Nice boardwalk! 9/26/2005

A great place to get a little exercise in a nice beach setting. Beach is a bit rocky, wear sandals! The boardwalk has convenient markers to let you know how far you walk or jog and you will have plenty of company - not too crowded but not too desolate either. Make sure you spray some bug repellant before you go! more

Love Sunken Meadow 8/9/2005

I really love Sunken Meadow park - it's not as crowded as Jones Beach, so you have more elbow room. Kids love to ride their bikes and I love to stroll up & down the boardwalk or just bring a beach chair, sit, relax, read a book or watch the kids play. It's a nice park for a family outing too. The kids love when we all bring our bikes and ride together. I'd definitely chose Sunken Meadow over Jones. Also if you live in Eastern Suffolk County, Sunken Meadow is a whole lot closer than Jones Beach is! more

An underrated choice for LI beaches. 8/9/2005

Sunken Meadow State Park, located at the northern terminus of Sunken Meadow Parkway north of NY 25A in Kings Park, is an underrated choice. It may be less beautiful or popular as Jones Beach, but if you don't want the crowds, this is a good choice. However, Smith Point County Park in Mastic Beach, Robert Moses State Park in Bay Shore/West Islip or Heckscher State Park in East Islip are better choices. more
