There are many healthcare providers working at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital that like their jobs and are good at them. There are others that seem to be going through the motions, much like any other job. Our stay was actually in the main part of the hospital where the air conditioning was being worked on. The hospital had large temporary ducts from the ceiling blowing cool air. These were very loud, and often if babies were left alone for a few minutes while their parents got something to eat, et cetera, the nurses were unable to hear the child crying. After one infant had been crying for what seemed a very prolonged period of time, my husband went and told one of the nursing staff. They advised us that shift change had recently happened and they would be able to check the rooms in a little while. I chose not to leave my child alone at any time due to this attitude. Also, the admission office came to our room requesting our insurance copay be paid right then when we were not to be discharged for at least a couple of more days. Our insurance copay is a percentage of the covered amount, so this seemed very inappropriate. The truely excellent staff make up for the inferior ones and the rudeness of some of the office staff.
