that we come back for dinner and try again, but truthfully I don't think I could get past the sticky dirty feeling...sorry. Pros: I'm still thinking Cons: Dirty, unfriendly, average food more

Swagat is Great! 3/9/2009

Excellent food, reasonable prices. I definitely recommend going here. Can be fairly busy on the weekends, so it is best to come early, and the parking lot is small. \r \r But, I definitely enjoy Swagat, it is a great place to get *good* Indian food in Portland.\r \r More "British" or "Formal" style food, more "Northern" India as opposed to a family cooking style, or more southern Indian style.\r \r Family style dining, and if everyone orders a dish, you'll have lots of yummy leftovers. more

good food, decent service 2/7/2009

The restaurant was not overly busy and we were seated right away. This is only the second time I've had Indian food but I think I have found a new favorite cuisine. The chicken tikka masala was scrumptous and the lamb curry (red) was great. The restaurant looks really fancy but they were seating people dressed up as well as people in jeans and t-shirts. The service was slow but maybe she had a reason? If so, she didn't say anything. Altogether I think the experience was good and the food great; I'd go again. Pros: good food, interesting decor Cons: slow service more
