Sushi Kushi Toyo

I laugh when the ""city folks"" review the suburban restaurants and say things like more creativity required. I've been eating at SKT for 18 years and remember when it had 5 tables and a small sushi bar. This authentic Japanese food here folks. If in question order the special without looking at the menu and you will find true Japanese food. I've had sushi all over the world including Japan and this place offers the freshest sushi in Chicago area. No you are not going to find volcano type rolls here. But that is why I like it. I can go to Wildfish or Sushi Nest for more imagination if needed. But when I want fresh Chirashi or whole fried Makerel I go to SKT. this is further reinforced by all the Japanese businessmen you will find at lunchtime here from the Japanese owned companies in the area. Order what they order (the daily special) and find out what true Japanesefood is all about. more

For those that know and truly understand what good Sushi is, Sushi Kushi is perhaps the single best place to have sushi in the Northern Suburbs. This isn't the place that tries to ""trick"" you with fancy atmosphere, and gimmick rolls - this is true Japanese eating. Try to go when its not so busy for the best taste and service. When up north not many choices for sushi stand out. This establishment will not stand out for a return visist. Short pours on cocktails, poor service at the bar and rolls that should have never been rolled. If you feel like sushi and seafood make the drive to Wheeling for great selections. more

Sushi Kushi has been one of my favorite restaurants since it was introduced to me a few years ago. It has now just expanded for the second time, and beautifully! The atmosphere has completely changed, and it now has more of a downtown, trendy sushi bar feel. It also has much more seating available but maintains its small feel. The food is just as excellent, but unfortuantely along with their most recent remodeling came a price hike. I would still recommend this restaurant to anyone- I drive up there from Park Ridge and it's worth the trip! Pros: wonderful service, excellent menu Cons: limited seating more

We just moved to LF from City and tried it - Good for the suburbs (less competition must mean you don't have to try as hard), but certainly not the best around. The atmosphere needs a boost...paper pictures taped to the wall would not cut it downtown. The music selection also needs help. The sushi was fresh, but there was not enough variety on the menu.
