Supper 1/23/2011

We had a wonderfulr "" Restaurant WeeK"" supper here. This is our second time and both experiences were fantastic. The atmosphere and music was delightful and we had a wonderful server. Best of all the gourmet food was so unbelievabl y delicious.Everything was so unique but not too much to be overkill. We left completely satisfied and will be back soon. My husband has a veggie Shephard's Pie and I had a slow roasted chicken that is far better than any chicken I have had in a restaurant,. The meal was just superb. Thanks !!!! to the wonderful chef and his lovely wife. more

a nice stop on south street 1/15/2011

While looking for nice, quiet place to eat in the area my wife and i stopped into SUPPER around 5:30 for a small bite to eat and were very glad we did. The wings are sweet and tangy, the sweet potato soup was excellent as was the butterfish and scallops. The portions are small, but are served in a manner that i found perfect. Never having plates lying around or waiting for my next portion. Server was fantastic as is the atmosphere. more

Great Food and Atmosphere 4/19/2010

My husband and I have been to Supper twice and loved it both times. The first was first Sunday brunch when Supper offered a nice variety of savory and sweet options. The highlight of the meal for both of us was the banana beignets that we had as a starter. Piping hot when they came to the table we couldn't even wait for them to cool before we finished them off- they were that tasty. The second time about six months later for dinner on a Sunday night. My husband had the savory duck and waffle and I had the rabbit pot pie. Both meals were delish and the perfect portions for us to clean our plates without feeling too full. The portions are much smaller then most ""traditional american"" resteraunts, and they make that clear on their menu. For a starter we had buffalo wings which were coated in a peppery sweet sauce sitting in pools of some sort of buttermilk dipping sauce- yum! For dessert, I had the banana bread pudding with nutella, hazelnut icecream and a carmelized banana. My husband had a lemon raspberry dessert. As paid the bill our server (who was attentive and quick to fill our glass or clear our plates) presented us with two small oatmeal raisin cookies fresh from the oven. Although too pricey for us to eat here regularly it is a nice special spot and the unusual menu and intriguing flavor combinations make it well worth the price. For $100 inlcuding tip we had one appetizer, two main dishes, two desserts, one glass of wine each and once cup of coffee each. Pros: Variety of Menu, local ingredients, attentive staff Cons: Pricey for a regular night out, small wine list more

GREAT PLACE TO DINE 4/8/2009

wHAT A GREAT PLACE. IT IS A WARM, FRIENDLY BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO DINE. THE FOOD IS WONDERFUL, WITH CONSTANT MENU CHANGES SO YOU CAN GO OFTEN AND NOT BE BORED! SOMETIMES IT'S FUN TO GET ALL APPETIZERS, BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL SO GOOD, YOU CAN'T MAKE UP YOUR MIND. LOVE THIS PLACE! Pros: CREATIVE DIFFERENT MENU - SEASONAL CHANGES Cons: CAN'T GET THERE EVERY NIGHT more

Best Brunch in Philly!!! 4/7/2009

So I was in Supper for Brunch this past weekend and it was amazing. I'd been for dinner bunch of times and it was always great and our waiter recommended we come in for brunch. It was great! They have a bloody mary list that is awesome, mine had clam juice and a pickled quail egg and was crazy good and my Fiancee had the one with gin and cucumber and it was great. And the food is awesome too. The french toast is deep fried. Oh yes, deep fried and AMAZING and the Frittata was great too. They had taken their Squash soup off the menu, which is my favorite soup ever! I'm sure the new one is good but it cannot compare. And the music at brunch was great. Go here for brunch or dinner and you will not be disappointed. I used to love Sabrina's and this is my new top spot. Pros: Awesome Bloody Mary's and great Music Cons: I miss the soup more

Great Atmosphere, Amazing Food 4/6/2009

I've been to Supper numerous times and every experience has been excellent. The food is delicious and the servers knowledgeable and friendly. I think some people just don't get that Supper is the type of restaurant where you're supposed to sample numerous items from the menu to get the whole experience. Every time I go I order a couple hors d'oeuvres and a couple regular plates. I always feel very satisfied and the cost is no more than any other fine restaurant in the city. I'm a big fan of this place; it's a great addition to the Philly restaurant scene. Pros: Food, Service, Decor Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Horribly overpriced and poor food 3/7/2009

The service was mediocre. Our waiter tried his best to put a positive spin on the food but seemed to hesitate recommending certain items. We eventually found out why. Pros: ambience Cons: Food taste, portion size, value, more

