Take the plunge! 2/19/2003

Best sushi in LA. Sit at the bar and eat whatever is served. You have no choice. But don't worry it is all worth the plunge. Sometimes referred by others as the ""Sushi Nazi"". Pros: fresh fish Cons: seating is limited more

best ever 2/1/2003

Clearly the best sushi ever put into my mouth. Although the slightly uncomfortable environment is a bit of a novelty and makes for a good story, it's not a full dining experience because of it. If this was just upgraded to the level of comfort sushi sasabune has I'd be there all the time. more

The best 1/12/2003

Absolutely amazing - the freshest fish served cold on warm rice - the way it should be more

the best sushi place so far 1/3/2003

The sushi melts in your mouth. I've been to other overly priced sushi bar and liked being there, but this one is the best. I took my Japanese mom-in-law and she confirmed that this is the best place she's been in LA. The interior is not that fancy, but who cares when you can eat the best? more

Nozawa is very very fresh sushi and very good service.!!!! If you would like to try traditional japanese sushi, I recommend here. more

Over rated 11/9/2002

I found Sushi Nozawa to be over-rated and pricey to boot though the food is good. There are better (and less expensive) sushi restaurants in the valley such as Something Fishy, Rickshaw, or even Light and Healthy. Skip the hype, go for the real deal elsewhere. more

Quality Plus! 11/3/2002

Sushi Nozawa is the very best quality sushi I have ever eaten. There are no crazy rolls or fried food here, just good top notch fish. Mr. Nozawa and his wife work hard on maintaining high standards and making sure that guests have an opportunity to experience fresh fish at it's peak. I highly recommend Sushi Nozawa! more

Trust Me 11/1/2002

Trust the Trust Me Special but only go if you like sushi (California Rolls don't count) more

Trust me 9/19/2002

The best sushi I've ever eaten was at Sushi Nozawa. There is no place better for fresh and beautifuly prepared sushi. You have to order the trust me. more

Good Food, No Ambience, Expensive 9/15/2002

The food was excellent but the harsh glare of the ZERO-AMBIENCE fluorescent lights cheapened the experience. The bill for two came to $86. For a 40-minute (or less) dining outing in the depressing little joint that is Sushi Nozawa, it just wasn't worth it. I would have rated this place a 9 if the bill had been under $50. Service was nothing to write home about. more

Sushi sensi - tional! 8/12/2002

I don't need many words to expalin that Nozawa Son is a true master who has taught half the sushi chefs in southern California. Couple that with the freshest hand pick fish and ""TODAY IS SPECIAL"" ""TRUST ME!"" Pros: FRESH, TRADITIONAL, MASTERFUL Cons: PARKING, SPACE, CHOICE more

Hardcore Sushi 8/5/2002

After reading all the hype from numerous publications, I decided to try this place. We ordered the omakase (chef's choice) and was extremely impressed. The fish was fresh which mixed perfectly with the warm rice. However, the service was rushed and we felt the pressure to eat up and leave. Nonetheless this is a place worth going back for some good straight up no non-sense sushi. I'd recommend Sushi Sasabune in West LA over Sushi Nozawa because Sushi Nozawa serves two pieces of the same sushi while sasabune serves only one. Thus, you'll get more variety from Sushi Sasabune. Pros: Sushi Cons: Service more

Done--now get out 7/24/2002

Although the service is rude and abusive, the sushi is spectacular. you must try the tuna sashi. Make it easy and order the chefs specials, you cant go wrong. Pros: food Cons: service, decor, location more

sushi straight up 7/23/2002

They don't take reservations and there is no valet parking. The decor and location capture the ambiance of a low rent diner. The service is direct, if not spartan. There is, in other words, nothing to distract from the meal at hand. Perfect slices of raw fish that melt on contact. Warm rice that barely hangs together. This is the finest sushi in LA. more

BEST FISH IN TOWN!!! 7/11/2002

Sushi Nozawa is so good it will evoke tears of joy!!! Nothing fancy, just the best quality and freshest fish you will ever eat!!! I LOVE sushi and have tried many of the good sushi restaurants in southern california and by far Sushi Nozawa is my favorite. If you are a TRUE connoisseur of fish this is the place for you!!! Pros: best quality fish Cons: minimal parking, small dining room more

BEST SASHIMI!!! 6/27/2002

Looks just like any other small inornate sushi joint on sushi row. That is until you put the piece of sashimi in your mouth. Then you really understand the beauty of SUSHI! There's no menu...only a small old sushi chef behind the counter w/a sign next to him saying, ""Trust me."" Trust me...you'll become a regular! more

Rude 5/27/2002

Loved the sushi, but, boy, are those waiters rude. If they don't know you, they treat you like you're a total idiot. To bad they don't have a to-go window, then you'd never have to deal with the servers, but you could still eat the yummy fishy. Pros: crab rolls Cons: crabby waiters more
