Very medicore and very pricey 2/15/2008

My wife is Japanese and we heard great things about Yotsuya but we both agreed that it was very dissapointing. The sushi portions are about 1/3 the size of our preferred restaurant. We were told that in order to sit at the Sushi bar there was a minimum of $50 per person, so we sat at a table and then we were told that we had to order 4 sushi orders per person. That seemed fine because we usually order much more than that but to be told we had to just felt wrong. Then our order came and the sushi was all rice and wasabi. So we ate our 16 pieces of rice for lunch and I left hungry. It was the worst $52 lunch (with no drinks) I've ever had. I liked the authentic Japanese ambience except there was no music and they have a huge big screen tv. Even our japanese market in West LA has better sushi than this place. Perhaps if we were prepared to spend $100 + for lunch and sat at the sushi bar we would have had a different experience but I doubt it. Pros: Nice simple Japanese interior Cons: Big screen TV, unbelievably small portions and high prices and fish was not freshest more

Best sushi ever! Seriously 11/24/2007

I find my self carving the sushi from Yotsuya. I moved out of the state and I find myself trying to find excuses to go back just to eat here! The rice is slightly sweet and warm, which for some reason no one else does. But this place isn't for sushi beginners they don't serve spicy tuna or California rolls. Only authentic Japanese sushi! Just sit down and go for the chefs choice(you can tell him if there are certain types of fish you don't like, but try to be open!) He serves only what is fresh that day! Pros: Freshest, tastiest sushi EVER! Cons: can be expensive, in the valley more

best sushi ever 7/23/2006

Bar none - the BEST sushi i've ever had! Way better than Sushi Sasabune and Sushi Nozawa. The fish melts in your mouth. Unbelievable. The owner is not pretentious. He's soo nice and welcoming. Unlike any of those lame sushi restaurants that think that they're all that. You must try this place. I drive over an hour + to come eat here. Absolutely fabulous! Pros: Unfreakinbelievable sushi; fresh and quality Cons: Needs more than one location more

Master Masa... Yes, master! 7/23/2006

Indeed, Masa-san is a master in the art of sushi making. Don't really trust sushi chefs that don't pick their own fish, not a problem with Masa. His sushi rice, which is what makes his sushi tasted so special, was outstanding, on par with Nozawa's and second only to Mori sushi. This is an excellent sushi restaurant. Pros: Excellent sushi; opens on Saturday!!! Cons: None. more

The BEST SUSHI and SUSHI CHEF'S in L.A.!!! 5/14/2006

My husband and I were loyals of Sasabune, until we experienced Masa's sushi mastery!! Masa, the owner and head sushi chef, is so very nice and has offerings of different types of sushi I've only had the pleasure of experiencing at his place. Each time we go ( and we go ALOT) he surprises us with something new and different. Peter, the other chef, is also just as friendly and helps make the whole experience such a delight! You must sit at the bar and order the ""chef special"" and trust the professor! Pros: Fresh fish, Friendly service, DELICIOUS!! Cons: a bit pricey, small parking lot more

Fresh and Authentic 2/15/2006

My wife and I have been every week for the last 4 weeks. The only reason our streak has to end is that Masa has to go back to Japan for a family matter. This is our new favorite spot since moving to the Valley and having to break away from our previous favorite Sasabune. Pros: Great Fesh Sushi, Extremely Friendly, Not a trendy spot Cons: Nothing! more

Real Sushi 10/11/2005

Sushi Yotsuya is my absolute favorite restaurant to go to. Masa the owner and head chef brings tradtional sushi back to the home of the awfull California roll. Don't expect to see trendy new age recipies here. If you are looking for the great traditional sushi you have to go to Sushi Yotsuya. Trust me Pros: Freshness, Great service, Healthy more
