Sells Puppy Mill Dogs 6/10/2010

Unfortunately, this store sells puppy mill dogs, usually from MO, KS, OKL, among others. Puppy mills are very cruel, and if you are unfamiliar with them I encourage you to look it up. No matter how cute the puppies are, buying from puppy mills is a sick practice and should never supported Cons: supports puppy mills more

Do not buy their puppies! 12/27/2008

About 3 years ago I bought a female puppy from this store. When I got her, she had kennel cough, round worm, giardia, and coccidia. The kennel cough and round worm were treated by Sunrise Pet Center's contract vets. The giardia and coccidia were discovered by my long-time vet. At approximately 9 months old, this puppy was diagnosed with a significant case of hip dysplaysia by my vet after I noticed that the puppy ran in an ""odd "" manner. \r \r I have researched my dog's background using the paperwork provided by Sunrise Pet Center and the internet. She comes from a puppy mill in Long Lane, Missouri, and was sent to California by the well-known puppy brokers/distrbutors at Tracy's K & J Pets in Fair Grove, Missouri. Her pedigree reflects several known puppy mills, including one that routinely auctions its puppies at large puppy auctions.\r \r I have been in the store several times since then and the ""puppy sources"" (for their puppies ) are states that are typically known for puppy mills, Kansas, Missouri, etc. more

Not a good store to buy from. 10/4/2008

I can personally say that Sunrise Pet Center DOES in fact buy from puppy mills. I can say this because I have worked there and the amount of dogs they buy that come in sick, is incredible. What they don't tell you is that the puppy may have come in with giardia, coccidia, kennel cough, or a variety of different illnesses. They do not inform the customer that the dog has been sick, or treated. They have sold puppies that were treated with parvo and did not disclose it to the customer. The dogs have been known to be in-bred as well. I know this because I have seen the pedigree's and have seen how some are in-bred over a dozen times. Having quite a lot of experience working there, it is heartbreaking to know what these puppies have been through. If you buy, ask if the puppy has been treated for any sickness, especially parvo. It is just as easy to go to an ACTUAL LOCAL breeder and buy a dog where you can see the Sire and Dame on site, and pick from the litter. Instead of purchasing a puppy that came from Kansas. BUYER BEWARE! Save your money and your heart and buy from one you trust. more

I love my dog! 8/3/2008

I bought my families first dog from Sunrise pet center in March. His name is gizmo and we LOVE him. He was a lover from the get go and was very comfortable with people. He has been healthy and happy since day one. They are a little spendy, you could do better going to a breader direct. Pros: cute dogs, and tons of choices Cons: high prices more

Sunrise Pet Center in Fair Oaks 3/28/2008

I purchased a guinea pig at Sunrise Pet Center on 2/8/08 in a large pen playing with many other guinea pigs. She was reportedly 5 weeks old, cute, furry, squeaky and we loved her. We named her Daphne. She bonded quickly to our family. We gave her tons of attention and she was a joy to have.\r After having her for two weeks, her breathing became labored. There were no signs of infection and the problem became increasingly worse. I took her to a vet that specializes in exotic animals. After an exam and xrays, the diagnosis was that she was pregnant with two babies. They were large and growing enough to be hopelessly pressing on her tiny frame while compressing her lungs and heart.. At her young age, she was not able to adequately grow and develop while supporting the growth and development of two babies at the same time. The prognosis was guarded. The vet and I were shocked that a business would be irresponsible enough to place a baby guinea pig in a cage with males.\r Despite following the nutritional and medication instructions for her, the odds were insurmountable. She became increasingly short of breath and too weak to eat adequately. On 3/26/08, she delivered stillborn babies. Her hind legs became paralyzed during the delivery and she died the next day. The experience was heartwrenching. We buried her in our garden.\r A pet store is responsible to supply customers with the joyous experience of a healthy pet that they can love and take into their hearts and homes. This includes at the VERY MINIMUM, avoiding irresponsible reproduction.\r My expenses were over $200.00 and all I got for it was heartache. I also now need time to regroup before getting another animal.. This should never have happened.\r I would not recommend this pet store to anyone.\r Incidently, I understand that Petco guards against irresponsible reproduction in it's animals and uses breeders that do the same. Wish I had known this two months ago... Pros: the staff were nice during the purchase and called the manager to find out the age of the guinea pig Cons: Poor breeding practices undisclosed to the consumer. Unhealthy animal at purchase. more

Think twice 1/19/2008

I do not recommend this business. When I called to ask them about information that they were suppose to give me, a girl made comments that I could clearly hear on the phone about me. She was very rude and should not be in customer service. (Or at least put the phone on HOLD) The puppies are over priced. If you are looking for a puppy go to a breeder. more
