I have been a client of Steven's since 1995. I originally went to him for color, expecting to leave with some shade of blonde, since I had been blonde as a kid and young teenager. However, he flipped through several shade books, consulted a co-worker, and came back to me pointing to a red. The rest is history. I have had many passing strangers compliment my ""naturally"" red curly, long hair. Sometimes I say, ""thank you"" and walk away, and sometimes I say, ""Steven Sobel on Maple Street."" \r
I will never let any one else cut my hair, because Steven truly understands the challenges of naturally wavy and curly hair...he has it himself! He never cuts my hair too short or in a fashion that will not work with my natural kinks. \r
The atmosphere is sleek but casual and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. You may be greeted by Midnight (the gentle giant), grab a few Tootsie Rolls at the counter for some sugar, and select from a variety of reading materials near the comfy couches. There's an awesome back porch outside where you can hang out while your color or highlights set. \r
The clientele is of all ages, some men but mostly women, Uptown socialites and working women from the suburbs. The cost seems to be about average for a high-quality salon, but in other places the ""penalty"" for having long hair seems way out of whack.\r
As a hard-working, two-job-having Metairie woman, I do have to budget for my visits...but every visit is a treat and Steven is worth every penny.
Pros: Being greeted by Midnight
Cons: Being overly dependent on Steven
