Recommend Sushi & Kushi Imai 7/10/2010

If you are in the area on a saturday I would recommend IMAI. $12 per person brunch buffet with a large choice of dishes and sushis to choose from: miso soup, salad, termpura, fried chicken, beef teriyaki, seafood, sushi rolls, chow mein, fried rice, salmon/albacore/tuna sushis, soft shell crabs, fruits and cakes... Pros: Brunch buffet more

Imai 3/23/2010

I usually order the salmon sashimi bowl or the spicy tuna lunch bowl. Both orders are delicious and the spicy tuna has a very generous serving! The only problem I have with this place is that during lunch time, they have only 3 waiters waiting on the entire restaurant, including any to-go orders and busing the tables as well. Pros: Great Sushi Cons: Terrible lunch time service more

Fantastic sushi as well as hot dishes 11/27/2009

Every dish we had was excellent, and the servings were very generous! It has now conquered the top spot on my list of sushi bars! Pros: Superb food for a good price Cons: None that I can think of more

Good to the last bite 7/25/2009

When Strip Malls Give birth to Amazing Sushi 5/11/2009

I shall open by saying two simple words...SEA BASS. One of the only places in Los Angeles that serves sea bass sushi prepares it to such perfection that you need not eat anything else. Topped with citrus yuzu paste, sea salt, and drizzled with basil olive oil, this sea bass is so perfect that if you ever tried to drown it in soy sauce, I will personally hunt you down and stab you in the throat with the very chopsticks you attempted to use in your crime against flavor. However, Sushi & Kushi Imai offers so much more than the angelic sea bass. Most if not all of its fish are the freshest in town, when sock-eye salmon is in season kiss your social life goodbye. If you are looking for something that contains an annoying pun in the name and is smothered in some sticky sauce, deep-fried, and contains cheese that is named after a city, don't go to Sushi & Kushi Imai. The Friendly sushi chefs take the art of sushi seriously; the food is simple yet unforgettable. Stick to the Nigiri sushi and this will be your favorite sushi spot, hands down. Although I don't stray too far away from the fresh seasonal catch, I do love the kushi as well. After Googling what was believed to be a muppet, the little BBQ skewers of meats, fish, and veggies provide a great spread for date night sharing. Anything you eat on a stick is better. Everyone knows that. The winners of the menu are the Japanese peppers, Shitake mushrooms, chicken meatballs, and bacon-wrapped asparagus. Remember when I said everything on a stick tastes better, well I lied. Everything on a stick wrapped in bacon is better than that. Pros: Very fresh Nigiri Sushi, Kushi, extremely friendly service Cons: slightly on the pricey side, rolls not stellar more

Ummm Hmmm 3/25/2009

Sushi in Beverly Hills...yeah just can't beat it...unless you're in Hollywood of course, then Club Sushi is the best place. more

My favorite sushi (and sushi chef) in LA! 3/31/2008

When it comes to sushi, I am always looking for the best in LA. My sister works right near IMAI and was constantly raving about it so finally I came to meet her for lunch a a few weeks ago. The deal is absolutely incredible. The chirashi bowl is bountiful and fresh as can be, and for only $11.80 this is the steal of the century. The yellowtail is delicate, the albacore melts in your mouth. The spicy scallop with masago is out of this world and the ahi is served specs of gold (literally). What compliments the great sushi is the even better sushi chef, Takashi, who ensures that every dining experience we have is well worth it. I drive from downtown LA just to go to lunch here and my coworkers now agree it is well worth sitting in traffic for. more

Good Happy Hour, Good Sushi, and Great Ambiance 2/28/2008

I love trying places that have happy hours with food specials. So, my girlfriends and I went to Sushi and Kushi for their happy hour on a Thursday night. The sushi specials only include three rolls during happy hour (crab and avocado, salmon and avocado, and spicy tuna), but the regular menu is great. We ended up mostly ordering from the regular menu and then having some happy hour priced martinis. Overall, we were disappointed with the happy hour sushi options, but enjoyed the regular sushi. It was moderately priced. The ambiance and the martinis were great though! And service was great too! Pros: Parking available in the lot!! Decent happy hour. more

Love it 11/7/2007

I rarely write reviews but this place deserves it! Come there for lunch for the BEST sashimi in town!!! Trust me you get a huge plate of 5 different kinds of fishes, all fresh and thick sliced, salad, miso soup and rice for $11.80. Where else can you get that? My bf and I love this place and the fish is always superb! Pros: High grade shushi fish more

Good God, that's good sushi! 7/9/2007

I have never written a review here. In fact, I hate writing reviews. But after having gone to Sushi/Kushi IMAI about 15 times in the last 2 months, I figured I might as well throw in my two cents for all of those who are on the fence. Pros: Great food, fantastic prices and the spicy tuna roll of the Gods Cons: Atmosphere is bland and the service could use a major overhaul more

Overrated - Unless You're a Local? 4/12/2007

We are Sushi Fanatics from the Seattle area. I looked up Zagat and CitySearch ratings for all Sushi within 5 miles of where we were staying (center of Hollywood). Pros: Great selection and quality. Cons: Poor Value Overall. Happy Hour Menu VERY Limited. more

west-side gem, my favorite sushi place in Los Angeles 4/11/2007

This is my first review. That said, I rarely like a restaurant enough to write about it online. But Sushi and Kushi Imai, where I have gone numerous times in the past few years, is hands down my favorite. The fish is always of exceptional freshness and quality and the barbequed meats are tender and perfectly marinated. Pros: ultra-fresh fish, great romantic atmosphere, artful chefs Cons: the oil display in the front of the restaurant: tacky... more

Fantastic Happy Hour! 11/20/2006

Even though there's limited spaces at the tiny bar, the deals for happy hour are fantastic. $3.50 large sapporos and great deals on sushi. Lacks a little on atmosphere though. more

great happy hour 11/13/2006

Great happy hour with Saketini's Shochu cocktails - amazing value for the great sashimi we had. Excellent customer service. Can't beat a happy hour every day! more

great customer service and delicious food! 11/1/2006

I just had dinner here tonight with my mom and all the dishes we ordered were excellent. We sat at the sushi bar, and overall we really had a great night. The waitresses were extremely attentive, frequently filling our water glasses and removing our finished plates. The sushi chefs were so kind, polite and quick to create our delicious mouth-watering morsels of fresh, high-quality fish. Parking was no problem, as there were plenty of free and available spots in the lot. I can't wait to return to SUSHI AND KUSHI IMAI!! more

Great Quality Sushi 6/16/2006

While the fare doesn't break new ground as far as sushi is concerned (not that it needs to), the fish is always first-rate, and the ""kushi"" skewers of meat, fish, and vegetables round out the meal nicely. You cant go wrong with the Sushi and Kushi Dinner Combination. The crowd is pleasantly unpretentious, the service is attentive and friendly, and the Tokyo-modern decor makes for a cool, comfortable atmosphere. There's usually not a wait, but the secret seems to be slowly getting out... more

Keepin it Kushi 6/14/2006

We randomly came upon Sushi Kushi one night (Kushi means ""happiness"" in Hindi so we figured it had to be good), and have been going back ever since! This is definitely the best sushi for the most reasonable price in the neighborhood. Our favorite is the Cruch Roll Spicy Tuna. The service is usually pretty good, and you don't have to deal with reservations or long waits. more
