I love Strictly Feathers 2/8/2011

It is with great disappointment I'am responding to your comments. I would'nt usually spend time answering something like your negative comments. However I know first hand your negative comments are far from the truth. I have purchased birds from Strictly Feathers. They are healthy and beautiful. The birds in the store are cared for with love and compassion. I know for a fact the birds have fresh food and water every day,and clean cages. As far as Gwen being nasty thats just not so. You need to look up the meaning of the word nasty. I also have witnessed Gwen help many people that come to her store with sick birds that did'nt come from her store,. Gwen will always answer questions and educate you on how to care for your bird. Also let me add if Gwen does'nt feel the bird will be placed in the right home Gwen would'nt sell the bird. Your comments are mean spirited and uncalled for. Maybe you havn't heard the old saying. If you don't have something good to say don't say it a more

UNPROFESSIONAL 1/23/2011

I have only been to Strictly Feathers a few times, but that is enough to know I will NEVER buy anything (and certainly NOT A BIRD) from them again. My first visit was to buy owner-recommended OTC meds for one of my birds. I had to return this medicine because my AVIAN vet told me it was dangerous to use pet store meds. Upon returning this item, the owner haughtily told me that she would never take her birds to an avian vet. She may know a lot about birds, but not as much as an avian veterinarian. I feel sorry for any birds that get sick in her care. This must be a constant issue for them since store appearance and maintenance is NOT a high priority. It is the size of a single-wide trailer, cramped, cluttered, and dusty. I sincerely hope that all their birds are young and have not gotten their adult feathers because none of the birds for sale have lustrous, vibrant plumage. All the larger birds are in cages that are so cramped that they cannot easily turn around. Lastly, the staff is hi more

Strickly Feathers 1/11/2011

First of all someone who is going to write a review they should be able to spell. Now with that said I bought a bird from Gwen and we have become (NOT WERE) very good friends. I even take my bird back for what I call ?field trips? because she is so great with him. All her birds are very healthy and content. I call Gwen the bird lady, as this seems to be her calling. With that being said Strictly Feathers is a great place for anyone who is interested in purchasing a bird. I have called Gwen numerous times asking questions and she has always answered them. She has always assured me to call anytime. People with a personal problem should keep them to their selves. GO GWEN, GO GWEN, GO GWEN! more

Very Unkind! 11/9/2010

I have been in Strictly Feathers many times too, and Gwen is a very NASTY, RUDE PERSON!! She talks down to you like you know nothing, this is NOT how you run a business. My perants always told me to kind to people, and treat others as you want to be treated, a smile always go a long. I'm sure the birds can also sense her unkindness, personally I have never seen her talk or interact with the birds. As for the ones that responded on how nice Gwen is they must be special or Gwen must be have a good day. Even the little old lady that works in the back of the store never says ANYTHING! I do not believe its because she not kind. We all go through trials in our life that can wear us down, and even change our spirit. But a place of business IS NOT WHERE WE SHOULD BRING OUR PROBLEMS. Gewn is really an attactive woman, but she needs to put a SMILE ON HER FACE also speak to her CUSTOMERS with KINDNESS! I'm sorry; I just really don't like when people treat ANYONE UNKIND! I have a BIG HEART and it more

Strictly Feathers- A Great Place For Birds!!! 6/6/2010

Strictly Feathers is an outstanding place for birds. The staff is nice, and helpful, and Gwen, the owner, is great with the birds. If Gwen herself does not greet you at the door , then she is most likely talking to a customer, feeding the baby birds, or helping an employee. I bought a lovebird there about a year ago, and she's so lively, and healthy, and i am soon getting a cockatiel there. I persuade yu to go here, all birds are healthy, good pricing, and a good home. Gwen sells many types of birds from, parakeets, to cockatiels, to exotic birds you see at the zoo!! She aso sells cages, bird toys, and food & supplies. It is deffinetly a 5 star store! It may be small on the outside bu when you walk in you are in another world!! I EXTREMELY recomend going there to buy a bird, cages,or just bird supplies! more

