Not All That, A Big Let-Down 6/25/2011

I kept hearing from my friends that this was the place to to go since I was the the sushi lover of the group. And every time my mom would drive by the place she would tell me how much her co workers would rave about it. so we stopped by there to have an early dinner. The service was actually pretty good. But let me tell you, the miso soup was EXTREMELY salty to the point where neither of us could bare to finish it. Also the futomaki wasn't all that. My mom complain that the high light of her meal was the alcohol - a sake. I was tempted to call The Orient and place an order that I could pick up on the way home to actually satiate our QUALITY sushi craving. I was not impressed. more

TERRIBLE SERVICE. Very disappointed. 2/14/2008

I was VERY excited about trying this restaurant out because I heard from everyone that they have the best sushi, even if its most expensive. I went there on Valentine's day with a reservation and the hostess was seating walk-ins before the reserved people because she said she was trying to be ""fair"". What is the point of getting a reservation!? We were seated after 30 minutes of being cramped in the waiting area and the hostess just threw the menus on the table and left, not welcoming us or saying anything at all. People were seated next to us about 5 minutes afterwards and they were served and left before our food even came. Noone asked if we wanted drinks or to take our order and we ordered 2 special rolls, 1 eel roll, and fried shu mai for an appetizer and it took them an hour and a half to bring us the sushi. We got the shu mai about 40 minutes in and it was alright but nothing to phone home about. When the sushi came, the waitress kept apologizing and gave up one more small plate with 2 peices of sushi on it that we didn't order, so we figured that one was on the house since the sushi took so long. Apparently not! The bill came and it happend to be OTORO(the most expensive tuna belly sushi) and it was $15 for those two small peices that we didn't even order! We told her we didn't order that one and she insisted that we had a conversation asking for regular otoro and that she told us they only had the expensive one and that we said ok we want to try it, but that conversation NEVER happened! We didn't ask about anything we just have her the slip with our order on it! The manager said since we ate it we have to pay, but we thought it was on the house because of the slowness! And the sushi we did get was okay at best. The eel was undercooked and had bones all over it! I picked out at least 7 bones from the 3 single rolls I ate! The Crunchy Salmon roll was good but it didn't taste nearly as good as it would if we would've had better service! I AM NEVER GOING BACK! Pros: Some sushi was alright, but not the best. Cons: BAD SERVICE, EXPENSIVE more

Quality and service are not what they used to be and prices have gone up! 8/2/2007

I have been a regular at this restaurant since my move to baltimore 2 years ago. It was the best place to get sushi and service despite the young college crowd. \r \r However, after a few recent experiences I am no longer going to be a customer. Tfe fish is fresh and I have never gotten ill. BUT the more creative rolls are $11-13 for 6 pieces. Recently, the prices for the same food I have been having has risen $3-4 per roll without better quality/quantity of food. Also, the service was so poor it was hard to even place and order. Our order came in phases with one roll presented to us30 minutes after we finished eating. We wanted to cancel the order but we were charged anyways...I do not recommend this place anymore. I am on the lookout for a new favorite. Pros: decent sushi. can always find parking Cons: Prices were raised too high for ok quality sushi. Service is horrible. more

Excellent Choices 3/21/2007

I only began eating sushi a few years ago... for a long time I wouldn't go anywhere besides Sushi Sono in Columbia (which I also highly reccomend) because I was afraid that I could never find sushi that good anywhere else. Sushi Hana proved me wrong. though the space is somewhat cramped and its not the cleanest place, the sushi was absolutely amazing. There are dozens of choices of sushi rolls I had never seen before.. The rolls are large, very filling and extremely tasty... the only drawback was the service, it is a little slow.... but hey, who doesnt want to sit and enjoy the company of friends while eating some of the best sushi around?? Pros: Number of choices of food Cons: slow service more

No words could describe how terrible the services are 8/31/2006

This restaurant's dirtiness could only be surpassed by its terrible service signified by the rudeness and ignorance of the servers. The place is first of all too dark to see a thing sometimes which was done on purpose in order to camoflauge the dirtiness on the ground and the various miscellaneous objects that could end up on ur food. The new male servers just don't cut it either, especially one; he was the worst server I have met by far; he literally walked by me with0out aknowledging my presence when I asked him for a glass of wine. They would just literally dump the tray of food on ur table and say enjoy without asking if everything was ok or if we needed anything else. I understand that they just care about the amount of tip but their means definitely do not justifed the ends of their tips. I would not go back even if Jigsaw himself forced me to choose btween life or to go back to that restaurant. Cons: Enough said more

best sushi ever! 8/17/2006

this place is sooooooo addicting!!! Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yummy!!!!!!!!! Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cool!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: BOTH THUMBS UP! Cons: UP, UP, UP! more

Best sushi that I'm aware of, comfortable setting 8/16/2006

I have yet to find a place around here that comes close to the quality and quantity of the sushi. Their rolls are larger than most places and equally or more tasty. I will not go anywhere else anymore if I'm within 20 minutes or so because I have never been disappointed! Matsuri in Federal Hill is also pretty good, but not quite as clean and the rolls are significantly smaller. Pros: Great food, clean and calm atmosphere (easy to carry on a conversation), not crazy trendy like some sushi places tend to be Cons: other than spending too much money when I go (which is my fault) it's perfect. It's still a good value! more

Wonderful! 4/13/2006

I found this place by chance, while walking around Towson. It turned out to be some of the best sushi I've had in a very long time. I saw some reviews here saying the ambience was lacking, and I disagree. It's simply decorated, but very tastefully, and the back room was quiet and comfortable. As for seleciton, well, the sushi menu was overwhelming with choices - the list of rolls is lengthy, and the rolls are unique and creative. The appetizer selection was also very complete. The Ika Tobiko Ae was excellent as an appetizer, and the portion was generous. The rolls themselves lived up to billing in the menu, they were all very tasty and well-assembled. The prices were very reasonable, especially with respect to the size and contents of the rolls. Long story short, this is an excellent sushi restaurant! Pros: Good Value, Creative sushi menu, Food cant be beat! Cons: I live in NC, and it's in MD., Long ride for sushi. more

Outstanding Sushi - Great Variety & Quality 3/23/2006

What Sushi Hana lacks in ambience it makes up for in its sushi. Massive rolls beautifully presented and the nigri cuts are huge and wonderful, too: totally fresh and full of flavor. We had: salmon, eel & yellowtail, and for rolls we had the Beauty Alaska, Crunchy Spicy Tuna and Maryland Rolls. Want something but don't see it on the menu? Just write it on the back of the order form! Service was good but not great, and prices were more than reasonable. Pros: Reasonably priced, outstanding sushi Cons: lacks ambience more

You Can't Go Wrong!! 5/18/2005

There is no way that Shogun or Kawasaki is even in the same class!!! That's right! I said it!! Sushi Hana is very clean, fresh, the atmosphere is nice, the service is great the selection is outstanding and the sushi....fresh, fat ( I said that too! ) and wonderful tasting! I have tried twelve of the top rated on this list and Sushi Hana IS THE BEST!!!!!! more

SUSHI AND ROLLS! 7/26/2003

As a newcomer to Baltimore from NYC, I was really impressed with the quality of sushi here! The variety of rolls are DELISH and the portions ""just enough"". I would stick with the sushi and rolls and stay away from the mediocre entrees. more

best sushi around by far! 8/19/2002

I don't know how anyone could rate Shogun or Kawasaki over Sushi Hana! The Hana's fish is so tasty, and the selection is much better, the pieces are larger and fatter. Yes, that is right, I said fatter... we are talking about Sushi... more
