!!BEWARE!!\r I'll start by saying that Dr. Kumar and his staff do NOT listen to the customer at ALL, well at least not me. \r I called to make an appointment to have my 8 week o...

Great Vet- Seriously. Honest review. 12/3/2009

I am quite shocked by things some of the other reviewers have said. First, I'd like to address the claims that the office is dirty. Wow! It is very clean always, not even animal hair on the floors. The patient rooms are clean as well, and I have personally seen the back area and procedure room and paid attention to the cleanliness. After all, one of my little dogs was about to have surgery and I'm very careful about hygiene. The office is basic, but who cares? It's nice to walk in and not have clutter everywhere. Another person said the vet techs were rude and cold. I have personally dealt with all 3 of the techs and can only say that they have been nothing but nice and caring. They remember you by name, take the time to ask about your day and how your pets are doing, and they answer any questions you may have. That is not my definition of rude and cold. As far as Dr. Kumar is concerned, I have nothing but praise for this doctor. He SAVED MY DOG'S LIFE! I have an 8 lb dog who was mauled by a Rottweiler and Dr. Kumar is the one who saved him. I had gone to one other vet before that who did nothing! She didn't care, she only cared that I had bought their in house insurance so she didn't want to do expensive surgery since as an insurance holder I would get 50% off the procedure (Center Sinai Animal Hospital- worst place ever). Dr. Kumar performed surgery on him and he has recovered. Additionally, he has helped me fix my dog's skin problems which have been a mystery to countless other vets I have seen before. This man knows what he is doing. I will say that Dr. Kumar is VERY STRAIGHTFORWARD. His bedside manner is not the fuzziest, but he knows his stuff! He is blunt and tells you exactly what is happening and gives you very detailed instructions on how to take care of your pet. Now some people don't want to hear it because usually it entails taking the harder road and taking the time to care for your pet properly. He doesn't sugar coat things, but I would rather have a blunt doctor who knows what he's doing than a saccharine fool. Pros: Great care, clean office, never crowded Cons: Parking... sometimes more

Great Vet! 9/28/2009

He saved my dogs life!!!! My little Vizsla had parvu and he saved her. One of the best vets I ever had and I trust him 100%. He doesn't do unnecessary tests and once when I found a cat in the street he didn't charge me anything for her shots. more

Trustworthy & Knowledgeable Vet 7/24/2009

Wow!!! I can't believe the negative reviews on Dr. Kumar. This Vet has been incredible. We've been coming to Sunset Animal Hospital since 1992. They've had very good vets since then but Dr. Kumar is by far the best Vet. A friend of mine is a VET in NYC and he even thinks Dr. Kumar is excellent. He would never ever recommend any tests unless they are necessary. I know because I've insisted on many alternative therapies for our epileptic dog. more

Best vet my dog ever had 12/15/2008

I adopted an unhealthy basset hound and after having bad experiences at the los feliz small animal hospital i was referred here. Dr. K is soooooooo nice, as well as his staff. They helped my girl live a long happy comfortable life! more

Karl loves Kumar 11/28/2008

Some people have made the following complaints about Dr. Kumar and his clinic:\r \r 1) Unfeeling--my experience? I just got back from Dr. Kumar's. My cat Karl, a purebred Bengal, has been having urinary frequency issues with some blood in his urine. If you know Bengals, you know they are big and can be difficult to handle. A lot of vets are nervous about them. Not Dr. Kumar. He handled Karl well and told me Karl was one of the best behaved Bengals he has ever met. He spent a lot of time petting him and comforting him during the examination to make Karl as calm as possible.\r \r 2) Expensive--my experience? Examination, Xrays, IV Abx, IV hydration, home Abx, home pain medications, 6 cans of cat food (2 different kinds because, according to Dr. Kumar "he should decide which one he likes,") and a nail clipping: $320. I work in human health care. Good luck trying to get Xrays alone for less than $320. \r \r 3) Rude--my experience? I called this morning, was given a 2 pm appointment. We got ther more

Great choice for cats! 10/13/2008

A friend recommended Dr. Kumar to me and I could not be happier. He efficiently has treated my cats on more than one occasion. He has clearly explained his recommendations and any test results. He is very good with my cat, who typically does not do well at the veterinarian's office. I would recommend Dr. Kumar to anyone with a cat, especially an aging cat like mine who occasionally has minor issues. more

