SL tries to touch all the bases of American BBQ. This is a lofty goal as there are so many different variations, not to mention regions of American Cue. SL doesn't really do any one particularly well, but they also don't do a bad job at them all. Most CueJoints I've been to try to focus on one and do it well- not always accompishing the goal. At the very least SL tries and tries hard.\r

Apps- Fried Green Tomato doesn't make the grade, they are sliced too thin and fried too deeply. Fried Pickles also miss the mark as they are clearly not fresh pickles, speared and fried too deeply. Catfish fingers, suprisingly tender and good- though surely frozen. The dipping sauces for all of these apps are pretty good too.\r

Cue- Pulled pork is done right and is probably the best thing on the menu. Chicken is ok, but seems like ordinary rottiserie chicken that you could get anywhere. Brisket, no good- dry, plain with very little taste. Ribs, decent and meaty, but not tender or flavorful as though they are just a vehicle for the overslathering of sauce that SL (as well as many CueJoints) has succumbed to.\r

Sides- Mac/Cheese is VERY good, crispy/chrunch on top while gooey inside (maybe the best item on the menu). Greens, soggy and overcooked lacks the bitter bite of good collards. Sweet potato fries are over sugar/cinnamoned, which takes away from the fact that they are perfectly fried and should be left to stand on their own natural flavor. slaw/po-salad, standard issue jarred stuff (actually goes well with the Cue). Beans- plain.\r

So, why the Recommended Rating???\r

Sauces- Carolina Clipper (mustard based), this sauce captures the spirit of the true south. Sassy, tangy, smooth and sweet. Few places north of the Mason Dixon serve- let alone know about, yellow BBQ. This sauce keeps me coming back. Its GOOD.\r
Cherry Bomb Brown is what most people consider BBQ sauce, just a better version of it. \r

Ask for your ribs nakid and sauce as you like, and you are in for a treat.
Pros: Sauce, Sauce, Mac/Cheese
Cons: Over-sauced (ask for it nakid)
