Found a new favorite! 3/5/2012

Just had to pass along the good deals and good times I've been getting from Stone Horse. Been going for lunch there frequently the last several months and honestly can say I've gotten both good food and good service. There is nothing quite like a four dollar roll and some of the house brewed icd tea. The sushi chefs are very friendly and the sashimi is extremely fresh, would not want to make that experience a thing to miss. more

Great food, poor service 11/14/2011

The food was excellent as always. I've been in a few times and have never had a problem with service before. One young lady was awfully rude to my husband and I and made one of our favorite places a place we won't be visiting much anymore. Enjoy the food but beware of the service. Brittany M. Made the experience quite dreadful, even though the food was superb as always. more

Great food and service. 9/20/2010

What can I say? The food is always great and the service is prompt and friendly. I don't know about the other reviewers, but I've never had any problems here. Also, the edamame and the California rolls are especially delicious. more

Our choice for weekly business lunch 2/8/2010

My personal favorite is the Miso glazed Sea Bass, cooked to perfection. They also cook my edamame a little longer just to my liking. The service is always good and the wait staff knows our special requests. I love the special touch of communication through emails announcing events, specials and occasional discounts that Chaz the catering manager sends to us. I recommend getting on their email list. You won't be disappointed! Pros: The best sea bass in town more

Never Disappointed... 2/7/2010

My wife and I have dined at this restaurant now for going on 2 years. In this time we have never been disappointed with the food, service or ambiance. Peter and his staff are always extremely attentive and full of great suggestions. Recently we decided to celebrate my wife's birthday there and left the entire menu in the hands of the chef. I can only say it was a culinary experience that happens very rarely and I have travelled the world (4 years in Asia and 27 years in Europe). I would like to again extend our appreciation of a job well done. I would rate this restaurant on a par with Alan Wong in Honolulu, Hawaii or Tantris and Aubergine in Munich, Germany. Pros: Sushi and So Much More more

New sushi fan... 2/7/2010

I have never been all that excited about sushi in the past but I have to say Stone Horse turned me into a fan last night. Everything was wonderful from the moment we were welcomed at the door to the time we said goodbye. The waiter educated us about Sushi by suggesting some basic rolls then letting us feel comfortabe enough to be a bit more daring after. We had so much fun I am going back for certain. Stone Horse made a fan out of this Good 'Ol Boy. Pros: Food and server more

Great place for Sushi 2/3/2010

Last month, me and about 8 of my friends went out after our monthly movie night and discovered this hidden secret Stone Horse. The service was impeccable and the food was to die for! With a large parties as we had, we expected a delay in service but this was not the case. The servers were very prompt and updated us of dishes coming out. Overall we had a very memorable experience and recommend this place to everyone. Pros: fresh and delicious Cons: So many people, that it was hard to secure a table more

Taste is great! 2/2/2010

I went Stone Horse last Saturday and had a wonderful time. I enjoyed excellent Sushi and Sashimi. The Sashimi was fresh and delicious; Volcano roll was awesome. Pros: Best price more

So bad it could be legend 1/18/2010

I tried the sushi special this evening, based on some of the reviews here. ""Eek! Methinks not."" sums it up well, and the sushi was far from fresh or appealing. What particularly ruined the evening was overhearing the manager speaking to a customer the table over. She was an older Asian lady, possibly not quite fluent in English, and I have never ever heard a restaurant employee go so far out of their way to alienate their customers for less cause, which quite frankly ruined my own appetite. Others who have previously commented on the service here are absolutely correct, the badness of it approaches the legendary. Pros: stone horsey in front Cons: spectacularly bad customer service, Eek! Methinks not. more

Worst Dining Experience of my life! 1/17/2010

These is without a doubt the WORST dining experience I have had in my 34 years. I came here with my spouse hoping to get some fresh sushi, if perhaps poor service based on prior reviews here. The fish came with a putrid scent slightly reminding of a cross between rotten eggs and onions. The waiter himself was very courteous and apologetic, but the manager refused to redeem the money, saying that the sushi was fine. I am reporting this place to the health inspector and the BBB. There is absolutely no way this place should continue as an ongoing concern. Save your stomach and pocketbook, and take your business elsewhere.? Cons: putrid food, horrible service more