Looks cute, not that great 10/9/2008

I had some average expectations for this place- it looks cute and I love BYOs and little restaurants, not a fan of the over-priced, not that quality Steven Starr restaurants in the city. Pros: cute interior Cons: weird tasting plates with milk in them, smoky (from the cooking) sitting area more

Simply Superb--Where to Eat When You Can't be in Paris 8/30/2008

If you like European style dining, Supper is the place for you. A superior menu with small portions that allows you to put together a wonderful taste experience. Share two appetizers, then move on to sharing two main dishes, and wind up with the fabulous Farmer's Plate, a selections of delicious meats and cheeses. Add a bottle of ""water with gas"" and two bottles of wine, and it's the closest thing to the Marais or the Left Bank on this side of the Atlantic. Enjoy some of the best waiters around, who never leave dirty dishes on the table. Mitch & Co. are to be congratulated for bringing European elegance to Bella Vista. We live two blocks away and Supper is our now favorite restaurant, a nice break from Sabrina's wholesome hippie-ness. It's a great place for a romantic evening midweek. Big eaters in cargo pants, Nikes, and oversize T-shirts should go elsewhere. Pros: Beautiful decor, great service, tasty menu more

Avoid at all Cost!!!!!!! 7/13/2008

Do not go to this restaurant. Frist of all, the help is nasty and obviously trained to sell outrageously expensive appetizer sized dishes that are like you get at a cocktail party on a butler's tray. What a joke! Not only was the food expensive but you left hungry. They also had the nerve to charge $11.00 for a mixed drink. The kicker to the whole deal is that that part of South Street on a Saturday evening is a mangerie of Police and freaks! Cons: A complete rip-off! more

Best Brunch I've had in Philadelphia 6/25/2008

I had been to Supper once for dinner and was thrilled with everything! The food, atmosphere, and service. The menu was creative and tasty, which was perfect for my family, I love sea food, my husband is a meat and potatoes guy, and my teenager is a vegatrian so it's diffucult for us to all find a place that we all can enjoy, and we finally did! I was pleased when I found out that Supper did Brunch on Sundays, as I make sure my family gets together on Sundays to spend together, and this was the perfect place for it. We went father's day and everything was unbeliveable. I am going back this Sunday for Brunch and I am very excited Pros: diverse menu, amazing brunch, warm atmosphere more

Excellent fresh food! 6/17/2008

When you walk in you immediately notice that Supper has nothing to hide. The kitchen is open, the decor is minimal but pretty, and the food reflects that vibe. There aren't any HUGE plates or overwhelming sauces, just well prepared meals that have great flavor. There were a lot of familiar flavors and lots of vegetarian choices, yet there was a distinctive flair to everything we ate. The desert was TERRIFIC! I can't wait to eat here again. Pros: open, airy, great staff, wide range of food choices, good wine/beer selection Cons: yes, on the pricey side, but well worth the money more

Thank god it's two blocks from our house 4/26/2008

When Supper opened just two blocks from our house we waited about two months before we ate there because we have so many favorites in the city already. When we finally went in it was for drinks after a dinner we had at another restaurant. The service was great, the drinks were creative, so we returned the following week for dinner. It was one of our best ""suppers"" in Philly ever. The tangerine soup was flawless, the pork belly was done to perfection. We then returned the very next week for brunch. It is now our favorite brunch spot hands down. What a great departure from the shabby-shabby places like the morning glory and Sabrina?s that are filled with mobs of suburban families, and wana-be hipsters. The chef, Mitch, is friendly, the staff is warm, the decor is beautiful without being over-stated. Thank god for Supper, we love it there. Pros: The quality of the food, creativity of the menu Cons: I can't eat there every night more

Outrageously expensive 4/1/2008

Avoid this restaurant if you're hungry. The portions are miniscule for the price. I was there on March 28, 2008. Be prepared to spend a lot for a little. Pros: Nice atmosphere. What you do get is tasty. Cons: Little food for a lot of money more

