Hooray for Sunset Cantina! 4/28/2010

This is the best place for anything, from a big group outing to an intimate date to showing your parents a cool college restaurant. The decor consists of everything beer-related, and you can't go wrong w/ any of the food here - the portions are huge for a decent price (i.e. nachos for $8). Can't comment on the drinks as I'm not 21 yet, but my friends always rave about the birthday cake shot... guess where I'll be for my 21st!! Service is great, the servers are attentive and laid-back. Be prepared to wait a bit on the weekends during the busier hours. Pros: Fun decor, good food, lots of beer Cons: Sometimes a bit of a wait more

Really disappointed... I've ordered from them before, but not through GrubHub. When I went to pick up my food, they said they didn't have the order -- but to go to their other location. The second place didn't have it either, and sent me back to the first one... where my order had been all along. Everything was cold by then, and just didn't taste good. Serious screw-up. more

Nachos and beer 9/28/2007

You have to get the nachos. But expect to share with the group and still feel as full as you can fathom. They've also got the best beer selection for miles, as well as some top-notch ciders. I've had the burgers and they're not my favorite, but they're still pretty good. The servers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The only downfall is that it's always crowded with BU dudes acting stupid. Maybe they're not acting. Still, the food and beer is fantastic if you have the good fortune of being seated far enough from the men's lacrosse team. Pros: Apps, beer, cider, service Cons: yeah dudes, parking in allston more

my wife and i went to sunset cantina last week and we had a great time! the food was decent and i enjoyed the extensive beer list. the service was amazing!! the young lady that waited on us was very friendly and helped me pick out a new and tasty beer each time i ordered! although the restaraunt was kind of loud it seemed like everyone was having a great time, all in all a very good experience and i would highly reccomend it! Yummy nachos 4/24/2007

Berr list is great, margaritas are decent, nachos are awesome and some of the sandwiches are pretty good. This restaurant has literally the worst service I have ever received anywhere in my entire life. We go back knowing it will be horrible and expecting it, only because we love the nachos. Service at Sunset Grill and Tap, up the street, is better has a bigger beer list and serves the same food plus pizza. Pros: nachos, beer selection Cons: service is terrible more

Crowded but Excellent 12/4/2006

We went to Sunset Cantina for the first time on a busy Friday night and only had a 20 minute wait, though it ended up being spent in the crowded bar - be ready to jockey for position to get a drink while waiting. They have an extensive tequila list and some different margaritas, but I have to say that you'd be hard pressed to find one that is better than their more ""mainstream"" margaritas. We started off with nachos with chili - the nachos were great, and the chili was a little sweeter than I was anticipating, but still good. Unfortunately, the chili was at the BOTTOM of the plate, so it took a while to get to it. For the main course, the jambalya fajitas were great - they have some of the best fajita spices and sauce I've ever had. The ranchero steak enchilada was good, but a little more flavor would have been appreciated, as would have veggies that had been cooked a bit more. It is a fun place with good margaritas, some different variations on it, a big menu and lots of fun. I didn't know a party of 4 automatically ended up with 18% gratuity on the tab?? I thought its always a party of 6 and over?? I am never cheap on tips, I just thought that was unnecessary.. and rude. more

I love the Sunset Cantina! I also love tequila, and the Citysearch review says they have about 30 tequilas, but the last time i was there, the bartender told me they had over 100 different kinds! It's a great place to sit outside and enjoy a delicious margarita while watching the Comm. Ave. action. My favorite thing is the taco buffet thay have at lunch. SOOO much food! Pros: food, tequila selection, outdoor tables Cons: none! more

Good for Beer, Bad for Margaritas 3/1/2006

The beer, like Sunset Grille on Allston is fantastic! Go here if you want a fun atmosphere, enjoy pub grub appetizers and good beer, but no more than that. Lots of times, that's enough....and I would most definitely come back for the beer! Downside is they claim to have Boston's Best Margaritas - that turned out to be a farse. Between all of my friends, we each got to try at least 4 types from their margarita menu and they were all awful. I could make a better margarita at home. Food was also not at all impressive. Don't go here if you want real Mexican and Southwestern. I ordered a steak called ""Like Buttah"" - claimed to melt in your mouth - I ordered medium rare, got it so totally well done and it was more ""Like Rubbah."" My favorite-though service sucks! 8/25/2005

Sunset is my absolute favorite for the food alone. It is perfect hangover food, and is great at making you feel 10 pounds heavier afterwards. I went to Sunset at least once a week when I lived in Boston, and make a point of going whenever I am back visiting.The servers tend to be poorly trained and over-sat, but they usually try their hardest. Don't go for the service, go for the spinach/artichoke dip! more

I go to Sunset all the time - I'm there at least once or twice per week. The food is amazing, and I loooove the margaritas. The waitstaff is very friendly, and service is fairly fast (unless they're ridiculously crowded - and then service is medium). I would take anybody there any day. It is the best restaurant ever! more