Greedy, bad vet who hates animals 10/12/2008

Do yourself a favor - and your pet a bigger one - do not ever take a living thing to Dr Kumar. He doesn't know his trade, he only cares about charging more than anyone else in town does, for really bad service. Even if he knows your pet is dying - or perhaps because he knows there will be no repeat business, he will overcharge you for unnecessary tests and send you home with your pet, to watch it die. He has no facilities, he takes 48 hours to return blood tests, in short - he's a bad, bad doctor and should have his license revoked. more

Excelent Pet Doc! 9/9/2008

My wife and I have been taking our two cats to Dr. Kumar since he was recomended to us by a friend three years ago.\r \r He has always been helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and fair. He frequently calls us at home to follow up on recent visits and he always makes us feel confident about the health of our animals.\r \r His prices are fair...occasionally even too fair... and his staff are friendly and knowledgeable.\r \r We're big fans of Dr. K! more

Lousy Doctor 9/6/2008

Obviously Daniel H. can't read....because if he could he would see that Tracy C. wrote exactly what the problem was with Dr. Kumar.\r \r Like Tracy C, I also had a very bad experience with Dr. Kumar. He was rude and uncaring. He is very arrogant and does not like to answer pet owner's questions regarding their animal's condition. Dr. Kumar and his assistant were very cold and uncaring to my pet. The assistant was very unskilled and had difficulty just taking a basic temperature. The receptionist at the front desk was also very rude. Avoid this animal hospital....they only care about getting your money. more

Hmmmm! Maybe it's not the Doctor. 8/25/2008

First of all, I can read very well thank you. \r \r Well let's see Sarah and Tracy, plus one more negative review. \r \r 3 out of 12 reviews, I have NEVER had a problem yet like you did. Maybe it's you with the problem. Did you every think that you might have an 'attitude' problem and nobody can tell you anything and you are always right about everything? \r \r The vet may not 'baby' your pet or hold or 'treat' your pet the way you personally do and you know your pet better than anyone else. \r \r However, it is not a vet's job to do that. I am sure he did not abuse your pet by hitting or kicking or locking them up or anything bad like that. \r \r You see this person in front of you whose job it is to find out what the problem is and they are not supposed to have emotional attachment to the pets. He has to be unbiased and tell you the facts which you may or may not want to hear. \r \r A vet has to do his job and diagnose the problem best to his/her abilities. Dr Kumar and staff has more

Always Great Care Given 8/25/2008

I have never experienced any of the problems that the negative reviews here are talking about. \r \r Dr. Kumar has helped our 2 dogs for the last 2 years that we have been going to him. It is conveniently located to our residence and always able to get in to see the Dr. when needed. \r \r Great care given to our 'family members' and recommend him for sure. Excellent care and advice from Dr. Kumar and his staff every single time I have been there. Pros: Clean, friendly, good care, appointments on time Cons: could not think of anything more

Great service, value, caring Dr. 8/21/2008

I have four animals and have been to several animal hospitals in the LA area, so I feel that I have enough background to make a proper rating. \r \r Dr. Kumar and his staff are very caring and considerate to myself and my animals. Rates are comparable to other vets, and even less in some cases. Ultimately, it is your decision to which procedures, tests, and medicines you choose for your pet, so if you feel like you are paying too much, maybe you didn't need to do every analysis to get a diagnosis. Last time something 'major' happened, we did full blood work, in-house X-ray (2 images + because the cat couldn't keep still), urine analysis, office visit, stool sample analysis, & meds for 20 days were $420. Granted, diagnosis came from only the blood sample, but Dr. Kumar accurately diagnosed kitty and she is on her path to recovery. Did I also mention that his lab can get results back to you next day? \r \r This is not a 'Beverly Hills' vet with brand-new mid-century furniture, but he i more

HORRIBLE DOCTOR!!!! 8/20/2008

Dr. Kumar is the worst doctor ever. He gets very angry and yells at you if you ask questions about your sick animal. He only cares about taking your money and does not like to give information to the owner of the sick animal. Dr. Kumar feels you are questioning his ability as a Dr. if you ask details about your animal's diagnosis. He prefers pet owners who blindly spend their money on procedures for their animal without knowing the purpose for the particular exam or procedure-whether it be expensive X-rays or an ultrasound. Dr. Kumar wants pet owners to spend hundreds of dollars for their animals and he is only interested in the money. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR!!!! FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR FOR YOUR PET!!!! more

