I had high expectations after reading the reviews on this site, but I must say I was sorely disappointed. I arrived prior to the other person in my party and was told that I could...

THE BEST SUSHI 9/13/2004

I just moved to Austin a few weeks ago and wanted a good reasonably priced sushi place...this is it! the staff was so welcoming and the food was great! i highly recommend the california roll(masago), kani, and edemame!!!!!! so good i was done with the edamame before i got home! my only complain would be that there was a light fishy smell when you walk in , but you get past that! Pros: Great Staff, Wonderful Food, Nice Location more

best sushi in town 8/30/2004

Two criteria must be met to prepare perfect sushi: 1) ultra fresh fish, and 2) perfect rice In 90% of the Austin sushi restaurants I have visited, the quality of fish was fresh and comparable. However, only one had the perfect combination of rice wine and rice vinegar in the sushi rice. There is no vinegar flavor, nor is there a smell to the sushi rice that taints the natural flavor of the fish. The background music (singer/standard) is nice, but not too loud, and the restaurant is astheticly pleasing, both in atmosphere and in food presentation. I highly recommend this restaurant for both those seeking to dine in or carry out. Pros: exellent quality fish, great presentation, clean/astheticly nice Cons: , no reservations more

Terrible Service on Mother's Day Lunch 5/26/2004

I went to Sushi Sake on Mother's Day around 3pm with a friend. It was not busy at all. After being seated, we watched as 3 different waiters walked past us. Not a single waiter came by to greet us. We sat in disbelief for 17 minutes. When we realized that people that got sat after us got served, we got up and left. As we were leaving, we told the hostess that we never got served. She seemed to not care at all. We decided to complain to the management and call. The ""manager"" that spoke to us didn't seem to care that we didn't even have a waiter come up to us. I will NEVER go back again. Pros: cheap more

Sakura Boy's Rating... i suppose... 1/23/2003

I really liked Sushi Sake. I'm planing on going back for my birthday. I suppose their /feature/ food would be sushi, bu thier miso soup and mixed tempura are also very good. I really enjoyed the pickles that came with the Binto(?) box lunch special. I'm underaged, so i'm not sure how good their sake is, but the ambiance and food i've experienced there had been pleasant. I'm more of ther hermit/quite type myself, so the quiet, almost romantic feel of the place was very nice. ~The Sakura Boy Pros: Portions, 'Feel', Friendly Waiters Cons: Speed of service more

Oh, yeah! 1/5/2003

Yessiree! This is a really great restaurant. Granted, it doesn't match the sushi in Osaka and Kyoto, but it is quite reminiscent. Great ambience, great service, GREAT sushi. It's simply as good as you are likely to get in Austin. Stay away from UMI. Wow, is it the antithesis of Sushi Sake...Oh, and while at Sushi Sake, be sure to try the Asahi Super Dry. Simply the best blonde beer on the planet! The Tiger Eye is fabulous, and the house dressing (creamy ginger) is TOP notch! Pros: Food!, Asahi Super Dry!, Service! Cons: Not close to my house more

Best if sit at the bar 11/19/2002

My boyfriend and I go to Sushi Sake almost once a week. Everybody that works there befriend us. For better sushi, keep this few tips in mind: 1. Fresh Fishes get delivered every Tue and Thur. Thur selection is usually better. 2. Basic rolls like California roll are not made by Sushi Chefs. They are either pre-made or by people from the kitchen. 3. Most of the sushi chefs are not well trained. I can only think of 5 that can pass my standard. They usually work Thr, Fri, and Sat. 4. Sushi Bar is your best bet. Hope you can enjoy Sushi Sake! more

Best Sushi Bar in Town 11/13/2002

The best sushi in Austin, hands down. The always have awesome specials and the guys working the sushi bar are great. Talk with them and ask for their recommendations. They always make great recommendations. Be sure and ask about whats not on the menu. Pros: Great Sushi, Awesome Service Cons: Expensive more

Yummm! 10/28/2002

Great sushi! Very reasonable prices and lots of choices on the menu for non-sushi eaters. more

Despite service, good sushi 8/22/2002

While the service is hit or miss, Sushi Sake seems to have pretty good sushi at a reasonable price. The wait is usually not too long and the bar area (if you do have to wait) is nice. The place is in a strip mall which can seem a turn off but the decor once you get inside is really swank. I would recommend to someone who is looking for a really nice sushi meal but doesn't want to pay $70 per person. Pros: ambience, decor, food Cons: service more

Good quality fish, good service 5/25/2002

I live and work near Sushi Sake and eat there 2-3 times a week. I pretty much restrict myself to sushi, so I can't comment on their other dishes, but the sushi is top notch. I've eaten at every sushi place in Austin, and Sushi Sake has the tenderest, freshest fish around. The food quality is also very consistent. The wait staff is nice and efficient. The only thing I think could improve is the variety in their menu. They don't have quite as much variety in rolls as I've seen elsewhere. Pros: fresh, tender fish, good service Cons: lacks roll variety more
