Starving Students Movers

I recently contracted to have a rental truck loaded in Seattle and unloaded in Sacramento. The Seattle Movers damaged two antique furniture pieces; a cedar chest and an antique dresser. Both were pushed on their wheels into door jams and legs were torn off. I was able to repair the dresser, but I do not have wood clamps long enough to repair the cedar chest. The is a family heirloom, made by my great uncle for my Grandmother. I will either have to purchase 4 Foot wood champs or have the piece professionally repaired. Other than that the load arrived in Sacramento without problem. None of the other property had shifted causing any damage. \r \r Fast Forward to Monday Presidents Day when we were to unload.\r \r Their crew arrived 45 minutes late. I called to see if they were even still going to show up. When they arrived, the driver immediately started a rant about not having a place to park and demanded I ask the apartment management where he could park. The office was closed on Presidents Day so I couldn't. \r \r There is a large municipal parking lot just north of the park across the street from the complex. Cheap at $10/day and both my girlfriend and I offered to pay for it. Please note because it was Presidents Day, the lot was half empty. Their driver said that wasn't an option.\r \r Then, as I pointed out to their driver and as pictures taken on my girlfriends phone clearly showed:\r \r Behind the complex, there was ample parking on the street, i.e. a number of places where there were two contiguous spaces able to handle a truck.\r \r Nothing we suggested would work for him! Is it really their policy as a residential moving company not to park anywhere but in a commercial loading zone? That was what we were told. How many homes are able to accomodate that? Please note I had been parking a 20 Foot UHaul in the Street both in Sacramento and in Seattle for days without a problem.\r \r In any case, after about a half hour of trying to come up with a solution, he snidely blew us off and left. \r \r Shortly after their driver left, we discovered that there was a large commercial loading zone behind the complex just across and down the street a bit that they could have used. Had they driven around the block even once to look they would have seen all of these options.\r \r It was obvious to us that they were just done working for the day when they arrived. \r \r I called and spoke to the Supervisor after they left. By then it was 3:30 in the afternoon on a holiday and I was not able to arrange for another moving crew from Starving Students or anyone else. Shawn and I finally agreed he would provide me another crew the following day. Frankly, I can't believe they employ drivers with such an unprofessional attitude and work ethic. \r \r This unnecessary delay has been expensive for me:\r \r Extra day for the UHaul $40 plus tax.\r Change of return airline departure $75.00\r Extra day of boarding dog $25.00\r Lost day of work $150.00 plus lost commissions\r Furniture Repair $Unknown\r \r I emailed this information to their customer service group with no response!\r \r DON'T USE THEM!!! more

Pay the extra money to hire a 'Professional' company. They will move you faster so even if the hourly rate is higher, you will still save money because you won't be paying for as many hours.\r \r I was quoted 4-5 hour move by most companies and since this one was the cheapest I went with them. It took over 9 HOURS!!!! So it ended up costing me more AND I lost out on 4 hours of unpacking on the day of the move.\r \r The movers didn’t move a single item in the first 30 minutes of our move. \r One of the movers was slow as molasses walking up and down the stairs.\r He wasn’t able to move our mattress (one of the biggest reasons we hired movers was so we wouldn’t have to move the heavy stuff ourselves)\r When the truck was half full he started complaining that it would take us two trips.\r He cost me additional hours of work b/c of the 2 trips and his overall laziness.\r When unloading at our new house, he was in the truck folding blankets and rolling up straps instead of moving our items.\r \r Moving is stressful and expensive. SS Movers let me down by costing me more time and money than was necessary. I will not be recommending to friends nor personally using Starving Students again. Buyer Beware! more

Two fellows showed up promptly at 8:45 AM. Both were polite and professional and worked quickly and efficiently to get our stuff moved carefully. But better than that, it was Thursday when my husband and I decided we were not going to move our stuff ourselves on Saturday. I didn't think anyone would be able to take us. I asked friends for recommendations. I got three for Starving Students, nothing else. That made it easy. I called and was able to set something up for 2 days later. If I ever have to move again (*fingers crossed that doesn't happen*), Starving Students will be my only choice. more

Everything went well. The cost was high, but I hope most of that money went to the young men who worked so hard to move us. more

The movers were friendly and efficient, and moved a one bedroom apartment full of furniture in 2.5 hours. I packed all of the boxes, so the time was just for actual moving. I handled the lighter boxes myself and used Starving Students to move the extra heavy stuff and big furniture. All items arrived in the new house without any damage or breakage.The total price was a little lower since I moved on a Sunday, as suggested by the phone operator when I called to make the reservation. Overall, it was a good experience for my small move. I wouldn't hesitate to use Starving Students again, it was money well spent. more

The guys were great from my first phone call to the last item moved. I hope everyone remembers to TIP your movers. I hope never to move again, but if the need arises, Starving Students will be my first call. Thank you so very much. Laura more

Like I said, both young men were VERY professional. I have used Starving Student twice in the past and did not bother to call any other service.I was suppose to move in the afternoon, but there was a cancellation, so they came earlier. They were both excellent. They worked every minute and made my move much less stressful. They were both VERY, VERY efficient. I cannot say enough about how happy I am about chosing to use Starving Students again. I have told many people at work that I used Starving Students. Your prices are very competitive and I believe I was charged fairly. more

The gentlemen that moved me were helpful. They put the furniture where we needed it and if I didn't like it they moved it again. Positive attitude, Gave me great service. Won't post on yelp. Am computer klutz. more

Overall I was happy with the move. I was moving from an upstairs condo into a 2 story house, so there were tons of stairs all day, and the guys handled them well. I felt a little more care could have been taken with my furniture and with my condo. They did protect the stairs since my new place had new floors and paint. more

I could not believe the care and concern of our movers Eric and Marion. They treated our personal items as if they were their own. They wrapped the mattress and couch in heavy plastic to avoid dirt and as a nurse I really appreciated that. Also considering they were being paid on an hourly basis you might worry that they would ""move slowly"" but this crew really worked at a fast pace which we appreciated. It took all of the worry and frustration out of our move! more

The three movers worked exceptionally fast and were very helpful,pleasant and efficient. Everything arrived unbroken. The actual move took longer than expected because of the distance to the weighing station. more