Bad Sushi - Poor Service 1/16/2010

After reviewing a review on Citysearch I immediatey changed our dinner plans to visit the Stone Horse in hopes of finding a new restaruant to add to our list. Our entire party was very disappointed and none of us will ever visit again.\r \r Upon arrival we had a glass of wine at the bar while waiting for our dinner guests to arrive. I paid for the first two glasses and the bar tender mention the price was only $6.00 because it was happy hour. After sampling another wine, she informed us it was not included in happy hour, so we asked for a second glass of the house wine assuming it was still happy hour. She presented the bill and it was now $20. My wife signed the check and in pushing the folder back, accidentally knocked over one glass of wine. The manager and bar tender quicly clean up and went about their business. When I finally pulled out my credit card and asked for a refill did the bar tender offer to replace the drink. I have never been in an establishment that did not immediately replace a spilled drink at no charge.\r \r Once we were seated the waiter knew little about the menu items. He also had never seen the video on this site so he could not tell us what we saw, which is why we changed our plans. We asked the manager and she did not know either. After we placed our order our waiter never returned to fill our drinks. I finally had to ask another waiter to get us a glass of wine. Two of our guests ordered hot tea and were never offered a refill. The sushi finally arrived it was without question the worst sushi I have ever eaten. My son mentioned that the all you can eat sushi buffet he and his college roommates frequent was better than Stone Horse, and I agree. Finally the waiter showed up as ask what we ordered to drink. With the inattentive waiter and the bad sushi, I ask for the check. We could not get out of there fast enough. Even left some sushi on the plate.\r \r After paying the check we immediately left for Sushi Sake, just down the road, to resume our evening of Sushi.\r \r Many people have written they like this place so I suggest you try it and decide for yourself. Pros: There are better sushi restaurants Cons: Sushi is bad and so is service more

Great Sushi!!! 11/4/2009

They have the best Volcano roll in the city! The crawfish are fat and tender. The rainbow roll is enough to share and mouth watering. \r And there desserts are really fantastic and have a wonderful color eye appeal1\r \r P.S. They have a new general manager and you can noticably see he is in command and has great southern charme to boot! Pros: Best Volcano & Rainbow Roll more

a surprise 10/5/2009

good food, fast service, priced right\r \r I was seeing a play at UTD and just happened to stop at the Stone Horse for a quick bite. I didn't expect much but was happy to find a really good sushi place by accident. They seemed to really care about the service and offered a great menu. for $20.00 I got some wonderful fried dumplings that came to hot a tasty followed by a California roll with crab meat plus a very nice steak done to my request on a bed or mashed potatos and to top the meal fresh creme brule(sic). I will be going back. Pros: exceptional service and food Cons: its not closer to my home more

New management 9/10/2009

New management is on board who knows what is the restaurant supposed to be. He has elevated to a next level for this place! Pros: Sushi, Specials, Group events, Theme night more

Ruined Father's Day 6/22/2009

My children and I took their Father to Stone Horse on Father's Day and we couldn't have been more disappointed. The waitress was unable to answer many of our questions regarding menu items and ingredients and then when the food arrived it was very dissapointing. The mackerel was tough and did not taste fresh and although I did not ask, I believe that they use ""krab"" in their rolls. What is that stuff anyway? For the price we paid (over $120. for 4) I would expect real crab to be used. I never write bad reviews but this was such a huge disappointment that I had to write. No cars in the parking lot on a holiday should have been a hint to me. I had heard they have a great experience for lunch but I will never know for myself because I won't be going back. Pros: Nice Atmosphere Cons: Food and Service more

