This is an excellent Indian restaurant. The food is authentic and well prepared. I noticed the negative reviews on this website, and it seems like someone who has never been to this restaurant is just writing nonsense about it. The chicken tikka masala is amazing, the naan is great, and good saag. They always have a fresh salad, good chai and a decent variety at the lunch buffet. Pros: Good food, fast buffet service at lunch. more

I don't understand where all the hate is coming from--bland 3/23/2008

Okay, first off, I have to set the record straight: The food here is not bland, and is actually very good. Take this from someone who loves Indian food and has easten in multiple places in her lifetime. In fact, I think this may be the best Indian food I've tasted in Sonoma County. Sizzling Tandoor is NOT good anymore--it's southern Indian food, and what that means is every dish has a tomato based sauce and is scorching hot--not much variation there. Star of India on the other hand is savory, spiced just right, and the basmati is always cooked to perfection. Not only are the bad reviews unwarranted, but they are so negative, that it leaves me wondering. Pros: Consistently good Indian food. Cons: Can't think of any more

Terrible - food completely without taste 11/23/2007

?Below average? doesn?t even begin to describe this place. Nor does ?bland?. The food had no taste. It literally tasted of nothing. Possibly the worst Indian meal I?ve ever had. Not worst because it tasted bad, or made me ill. But worst in that it tasted of nothing - and certainly not Indian. And jobay is right ? that unnatural red color of the Tikka Masalla was strange ? in fact I believe it had to have come out of a tin. I could cook better myself. Terrible. Pros: None I can think of Cons: Food Terrible more

Will do in a pinch 10/11/2007

It's not really all that authentic, dsepite being family-owned. For instance there is an iceburg lettuce salad that's automatically delivered with lunch. On the other hand, the curries are reasonable, though maybe not as good as Sizzling Tandoor in Santa Rosa or the place in Strawberry, whaever it's called. Simple, VERY VERY CHEAP Indian food. Pros: Ridiculously cheap Cons: Not exciting cooking, but still, CHEAP! more

Well, all I can say is that if you are really craving Indian food -Star of India will do- but only since there is no other Indian restaurants in Petaluma. The chicken tikka masala is the strangest color I have seen this dish done in- and totally distracts from the taste (which is bad enough). For Indian food- this restaurant is bland. Naan is smaller than I have seen at any other Indian restaurant. The only real thing I can recommend are the samosas- and I believe you only get two for about $10.... For a family of four it will cost around $50- $60-minimum. Petaluma really needs another Indian restaurant... Cons: bland, expensive more
