i love this place 2/24/2009

i always come here in the early evening and get seated right away. the selction is great. i like the names of the different dishes. my favorite to eat is the caterpillar roll and the scallop volcano. I polish it all off with an Asahi and i get a contented full stomach sushi high for the next 3 hours. Pros: good service, friendly staff, good sushi selection Cons: slightly cramped, but if you can get a booth its fine. wish they were open earlier. more

Surprisingly fine atmosphere and incredible yummy sushi! 1/9/2009

We were seated immediately and the staff were all smiles and help. The sushi options are vast and funny. Never thought I'd love warm, tempura sushi...BUT I DID! Large portions with very reasonable prices. I'm worried about posting this cause I don't want to ruin a good thing, but we'll definitely be back over and over again. :)\r cheers! Pros: inventive menu Cons: nothing more

Your new favorite. 4/14/2008

Seems like everyone has their favorite sushi joint, and everyone always insists theirs is the best. Well, ill tell you, nothing even remotely compares to Sushi Mania. Nothing. Mio Sushi, sorry not even close. Yuki's, nope no way. Masu..hah! Saburo's , nope sorry, try again. Hama, no mama. Yoko's, nope-o's.\r \r Forget the cheesy name, its by far the best sushi youll ever put in your mouth. Pros: Best Sushi in Town Cons: The space is a little small more

Great Food, Slow Service 4/10/2008

My mom and I decided to try this place because we love sushi and I read about it on-line. There was plenty of parking on the street and we were seated promptly. There were about 3-4 other tables already seated when we got there. We waited at least 15 minutes for the waitress to come take are order and it seemed strange because there didn't really seem like there was anything else for the waitress to be doing. The food also took awhile to come out and I think we were the only ones waiting for our food. When we got the food it was very impressive. I ordered the Chirashi and my mom ordered the Sashimi Salad. Both were large sized and very well presented. The fish was extremely fresh and the slices were hearty. The salad dressing was also very good and flavorful. We will definitely go back because the food was so good but it would be nice if the service improved. Pros: Great Food, Easy Parking Cons: Slow Service more

RED DRAGON 3/14/2008

Yummy, yummy in my tummy!!! I went to Sushi Mania last night and had an amazing roll called the red dragon, ibichi and the las Veags roll. Oh my gosh they were all amazing! There was a great and creative selection...different than other sushi places. I thought the wait staff was very layed back, but courteous and very helpful-great service! Some may think the outside is plain, but the interior is very cozy and loved the lights! All in all- will definately be back... more

Amazing Sushi 3/4/2008

We thought we'd try this place, after an early movie at the Regal Lloyd. Despite the latest review , I was happily surprised. This is a cosy little restaurant with amazingly delish sushi. Since we were the only ones there near closing time, no way to assess the service. The guy who waited on us was prompt and attentive, our food arrived promptly in any case. I wasn't driven over the top by the Pink Lady, perhaps not to my taste, but absolutely adored every other selection we chose. Fresh, distinctive, and totally worth returning. Both my son and I used the restrooms and found them to be clean and tidy, just to give a different report than a previous diner. I'll be coming back there, and bringing friends. Pros: Quality of food Cons: Street parking only more

the sushi was great... everything else... not so much. 12/9/2007

We were looking for a new sushi place to try out, and after citysearching sushi mania, we decided to try it just because they had a cupon and reviews said even though the outside was not so pretty, the sushi was good. Well.. we drove up to what looked like it could be a dirty strip club, and with the name sushi mania..we were a little skeptical. the place is small, and decently deccorated. when we walked in i had to ask someone where we could sit because no one really acknowledged us. when we looked at the menu they had a good selection of sushi and things, but the waitress was a bit unklowledgable about the drinks and what they did and did now have in stock. We ordered about 30 pieces of sushi between two of us, miso soup and some edamame... it was SO GOOD. if you have been to i love sushi.. it was of that quality. it was dilectable. what we didn;t like was that the waitress wans't too helpful and she kind of just left us to ourselves which was nice, but it would be great if she knew about what she was serving. the bathrooms are kind of gross... they were playing old school britney spears and who let the dogs out ... ?? wtf? and they had WWF on the TV.... why even have a tv? and maybe some better music.. so i guess if you don't care about your surroundings, and having a GREAT experience.. if you just are in it for the sushi and not the service... this is a good place to go. the sushi was great.. everything else... not so much. Pros: sushi, speed of food delivery Cons: service, bathrooms, appearance more

