Excellent neighborhood veterinarian 3/1/2011

I have taken my dog Lucy to Sunnyside Veterinary Hospital since moving to Clackamas 6 years ago. I also took a very old cat that I inherited when my dad died. My pets have received excellent care, Dr. Sherman has provided great counsel on issues related to pet health and habits, and the staff is friendly and helpful. more

Difficult to deal with 4/17/2010

We have had our dogs seen at Sunnyside Vet for 8 years now. Dr. Haverman has usually been nice and attentive, although he is recently on a strong kick to sell the dog food he has in his lobby. He pressured me quite hard the last time I saw him to have bladder stone surgery on my very geriatric dog because ""the stones are large"". He told me that without the surgery the dog would die a painful death passing a stone. Actually, the stones are large and therefore unlikely to pass. He's had them all of his life. When it became clear that I was uninterested in the surgery, Dr. H. walked out and was done with us. Dr. Sherman won't assist in lifting my service dog onto the table. She told me that if I couldn't lift the dog I had no business owning it. HELLO! I'm disabled! That's why I have a large service dog! Our older dog has had chronic skin conditions since we began seeing them at Sunnyside. Several times a year it results in a bacterial infection. We finally found a prescription for an antibiotic that doesn't make him ill, but it costs $150 for a prescription. We just can't afford that plus the cost of the office visit. All of a sudden, now that we have found the answer to the problem, Dr. has to see the dog each time his skin acts up AND they won't fill an online prescription that might make us able to afford the office call. Our older dog won't be with us much longer, I suspect the $3,000 we spent on him in the last several years there wasn't enough to keep them happy. We also have a 3 year old and a puppy. That's a good 10 more years of veterinary service they could have from us for everything from end of life care to puppy well visits. We'll find a vet that cares more about our dog's health than their bottom line. We won't be back. Pros: Location Cons: In it for the money, not for our pets more
