My sister gave me a surprise b-party there, August 17, 2013. I was miseralble. The service was terrible, but the food was good I took it home. The manager there that night was so mean and rude it was totally outrages. I'm writing this because I was told by my aunt that they took their Bishop there and no problems. The manager for that night was Mike S. Kept rolling his eyes at us when he walked by because all the party didn't show up only 10 people showed. He was terrible That was not good customer service. He totally with the staff messed up my wonderful day. Thanks Sunset. more

Sunset Restaurant 7/3/2011

Service terrible. Food average. I wouldn't go there again Also, both the bathrooms in the bar and the lounge area were out of order. Place has gone down hill in the last few years. They haven't kept the place up. It's a shame. Used to be a pleasure going there. more

Outstanding 1/26/2010

I lived in the Maryland area about 15 years ago, and developed a taste for the unique cruisine produced in the area. Being in the area, with some spare time on my hands, I visited the Sunset on the recommendation of a couple local gentlemen. They said they had been eating there for year, and after visiting, I understand why! The patient, friendly staff were happy to point out some of their favorites on the menu, and I was very happy with the results. The Cream of Crab soup was outstanding, the Seafood Platter was enourmous and very well prepared and the Strawberry Shortcake will go down in my own personal book of culinary legends. A mountainous concoction of shortbread, homemade, thick, sweet whipped cream and crisp strawberry sauce! Nothing wrecks a good strawberry shortcake as quickly as mushy strawberries and artificial whipped cream! The staff were great, the food was outstanding, the decor was classic. I would definitely return if the opportunity presented itself! Pros: Cream of Crab soup, Strawberry Shortcake Cons: Can't think of any right now more

the worst for my money 12/6/2009

My husband and myself have been going to sunset resaurant since my prom and now I am 50 this year. We went out for our birthday dinners as we always do and we order for me sunset surf and turf and it stated lobster and new york strip steak my husband ordered a new york strip steak dinner and a crab cake on the side well when my dinner came I received a lobster tail and steak the lobster tail was rubbery and the new york strip stk was one quarter of and inch thick. We asked the waitress about the lobster and she said that that was lobster tail and we had meantioned that all of the other entrees on the menu stated lobster tail all accept this one well for what I received for 32.00 and some change I would have never had order this at all. My husband had new york strip as well and his cute was three quarter of an inch to an inch in thickness compared to my quarter and his crab cake that he ordered on the side was placed right down in his steak juice so his whole crab cake tasted just like steak and that was a side order.I am so disapointed I would have never had ordered my entree had I known that it was not a lobster as stated because it is not worth the money at all. I guess we will be going else where for our dinners I am sorry to say but they act like they don't care and it is what it is. Well I think that they have really gone done hill. Pros: the best of what Cons: yes we were coned more

Excellent for all 12/13/2008

I too have been going to The Sunset for many, many years. I have never felt that any customer was treated in a fashion different from others with a couple of exceptions. Those exceptions were situations where the customers had been so personally obnoxious and distracting that after other patrons complained the resttaurant personnel did what they had to in an effort to calm the boisterous and rude folks down. I am thinking of two instances in more than twenty years. In each situation it was the behavior of some patrons and complaints from others that caused any dissatisfaction. One time it was a Caucasian group and one time it was an African American group. I did not see treatment any different either time. I believe that if a custtomer comes to a nice restaurant and acts appropriately the customer will be treated appropriately. I'm not convinced the earlier complainer acted appropriately from the start. You reap what you sow. more

Great Restaurant with amazing Cream of Crab soup 11/14/2008

I've visited the Sunset many times for both lunch and dinner throughout the past 25 years. I must respond to the negative previous comment that this operation cares about ""color"". I am an African American and have yet to feel anything but well treated there from my very first visit. The staff recognizes and remembers repeat customers. My spouse accompanies me at times and is treated the same. I've also visited with several members of my company for lunch and received nothing but positive feedback. Many have found their way back to the restaurant after their first visit because of satisfaction. The Sunset's cream of crab soup is second to none, especially with the sherry that accompanies it. If you like pickled beets as I do, you cannot find any at any restaurant to have anything that comes close. Their seafood platters are awesome. The shrimp salad served in a tomato is fabulous with large sized shrimp. My native to Southern MD relatives have frequented this restaurant for many years (when I was a child) and come a great distance (from below Annapolis) just because of the great food and service. I hope the Sunset continues to be that great restaurant that I have always experienced. more

