Fabulous Doctor and Wonderul Office 10/7/2010

We have been going to see Dr. Smith at the 29th Avenue Animal Hospital for the past 4 years and only have a 2 ½ year old dog, Duke. Even before we even got Duke as a puppy, we would go to her for advice on what type of dog would be best for us as a family and that shows me, she not only cares for Duke, but our whole family. Also, she encouraged us to train Duke well so that he would listen to me as well as my children so that he would obey, not jump and especially not run away when being called for.\r \r Her office has always been wonderful and has been able to get Duke in and out ASAP. Even when he ate something that got stuck in his intestines and he needed to spend the whole day at the office getting an IV, the office encouraged me to come and see him as much as I wanted. She kept me well informed on what was going on while Duke was in her care and also checked up on him after he came home later that day. Dr. Smith not only performs routine tests and is able to see our dog as soon as possible if something were to occur and the whole office does it with such care and love. After every check-up, the office will call to make sure that Duke is doing well and genuinely cares if he is. \r \r I love Duke so very much and wouldn’t imagine not taking him anywhere besides Dr. Michele Smith’s office at 29th Avenue Animal Hospital for his check-ups and any other medical needs. Also, I would recommend anyone and everyone else to go check her out!\r \r \r more

Careless Vet 6/23/2010

I've been telling people for over a year not to go to 29th Avenue Animal Hospital located in Stapleton. Dr. Smith, the owner (a Stapleton Resident), is very careless when it comes to how her practice is run. My dog was diagnosed with cancer...3 months later she told me he no longer had cancer and decided to take cut back his meds. She did say that she needed Alameda East to confirm. Seven days went by with no response. I called each day. So, I sent a very curt email requesting his records be sent to our new vet. I heard back from her at this point. \r \r However, I'd already made the decision to change vets (Tender Touch Animal Hospital in Denver is wonderful!). My new vet, Dr. Graff, sent us to the oncology dept. VRCC, another great hospital. The oncologist confirmed he had advanced stages of cancer. He was taking prednisone to shrink the tumors. The oncologist was shocked at the dosage he was taking. She said their livers cannot handle doses that high.\r \r Yes, he did have cancer that is fact. No vet could change that. However, the way the situation was handled was very poor. As a vet you are dealing with humans emotions as well. For many of us these furry creatures are like our children and we need to feel that the vet cares. \r \r Dr. Michele Smith does not seem to really care about the animals in her care. It seems to be about making money. I have no confidence in her ability as a vet. She is the only vet in Stapleton and this needs to change. Cons: Poor care, too expensive, poor response time, carelessness more

Worst Vet in Denver Kills my Dog 6/18/2010

Care To Share With Friends?\r 29th Avenue Animal Hospital\r 7305 E 29th Avenue\r Denver, CO 80238\r (303) 394-3937\r \r 6/18/2010 \r My dog of 7.5 years, RUBY, died today due to the negligence of the staff and vet Michele Smith at 29th Avenue Animal Hospital in Stapleton. You would never imagine a tragedy like taking your dog to the vet for symptoms of diarheea and vomiting and for your dog to be hit by a car and killed while she is the care of the vet. Ruby was dropped off around 8:30am on Thursday, June 17th at the 29th Ave Animal Hosptial and two hours later she was hit by a car on I-70 and killed. The kennel they put her in the back of the vet had a broken latch, so she could get out of the door. With an IV in her arm and an Eliabethan collar on her head, she pushed the broken latch open and got out. A vet tech pushed the back door open, which was only two feet from her kennel, and Ruby got out. No one could catch her. She made it to I-70 and got struck by a car. Yes, my dog went to the vet for a bacterial infection and got hit and killed by a car. DON'T take your dog to this vet. They have broken kennels and the health, safety, and security of your pets are not their top priority, making money is. Not only was she killed, but I spent $642 three days earlier for tests and medicine that was not properly diagnosed. Michele Smith has one objective and that is making money. Steer clear of this vet, she is arrogant and negligent and my dog is dead because of her carelessness. \r Cons: Negligent and Too expensive more