THE BEST SUSHI I EVER ATE 10/6/2007

My boyfriend and I went to ""sushi mania"" yesterday and thought it was the best sushi we ever ate! At first, we were a little scared because the front looks so ugly and the name ""sushi mania"" made us think sushi might be served on a conveyor belt, but when we took a bite of the sushi, we were in heaven. The Ichi, rainbow roll, spider roll and wild sockeye salmon were to die for. Normally I don't eat raw fish because I had it once at mio sushi and the fish tasted ""fishy"" like it wasn't fresh. But when I bit into the rainbow roll all I could think of was ""WOW!!"" Great place to eat because there is no wait. I am going there again for sure Pros: Great sushi Cons: the front entrance, parking is a little odd more

OMG. AMAZING!!! 4/5/2007

You know how a lot of places on citysearch get all these great reviews and you go try them out and they end up being not-so-great? This is not one of those places! Sushimania has, by far, the BEST SUSHI I have had in Portland. And trust me, I am a sushi fanatic. I can't stop, it's an addiction. I go to this place almost everyday. GO NOW. GO TO SUSHIMANIA!! Pros: delicious, great prices! more

Best Sushi in Town! 3/17/2007

I am a sushi freak, I've been to every place in town and this is by far the best! The rolls are fabulous, even vegetarians will find lots to choose from. Their cucumber sunomono is the best I've ever had. Part of me doesn't want the secret to be let out about how good this place is, and another part of me wants everybody to know so they'll succeed. The service is good and the prices are reasonable. The ambiance isn't great but it's really about the food here. If you want the best fish in town, it's here! Pros: The food and the prices! Cons: closed on sundays more

Amazing sushi 11/21/2006

What's in a name?! This place has awesome sushi (try their BBQ eel), great service, and I've never had to wait for a table. In the land of sushi, this place is top of the line at a reasonable price. Pros: good food! more

Awful front and logo but great and suprising sushi 11/10/2006

If somebody hadn't told me that places has a good sushi , I never would have gone there by myself, but somebody did, my japanese quiroprator, And She was totally right. The sushy and the rest the food is good and you can find weird but delicious sushy like the godzilla... Pros: Nobody knows this places so you don't have to wait for a table Cons: Name, front and logo more

Great sushi for lunch! 5/14/2006

Like the other reviews, am not crazy about the name and didn't realize it had other names as well. I just called it ""blowfish"" since that's the pictures on the glass. Anyway, I digress. I really like this place, it's clean, fast and friendly. The unique offerings of sushi is impressive. The sushi chef is very accomodating to any new requests (a few from me..). It's basically good, fresh fish and friendly service. Pros: fresh, variety, friendly more

BEST SUSHI EVER 4/6/2006

i guarantee u wont find another sushi place on the west coast like this. maybe mroe expensive and authentic. but this is some inovative chow more

Unique Sushi Experience 1/22/2006

Although the name has changed repeatedly (blowfish, pufferfish, and now the horrible name: ""Sushi Mania""), the menu and service have remained constant. And that is fresh and tasty. Sushi Mania has made me into an adventurous sushi eater, as everything is exceptional. The blow-blow (a tomato and tuna mix poured over a CA roll) and the sexy or pink lady (using cucumber rather than seaweed to make the roll, exceptional!) are different than anything i'd had before, and i am hooked. They also have Hot rolls (lobster or scallops over a roll) that are very rich and delicious, but more expensive. Pros: not crowded, good parking, fast service Cons: atmosphere, bad screened deck more

I'm a Sushi Mania-c 12/1/2005

Despite multiple name changes (I understand Julian Lennon's lawyers forced them to give up the name Pufferfish), this place continues to please me and my lady. Last time we went, they served us the best unagi and smoked salmon nigiri we've ever eaten. We have a few other favored sushi places around town, but we go out of our way to go back to Sushi Mania. Traditionalists may not appreciate some of the fusion ideas, but really, give it a try. Try out the garlic-seared tuna roll. It's awesome. Also, they have a rare full bar at this place, though sushi and cocktails don't always make the best combo. Pros: not busy, great sushi, service, liquor! Cons: name changes, not traditional, decor's a bit hokey more

Good value 10/31/2005

this low-key neighborhood sushi spot is fast and reasonably priced. The special rolls, called ""Sexy Roll"" and ""Pink Lady Roll"" are excellent. The sushi is always fresh. Stay away from the bar drinks though, stick to sake or beer. Interior is pretty generic, not a great date spot or anything, but I love coming here for a lunch meeting or takeaway. The sushi also beats Yuki, Koji Osakaya, Sushi Cafe K, and Sushi Land, all in the neighborhood, for freshness and value. more

Very creative! 2/25/2005

My husband found this restaurant a few weeks ago. I had doubt about the flavor looking outside of the building, but I was wrong. Every dishes we ordered were very creative, beautiful and flavorful. Also, the price was cheaper than we thought. However, their services were little slow and unfriendly. We will visit the restaurant again soon. Pros: cheap price, creative dishes, good location Cons: slow services, unfriendly more