HORRIBLE DOCTOR!!!!! 8/20/2008

WORST DOCTOR EVER!!! He became very angry when he was asked basic questions about my sick cat. He yelled and argued with me for asking questions and said that his integrity and ability as a doctor were being questioned. A concerned pet owner should have the right to ask basic questions about their animal's diagnosis, especially when expensive exams like X-rays and ultrasounds are required for treatment. This doctor is only concerned about getting pet owner's money. He does not care about informing the pet owner about their sick animal. He wants people to blindly spend their money on expensive procedures, whether they are needed or not. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR!!!! FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR FOR YOUR ANIMAL!!!! Cons: HORRIBLE DOCTOR!!!! more

Great Vet! 7/29/2008

I have tried going to 4 or 5 vets in the neighborhood and all of them were trying to sell me some additional unnecessary services or medicate my dog for no reason. Dr. Kumar clearly said not to use any meds till it's really necessary and the only time I had to do it was when my puppy had a staff infection, it went away in few weeks after administering MINIMAL amount of antibiotics as prescribed by Dr. Kumar. Great, knowledgeable, reasonable vet! \r Pros: Great vet, location, parking and prices more

WORST VET I'VE BEEN TO IN L.A. 6/21/2008

I have tried 4 vets since I got my little dog in February, and Sunset Vet is by far the WORST one I've been to. I went with a friend of mine to take her dog in for a simple procedure, and they were so RUDE and UNCARING. They were very cold, and the atmosphere was so depressing, my dog was shaking like a leaf. I had to find another vet that was close to where I live, but I wasn't about to take him to Sunset Vet, so I looked at some of the reviews, and found the BEST vet in L.A. Melrose/La Brea Vet. (See my review) Pros: close to my house Cons: HORRIBLE more

HORRIBLE VET!!!!!!!! 5/14/2008

This Vet is horrible! When first walked in, Dr. Kamur was on the phone yelling at a pets owner to come pick up his dog. He said "" This is not a day care center! Come pick up you dog!"" It was very unprofessional! \r I took my bosses puppy to get her puppy shots and he noticed she had a big belly and decided to take xrays with out asking to if it was ok. He said she had too much food in her belly and needed to induce vomitting. Well the total of the visit came out to $400 and I he didnt even give her the shots. He said i needed to bring her back in 2 weeks. I am never going back. I called and asked them to transfer files to my new Vet! CVG on Venice Blvd. They are awsome! Pros: HATE IT! Cons: HATE IT! more

Caring Vet 1/14/2008

Dr. Kumar has taken excellent care of my dog for 1 1/2 yrs on an almost monthly basis through very difficult times. He also takes care of my cat. He and his staff are very caring and very knowlegeable and up to date and follow the precept: Do No Harm. If he doesn't feel he can do a great job, he will send you to a specialist. He knows cats very very well.. and does surgeries too. Very nice person also. Easy to reach location and nice office at Sunset and Martel (near Gardner, west of La Brea). Free parking. He also stocks the special vet diets like Hills kd, etc(which I use for my dog). They are very accomodating as well. more

Excellent, Caring Veterinarian 12/27/2007

We take all three of our pets to Sunset Animal Hospital. Dr. Kumar is an excellent vet and extremely caring. Recently, our oldest cat, Mr. Kitty, was experiencing a problem urinating. This is cause for concern as it may indicate a serious - sometimes fatal - condition in male cats. I called and was able to get an appointment right away. After a thorough examination, including X-rays - Dr. Kumar determined that it was only an infection. Everything, including medication, came to $240 - which is a very reasonable price. More importantly, I never felt rushed. The doctor took time to talk and answer questions. Mr. Kitty is quite a character - and I felt that Dr. Kumar was genuinely fond of him. Unlike some veterinarians, which seem to cater to dogs - Sunset Animal Hospital is super cat-friendly. I recommended this vet to anyone who wants the best possible care for their pets. more

yuck 9/26/2007

I took my new puppy here and was shocked by the appearence of the waiting room to begin with. Then going in the back the vet tec, was so rude and rough with my puppy. The doctor came in to give him his first exam ever and bearly looked him over and any questions i asked they told me"" not to worry""? not really what I wanted to hear. I will never take my dog there again.Super unhelpfull and very rude vet tecs. Cons: all more