Truly one of Philly's finest!! 3/7/2008

This is truly one of Philadelphia's finest! It is a delight to fine a place where the food is outstanding, the atmosphere warm and friendly, and the portions very European in size, a delight. If you are looking for a typical American restaurant where one portion of very average food can feed a family of four, this is not for you. However, if you love truly great food which pairs many unique ingredients prepared and served like some of the best meals I have had in Europe, this IS for you. My recommednations are the Chicken wings, and Wild Boar appetizers, the Butternut Squash Gnocchi with a brown butter sauce, the Short Ribs, the Scallops, and any of the wonderful desserts. It was a pleasure having the chef visit our table. The meal is pricey, but worth every bite. We will be back soon. Pros: Outstanding food and service Reasonable portions, very European in size as meals should be Cons: Pricey, but worth it! more

Small portions, poor service for some reason means high prices. 3/7/2008

I had high hopes for this restaurant, unfortunately I was greatly dissapointed. Had a great view that overlooked South Street. This ended up being the highlight of the meal. Our watiress muttered a few comments after finally stopping by our table approximately fifteen minutes after we were seated. Barely welcoming us to the restaurant we felt less than welcome. The restaurant stresses the first courses as being bigger than normal appetizers but smaller than regular entrees. The only thing bigger than an appetizer was the price. The food is over priced and the portions do not equate to what you are paying for. The highlight of the night was running across the street to Whole Foods where I picked up some nice desserts that was worth the price. Pros: Ambiance Cons: Food. there is not enough of it and what you get is overpriced. Service was poor. more

Best romantic spot in Philadelphia. 1/30/2008

Truly unique and refreshing addition to the Philadelphia restaurant scene. Great food and service. The bar was great were we had cucumber gimlets before seating down. The concept of small plates allows you to make your own personalized tasting menu. Nice touch having the owner / chef visit tables. Keep up the good work. more

AVOID AVOID AVOID 1/6/2008

this is the first review i've written, and i usually think people with negative things to say are overly picky -- but i just have to tell you all how awful this restaurant is. it's PAINFUL how hard they've tried to make it ""upscale"" -- emphasis on the quotes. from the ridiculous names of the food, to the high price of each dish, to the TINY portions. it's like they tried to do every cliche thing that would make a restaurant into a fancy shmancy ""high class"" joint...oh, except for one all-important element: GOOD FOOD. the dishes were completely blah. and one dish in particular stands out -- i'd say, out of the tiny chunk of meat they gave us (and which, of course, was exhorbitantly priced), 50% was fat. so there you have it -- if you've got some money to spend on a nice meal, save it for a restaurant that will satisfy, on all counts. more

Supper's Super! 12/20/2007

This is possibly the best restaurant in Philly. A homey, welcoming place with top-notch ambiance, no attitude, fast service, quality ingredients and innovative yet simple meals. A healthy supper for the distinguished palate--made to order--without pretense or haughtiness. If it were just a tad bit less expensive we would be regulars. Pros: Beautiful, cozy space... Cons: Pricey more

Truly impressed 11/14/2007

Supper was just the right thing at the right time. I walked in for a bite on a Friday, after a week of being stuck in my apartment with a nasty cold. Was pampered as soon as I walked in and seated promptly. My partner and I ordered the moroccan chicken, artichoke and cauliflower fritters and french ham to start, then the pork belly and octopus. I had the riesling, he had the carmenere- the wines by the glass were pricey, but the pours generous. We ate a ridiculous amount of the homemade bread- it was just so very delicious, and both the butter and olive oil offered were delicious and artisanal. The dish flavours tied together very well , and the portions were of adequate size, larger than tapas. I can understand why the moroccan boneless chicken wings sell out- they were our favorite! Extremely tender, moist and flavorful. The fritters did not have a dipping sauce, but I'm not complaining since the dry spices in which they had been rubbed provided plenty of a taste treat- nonetheless, a sweet and citrusy sauce may have added even more to the dish. The octopus was served with a delightful miso dressing and a server was even able to get me chopsticks, since I felt funny skewering such Japanese inspired fare. The pork belly was divine, and featured poached quince, which reappeared as a light, gummy candy later along with a few other after-dinner sweet complimentary treats. This was just one of the pleasant surprises along with the attentive, cheerful and NICE servers. The tab was reasonable, but this is not an ""eat 'til you pop"" type restaurant. More of a savour every bite place, which is what I prefer anyway when I go out. The chef even came up to talk to me when he saw me jotting down some notes in my sketchbook, and we discussed the uniqueness of the fragrant olive oil and the fact the the octopus had arrived fresh that day. A really terrific experience that I am looking forward to repeating. Pros: service, food, ambience Cons: it will soon get ""discovered"", which will be good for business and bad for me more
