I was referred to Sunset Pet hospital when I moved to the area from Seattle, by my dog's trainer. He felt that Dr. Shottman's demeanor and training methods would be a good match for a couple of rescued rotties with ""issues"", and boy was he right! Unbelievably, Tinkerbell actually liked the team there, and she was usually so afraid of vets that she'd wet herself trying to get away. For that matter, even my sketchy Starbreaker starts wagging his little nubbin when he sees where we're going. Sadly, the cats never seemed impressed, but, well, they're cats. They never seemed distressed, either. \r \r Honestly, if you take the time to form a relationship with the staff, the way you would a medical doctor, you're going to reap the most benefits here. I've been with them for almost 7 years now, and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. I've tried a lot of different vets over the years, as I've owned pets my whole life. There are some that are cheaper, it's true, but the quality of the vaccines they buy and other, similar issues, are reflected directly in those costs. This vet takes my pet's health very seriously, but they also take my sensibilities into account. I'm not a huge fan of unnecessary chemicals, for example, but totally willing to cook for a neurotic emo rottie. By listening to my concerns, Doctor was able to immediately flex and recommend alternate treatment that has really helped my aging boy. \r \r When the unthinkable happens and it's time to say goodbye, this team is the absolute best. They've helped me through the loss of two of my furry companions, and have done so with compassion and understanding. \r \r The facility is clean but not fancy, and the staff is kind, cheerful, and they have a sense of humor. They praise my pets and tell them how good they are, until they're wagging and wiggling. They recognize how my pets bond to me and work with that relationship, unlike all the previous vets who tried to intervene or work against it. Overall, this has been the best partnership I could have ever hoped for, and I would hope that anyone looking for a ""family"" vet for the life of companion animals who are family, and not just pets, would consider this vet. \r more

I have been going to Sunset Hospital since 1998 or 1999 when Dr. Schottman bought the clinic. She is an excellent veterinarian and took wonderful care of my rescue senior cat Kyla for the entire time I had her in my life. Dr. Schottman discovered her hyperthyroidism and kidney disease, and worked diligently with me to keep them under control, giving her the best quality of life possible. She also cared for my Kyla up until the end when she had bladder cancer. \r I have moved away from Renton, but I still drive the 20 minutes each way to take my dog Daisy to see her. Daisy doesn't like strangers too much but I see her relax a little every time Dr. Schottman walks in the exam room and talks to her. The staff at Sunset Hospital are great too. They are super friendly and are always happy to see us. I can always get in for an appointment that is convenient to my schedule. I really appreciate their Saturday morning hours too.\r Sunset Hospital and Dr. Schottman also took care of my uncle's two cats when he lived in the area. I would highly recommend Sunset Hospital for anyone looking for a caring and knowledgeable veterinarian. more

The Most Compassionate Vet Around 6/5/2010

I chose to start going to Sunset Pet Hospital after a terrible experience at my previous vet. I had read up on the hospital on their website and Dr Schottman definately had the same values and views on our children as I did. My first visit to see Dr Kate, was warm and inviting. Her assistants came into the room and smiled and greeted me immediately, and got on the floor and gave my dog kisses. They are very thorough with their recommendations and education, and I for one appreciate that. When Dr Kate came in she got down on my dogs level also, and made us feel like family. Their prices are reasonable considering the education and level of care you recieve. I even got a call that day with fecal results and the doctor personally called me the next morning to go over my dogs bloodwork. I cant thank Dr Schottman and her staff more for giving me a safehaven to bring my ""children"". Pros: Warm,Welcoming, Educational, Excellent Medicine Cons: Sometimes front desk a little slow more

Kind and caring folks who know their stuff 8/18/2009

I am so glad I found Dr Kate and her team at Sunset Pet Hospital. My cat had what I'd been told was a cold by one vet and an allergy by another. Dr Kate knew it was something more than that and sent me to a specialist who diagnosed my beloved friend with cancer. I was heartbroken. Everyone at the hospital knew how upset I was and were kind and caring with me even when I was a wreck. Dr Kate did research and encouraged me to try treatment. Thanks to that I had my beloved cat for another 3 years, until she died of old age. I always knew she was in good, gentle hands when I dropped her off for treatments. When it was time to let her go, everyone at the hospital was so sad and I knew they really understood what she meant to me. She is gone now, but I have 2 new kittens who I take to Dr Kate. I hope they never get sick, but I know if they do they will get the best of care. Pros: Really kind and caring people, top notch medically Cons: Some staff turnover and sometimes takes a while to check out more
