Disgusting! I have had sushi all around 2/4/2012

Disgusting! I have had sushi all around Portland/Beaverton/Tigard and this is by far the WORST. Sushi was not fresh, tasted chewy and luke warm. No menus incase you want to order something that will actually be made fresh. And to top it off it is super expensive! We paid for four plates what we would have paid for 8 plates elsewhere. Sick. Don't go here. more

Best ""round about"" in B'ton 11/22/2009

I go to Sushi Boat about 2 to 3 times a week if I'm in town. I have been going to Sushi Boat since it opened. It has since sold, and the new owner and team is just great. Pros: High fish turnover, good prices & friendly service = #1 more

Fair sushi 9/5/2009

I wonder how long the sushi has sat. i always ask to have mine made fresh. I don't eat the raw fish here. The bathrooms are dirty. The wait staff is getting better but is that because they aren't busy anymore? The prices have gone way up as well. The $1.00 plate is not more. This all happened with the new owners. Pros: good sushi Cons: I never eat the raw fish at this esgtablishment more

I feel sick... 6/27/2008

Sushi boat is an absolutely amazing place if you have no standards in the quality of your sushi. I do not agree with some of the reviews, in that I felt the service was just fine. I was greeted promptly and felt very welcomed. HOWEVER, the sushi here is horrific. Inexperienced sushi chefs plague this establishment. You will see stacks and stacks of prefabricated sushi plates waiting to be placed on the conveyor. ABSOLUTELY NO STANDARD FOR PORTION SIZE OR QUALITY. The sushi was warm and the rice smelt like body oder (which means it has been going round and round on the conveyors all damn day!). I shared my dissatisfaction with the lady sitting next to me. The fact of the matter is that Sushi boat is just fine if you have never tasted quality sushi. I knew going in that conveyor belt sushi is typically sub prime, however, Sushi boat sushi is a JOKE. I ate there about 30 minutes ago and already I have a clammy sweat going down my forehead and my stomach is in serious pain. MUCH BETTER SUSHI ESTABLISHMENTS AWAIT YOU! SHAME OF YOU SUSHI JOKE! more

Horrible Place 5/9/2008

This has to be one of the worst places (period) I have ever been to. First the fish was not very fresh. Second the rice was very cheap (tasted like Korean rice). Third when I went to use the restroom one of the Sushi chef's was in there and when he was done with his business he walked out, me right behind him and he did not wash his hands in the restroom or at the sink behind the counter. Needless to say we walked out immediately. Cons: dirty people, dirty food more

Sushi for the whole family 12/29/2007

My family and I love this place. I have to agree with a previous rater - we've been going here since it opened, and it's still our favorite go-to place. It's a good place to try out different kinds of sushi without having to order a large serving. It's very clean, the food has always been delicious, and it's good for families, couples, or just by yourself. We highly recommend it! more

Watch Out 6/7/2007

The fresh (relative term) fish sits pre-made waiting way too long to go on the conveyor. Items which should be cold are not; items which should be hot are not: items which should be crisp are not. If you are new to Sushi you might try a Japanese Grill instead. Pros: cheap, quick, caters to those new to sushi Cons: poor qualily more

Great for a quick meal. 2/18/2007

I have lived in this neighborhood for over 5 years and have gone to Sushi Boat since it opened. The staff is nice and very hands off so they are not constantly in your face. If you are looking for an easy quick meal (lunch, small young family) this is a good place. The sushi is fresh and the number of selections is somewhat limited but covers the basics. I think this is a great ""quick"" place and hope they are here for a long time. If you are looking for a swank, intimate dinner this isn't the place but otherwise I definitely recommned it. Pros: Quick, simple, bright, easy, cheap, very clean, good hours Cons: not a 4 star place but still clean and nice more

Cute idea..... 2/5/2007

I was excited about eating here, I thought the little boat idea was cute and it looked like a nice place to go. The Sushi wasn?t anything special for how much it was, only a little bit more per plate than other places around but that will add up very fast. more