Rude Waitress, Expensive Food, Smoke Stench, Funeral Parlor Lighting & Decor 9/26/2008

A rude waitress marks our last visit to the Sunset Restaurant. When I ordered my second Diet Coke the grey haired waitress with glasses launched into a speech of the ill effects of diet soda and Nutrasweet. After her mention ""you really shouldn't drink those.."" was given an icy response she continued with her own chemical analysis and effects of Diet Coke. Finally I had to tell to ""LEAVE ME ALONE!"". Question: Isn't she suppose to be making my evening a pleasant one? Does she also counsel the five martini crowd that frequent this establishment? That finishes our trips to this place. Do you think they'll miss five guys regularly eating prime rib dinners? $$$ The expensive food while always good just doesn't make the grade anymore. In addition, the place has never been cleaned of the incredible smoke residue left behind after the smoking ban. The stale stench permeates every molecule of the building. Finally the place is lighted and decorated like a funeral home. Perhaps all of the senior citizens serving tables there don't know they're dead yet? more

Such blatant racism 9/10/2007

I usually go to a restaurant and if the food or service is bad I will brush it off and say I'll complain but I never do. Today I just could not do that. I went to Sunset Grill today during my lunch hour with a party of six African-American coworkers. First of all they stated they only had seats in the smoking section when clearly there were seats empty across the entire restaurant. After the we were sitting and sat for 20 min before one of my coworkers had to ask a waitress when someone was going to come help us. The waitress ignored him the first 3 times he called her and finally acknowledged him when I spoke up as well. I guess to loud African American voices got her attention. She returned seven min later and stated someone will be with us. After swatting the flies away for another 5 min. we decided to get up and leave and thats when some women who looked like the manager came over and stated she would take our order, we left. I have never experienced anything like that before. I do not leave under rose colored glasses but that experience was horrible. Please do not go to the restaurant and if you are of color I suggest you check your food or make sure you in for along wait. Cons: Would no any no one served us more

Family Run Restaurant 12/31/2005

Just had a new year's eve dinner with my wife last night at the Sunset Restaurant. Have been going there for years for special occasions and although I was disappointed some years back with the service, it has since improved. The food is excellent. The shrimp cocktail is very meaty and tasty. I always get the filet mignon, which is consistently prepared exactly to my liking. It is ""melt-in-your-mouth"" tender and juicy. And they provide a complimentary crackers and cheese basket and a veggie plate when you sit down. The downer is the place is packed on holidays and they don't take reservations on holidays, so a wait could be an hour-plus, but it is well worth it. The atmosphere is cozy and the wife thinks it is very romantic in the fireside room--I can agree with that. Pros: Free parking, steak and seafood, cocktail lounge Cons: long waits on holiday, pricey more

Wonderful Cuisine 1/9/2005

My husband and I have been dining at the Sunset for years. They are not the cheapest restaurant in town, but you won't leave hungry! If you like seafood, this is one of our favorite places to have it. Their Cream of Crab soup is serve with sherry and it is to die for! Other favorites with us are the seafood combo, imperial crab, stuffed soft crabs and of course crabcakes! All dinners begin with their cheese and relish tray. They have been around ever since I can remember and it is a great place for a evening with your spouse or a special evening with family:) Pros: ambience, parking, great food/portions Cons: , service at times, has gotten noisy more

A very average restaurant, at best. Having lived within a few miles of the Sunset for 15 years, I tried it frequently. My experiences were not very favorable. Given that the best Italian Restaurant in the Baltimore area, Trattoria Alberto, is only 2 miles away, it was always difficult to justify visiting the Sunset. Pros: Inexpensive, Quick Service Cons: suspect food quality more

Excellent, not cheap. 12/30/2002

Excellent Food, but it is not cheap. The lobster is wonderful and the service is also. more

Dim yet Enchanting 8/20/2002

The Sunset is a nice resturant located in the heart of AA county. It is nestled as the only resturant on the road. The resturant is done in dim light and booths and tables. The food is great and the complimentary crackers go great with the cheese. Also if you are looking for some private time withyour loved one this is the place where noone will look for you. Pros: takes reservations Cons: crowded on weekends more