I have been in this store many times and have witnessed the owner, Gwen being very rude to her customers and to her employees. She even told me on one occassion not to listen to what her employees say because she is the only one that knows everything about birds. Why does she have employees working with birds if they don't know about them? I have thought about purchasing a bird but everytime I am in there it is like she does not have time to help me. I have since purchased a bird through a local breeder/vet and have been well pleased with the openness and availablity for questions. I have also read numerous articles and books that recommend that you give your birds at least 8 hours of uninterrupted darkness for sleep. The only birds that suffer from night frights are the cockatiels and then you should only have a night light for them. Not total light. I also have seen a huge reduction in her inventory and toy selection. more

some facts about birds 2/22/2010

I have read the reviews and praises about Gwen and the staff at Strickly Feathers. I agree totally with all the reviews but 2. I've know Gwen, but just for 2 years now. I met her through a friend of mine who has a bird and sent me there to see about getting a bird for my daughter (10). Let me tell you how it really is, J.H. who wrote a bad review, JH don't know about birds cause if they did, they would know the lights have to be left on, not for security but because some birds have night frights and if its dark in the business they could hurt or even kill themselves trying to fly in the dark from being scared from just a dream they had. The lights being on keeps them calm, safely caged and they sleep just fine, go in sometime and look around you'll see, I'm sure you'll see 1 or 2 a napping. Now for Jennifer G. review, if you go in, first thing you do is read the signs of warning and rules about the birds, some of the birds do bite, but most don't because they have been hand raised an more

I feel a little sorry for the birds....... 9/26/2009

I've been in the store a few times and the owner has always seemed a little peculiar but usually helpful. I have driven by many times after they close and they always have the lights on. I don't see how the birds get any sleep! It must be really unnatural for them. I realize that it must be a security issue but it seems there could be some alternative, at least cover the cages. Also, I'm not sure exactly where they get their birds but it's always good to inquire if a store imports live birds from other countries. This is usually a horrible practice and ends up killing 1,000s of birds that are taken from there natural habitat and shipped 1,000s of miles to America. Always best to buy captive bred local birds. more

Awesome Business - Definately Reccomend!!! 9/12/2009

I went to Strictly Feathers to ""adopt"" a pet cockatiel. This is a really great store...they have so many beautiful birds and they are all healthy and happy! Gwen is so helpful and really cares about her birds. She wants to make sure that you get the bird that is right for you and she really knows what she is talking about. I will never go to a ""regular"" pet store again!!!! Pros: Very Helpful and Knowledgeable Cons: None! more

Strictly Feathers is A great place to get a bird if ur ready 7/16/2009

I really like Strictly Feathers. I had a female cockatiel from there. She sadly died 5 years ago from a bacterial infection. I was devastated, as I had a lot of control over everything and completely bird proofed my house. I don't think a bird is the right pet for most people. You can't use your non stick cooking surfaces, including things like waffle irons and anything with a nonstick coating. Birds require a LOT of care. My cockatiel was VERY hard to care for and she was constantly letting me know she was mad about something. You need to look at a list of toxic substances and throw them all out. To be honest, some birds may like children, but not most, especially youn g children. I would strongly recommend NOT getting a bird if you have small children, if you're unwilling to bird proof your home, or are not able to spend hours a day with your bird. They are birds, not goldfish. A lot goes into their diet and care, and their minds have to be stimulated very often. They also NEED time more

Strictly Feathers is THE BEST! 7/1/2009

Three yrs ago I decided to get a bird, I went to Gwens shop and she was a wealth of information, educated me on my different choices. I went with a conure for my first bird, since then I have also adopted a senegal and an african grey from Gwen. Gwen and her staff are always helpful, caring, and patient with my frequent concerns-im an overprotective parrot mom! lol Anyone considering a parrot should go to Strictly feathers! Fantastic service, friendly, informative, supportive, and the birds are healthy, happy and a real joy! I continue to frequent Gwens shop as I do not buy my parrot food anywhere but there, same with toys-I learned through a big scare not to buy toys at petsmart and other chains--those chain stores don't care about the safety of their bird toys-Gwen does! more

Strictly Freathers is a haven of knowlege, and the very best 4/13/2009

counseling and advice that you will ever get concerning your bird.\r If you are lucky enough to take one of Gwen's supremely wonderful\r companion birds, you will have a friends for life, both with Gwen\r and your pet. Knoxville would be so much less with out Strictly\r Feather, and the avian food that is there is always fresh and of the \r highest quality.\r I wish that everyone could take a virtual tour of her store, to prepare themselves for the wonder that lays beyond the doors\r of her wonder store. Gwen is gracious and helpful, as well as her staff, and it is one place not to be missed! more