It not all about the food! 4/9/2006

My family and I eat here quite often. The sushi is usually pretty frech and the prices are good as well. HOWEVER, the service is not great. The wait staff was friendly but not tentative, the owners, one at the cash register the other behind the bar are both unfriendly. One would think that the owners, who are there everyday would be more friendly. When customers go out or come in, they the sushi chef all say thanks or hello, but never look you in the eye. The lady behind the register never smiles and looks pissed off every time I go in. I've been going in for almost two years now and she still does not even smile! The sushi is nice, just need to work on the customer service. Pros: good sushi, fast, mostly fresh Cons: service needs help, owners need to smile, service service more

This place is FANTASTIC! 4/7/2006

Sushi Boat is mine and my best friend's place! We go there at least every other day. The sushi is fabulous. The little river of boats and surf boards is a huge step up from conveyer belt. The sushi makers are nice, most of them don't speak a whole lot of english, but they ALWAYS greet you when you walk in and say goodbye when you leave! The ladies that act as the waitresses are very nice, too. The pricing is from $1.75 to $2.75 a plate. Sushi Boat goes beyond just sushi, they also serve dessert. Fruit salads, cream puffs, cheese cake. They also have teryaki and soup! It's worth a try! Pros: Great food, nice servers, good location Cons: expensive, not enough parking, not big enough more

Excelent Place 2/3/2006

I go there as often as I can. It is a rotation sushi place, so it may not be as ""fresh"" as some made-on-order places, but it is the best of it's type, hands down. I have never had bad sushi there, and the chefs and staff are very friendly. If something is not on a boat, don't be shy to ask for it. Pros: Friendly Staff, Inexpensive, Good Sushi more

Waterlogged Cuisine 9/29/2005

You get in there thinking their method for mass production of sushi must translate to value or at least some variety of options. Neither is true. I won't be back. The only thing this place has going for it is that you don't have to wait for a seat or to get something to eat. Everything is just a sneezeguard away. more

User review by shellmarie 8/11/2005

My family and I really like this place; not the cheapest dinner out, but good food. I completely disagree with the comment (a different review) that the sushi here is bad. We are sushi lovers and sticklers for fresh-tasting, good quality sushi and this place provides it. more

Fun Place 2/17/2005

I think this is a great place for people who have either never tried sushi or are intimidated by menus with no pictures. The sushi floats by right in front of you and you just have to take it off it's boat. When I was there the plates were changed pretty frequently, and the sushi tasted very fresh. The only downfall was the service. Since we had never been there before we waited five minutes to be seated, before realizing we sat ourselves (as the... hostess(?)) kept walking by. Also at the end of the meal we weren't sure how to leave either. I think (still not sure) we were just supposed to stand up and the hostess was supposed to come over and give us a bill for what we had eaten. Overall I do recommend it, now that we know what we're doing, it'll be much more fun. Pros: Inexpensive, No wait for food, good for beginners Cons: service more

good idea, bad sushi 2/6/2004

I ate here once when it first opened and was unimpressed, so I went again last night and it is still bad. The floating sushi boats are more fun than the conveyor belts, but that is the only good part. The sushi itself is made way too far in advance - behind the counter are stacks of ready-made sushi that has been sitting there for who knows how long. The sushi is room-temperature, the tempura is cold, and the avocado is brown. Yuk. Pros: cute little boats, friendly chefs Cons: , inattentive hostess, bad sushi more

a Sushi Boat for every citizen! 7/1/2003

I wish there were Sushi Boat restaurants across Portland. It was the best conveyor belt/floating plate sushi place I've been to in town. Great basics for good prices, special sushi plates that were beautiful and bountiful, and even non-sushi items like spring rolls, pork dumplings, and chicken teriyaki were cruising along the conveyor. I love this place. It's a shame that it's the only one in town. Pros: great presentation, good quality, delicious and fast Cons: prices a bit confusin more