Great all around!!! 7/23/2008

I recently moved to the Richardson area and I'm a huge fan of sushi so began my search for a nice sushi restaurant. Luckily, my friends recommended Stone Horse Bistro. My first experience was absolutely amazing! \r \r First , the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant are very stylish. The hostess was very nice and escorted my girlfriend and I to our table. The hostess even communicated to us our server's name and that he would be with us momentarily, which I thought was very nice. \r \r My server was prompt and very knowledgeable about sushi and the restaurant's menu. As my girlfriend and I have never been to Stone Horse, I asked my server for several recommendations, which he was more than happy to assist us with. I went with the servers recommendations and was quit pleased. The sushi was fresh and absolutely amazing!!! \r \r Stone Horse will definitely be a sushi restaurant that I'll be a familiar face at. If you haven't been there you're missing out and you won't be disappointed. I highly recommend Stone Horse!!! Pros: Service, food quality, presentation, atmosphere more

What a RUDE waitress! 6/17/2008

I have been working in the area for about 6 months, and I finally ventured into this place for lunch with 2 co-workers. Things started to go downhill as soon as we were trying to place our order. They offer 2 for 1 sushi for lunch, but do not dare ask a question about what qualifies for the ""special"". The waitress was extrememly rude and talked to me like I had never seen a piece of fish in my life. Among other menu items, we wanted 1 order of sushi and the free order that came with it. So after a long discussion with the waitress, we asked for 2 orders... makes sense right? WRONG! The food came, we ate, and then the bill arrived. We were charged for 2 orders of sushi instead of one. When I asked the waitress about it, she said we ordered two and the ""free"" sushi came with it automatically. She argued (very heavily) with me that she explained this to us when we were ordering, but she most certainly had not! We ended up having to pay for both orders. I felt like I had been duped. On top of everything else, we asked for change in order to leave a tip. She actually had the gall to come back with 2 $10 bills as change on a $40 tab... as if there were any way I would leave that much money for the horribly rude service she had given. When we asked for $5's and $1's she seemed offended, and very reluctantly got the change. I will NEVER step foot back in that restaurant, and this lady has absolutely no business in any kind of waitressing or service job! My advice to you about whether or not to go? DON'T BOTHER! Pros: The food was decent Cons: The service made the entire experience horrible more

Be Warned: They Close At 2p and Re-open at 5p 11/5/2007

There was a time when I would have provided a stellar review of Stonehorse, but that all changed on 10/26. I used to frequent Stone Horse no less than once a week, so everyone there knows me and I work quite nearby. Well, on 10/26 I met my husband for a late lunch (2p). I arrived before him and ordered a little nibble - then I received quite an education on how deliberately poor the service at Stonehorse can be.\r \r The server was quite pushy and urged me to place orders for the both of us in spite of the fact that my husband had not arrived. She cautioned that the kitchen closes at 2p and all are anxious to get home and take a break before the place reopens at 5p. Well, I had no idea. And I certainly wouldn't have chosen Stone Horse for lunch that day had I known. Well, things only got worse. The service staff started hovering around our table (even after my husband arrived) and we felt so uncomfortable we ate less than half our food to give the servers back their restaurant.\r \r The Stonehorse manager became aware of the poor service, but did nothing. He didn't tell the crows to give us more space and he didn't discount our meal. He allowed their abrasive and inappropriate behavior to continue. What's wrong with that picture? \r \r Now, I've told friends and acquaintances about this event. I also declined invitations to Stonehorse and steered groups to other locations. The service staff's behavior that afternoon was just inexcusable. And remember, I was in there all the time before this incident! Lunch, dinner, happy hour. I'd given them entirely too much of my discretionary income to be treated so poorly - closing at 2 p or not!!!! Whew!!\r \r Pros: Great memories of the Salmon Bento Box before 10/16 Cons: The wait staff - pushy, abrasive, insincere and impatient more

Stone Horse is Best Restaurant 10/9/2007

I can not say enough good things about Stone Horse located in Richardson. You wouldn't expect to find such an upscale restaurant in Richardson. It's the kind of place you would normally need to go to Uptown to find. The atmosphere is very elegant yet hip but not stuffy or snooty. The service is AMAZING and the food is even better. Everything I have tried on their menu so far passes all expectations and do not leave without trying their mango cheesecake. Even if you do not like sushi, there are plenty of other Asain dishes to chose from that do not dissapoint. If you are ever in the area, or not, it's worth the drive! Pros: the food, sevice and atmosphere more