Strictly Feathers - Knoxville's Best 1/14/2009

I purchased Cowboy & Cricket (2) cockatiels in Feb, 2001 or 2002. Her birds are healthy, happy and they chose me. Her supplies and pricing is great and quality is high. Recently I had to remove them from my home and when Gwen was asked for help to find a new home, she volunteered to keep them free of charge. I called Gwen and explained I could not bring them back home to please adopt them out, she told me she was going to keep them herself. My experience with Strictly Feathers has been the best ever. She really cares about her animals and customers. Thanks again Gwen. Elaine Boatner, Knoxville, TN. more

This place is awesome!! I would not ever by a bird again from any other pet store besides strictly feathers. Gwen and staff are great! They are so knowledgeable. I was a first time bird owner and new nothing what so ever about birds and gwen has taught me everything I know.If you ever get a chance just stop by strictly feathers and say hi to gwen and all of the little feathered friends because those birds are a hoot. more

honest service 9/3/2008

thanks to gwen at your store, I KEPT FROM MAKING A BIG MISTAKE. My 11 year old son really wanted a parakeet but Gwen told me when we came by that because of his asthma a bird would not be the best pet for him. This fact was also confirmed by our physician. I can,t tell you how grateful I am to have not found out this information the hard way and breaking my sons heart in the process. Thanks for your help . I would recommend your store to anyone who is interested in finding out if a bird is the right pet for them. thanks again, susan more

The BEST Bird Store 8/29/2008

Strictly Feathers is the absolute best place to learn to care for, love, and buy your pet bird! I have been a customer there for years and usually go in the store at least once a week to visit the wonderful birds and talk to their caring owner, Gwen. She is fantastic! She is always attentive and considerate to my many questions and concerns regarding my birds. I purchased 2 cockatiels and 1 lovebird from Strictly Feathers. These birds are the healthiest birds you will find anywhere and it's all because of Gwen's expertise and knowledge of all exotic birds. I would never buy seed or other bird items from anyone else because Strictly Feathers carries only the best products at a very reasonable price. If you are thinking about purchasing a pet bird, please visit Gwen and I believe you will find the quality and price are unbeatable!! more

Strictly Feathers: Second to NONE!!!! 8/28/2008

I have been a regular customer of Strictly Feathers for years. They have a very courteous, knowledgable and friendly staff that are always very helpful and friendly. I was so shocked to see the negative review given by Jennifer below. I have known Gwen for years and have had hundreds of opportunities to witness the way she conducts her business. I am in the store at least twice a month and have never, ever seen or heard her treat anyone like that review portrays her treating a customer. When you walk in Strictly Feathers you are always greeted with a warm hello. If not by Gwen herself who could be in the back, hand feeding babies, or busy with a customer at the other end of the store, then by one of the numerous parrots mimicing her voice after hearing her greet her customers with a cheerful and friendly hello. Gwen is a very friendly and personable, yet responsible and professional business owner and breeder. I have even seen her response to children and teens who are poking their fin more

Loyal, Long Time Customer Recommends Strictly Feathers 8/23/2008

I have been a customer at Strictly Feathers since the day it opened! At that time I had a cockatiel, and was surprised to see how much better "Matilda" felt when I gave her the fresh seeds from Strictly Feathers. Gwen and Roy Woodard became my friends over the years as I purchased food, supplies and nine more birds from parakeets, to Sun Conures, to an African Grey and a Cockatoo. Gwen and Roy advised me on all aspects of my bird family, and I always was made welcome at the store. Since Roy's passing away, Gwen has carried on the business with the same emphasis on love of birds and customer support. Strictly Feathers is my favorite store because the staff is knowledgeable and friendly; the birds are beautiful and healthy; supplies are abundant and fresh, and I am treated like family there. It is most likely the best bird in the southeast! Highly recommend it to anyone who loves birds. more

I was suprised 7/29/2008

The first time I entered the store there was only one other customer and 3 women working. I hung out for at least 15 minutes and was never approached by anyone who worked there, so I left. I waited a few hours and returned only to hear the owner (Gwen) yell at an employee which I'm sure made her feel stupid in front of me. She then came over to me and reprimanded me as if I were a child. I felt very foolish as she talked condescending toward me. She was very rude and it seemed as if she was on a power trip. Why would an owner of a store act that way? Very poor customer service... I will tell everyone I know that they should look elsewhere when considering buying a bird... more
