Top Vets 3/23/2010

I have been taking my (6) cats to Dr. Bauml for the past 7 years. He is the best. :) Every Vet there including all the staff are wonderful, caring, compassionate and dedicated to helping all animals. I won't trust my pets to any other clinic.\r \r Hopefully, someday I will be in the position to donate money to this clinic and keep this wonderful place number one in San Antonio forever. :) :) Pros: Everything they do for your animals is first class. Cons: Wish they were open 24/7 more

Great Vets! 3/18/2010

I have been going to St. Francis for about a year and I have never had them try to ""up sale"" anything! So that is shocking to hear. They are a tiny bit expensive, but very comprable to other vets. I am always able to get in quick and never have to wait long when i have an appointment. The staff is really warm and makes you feel comfortable. Pros: The Staff Cons: nothing more

High staff turnover 2/28/2010

I was going to St Francis for a couple of years. It seemed everytime I was there, one of the vet's had left, until finally, only Dr Holab was still there of the ones there when I started. I had not ever been to Dr Holab and the vet I was seeing, who I liked very much was gone. I was concerned with two other vets leaving also, so decided to leave St Francis.\r There prices are very high btw. Pros: Nice facility, good location Cons: Price, turnover rate more

Watch out. 1/15/2009

We adopted a dog from the pound. He was very ill for about a month. We first took him in because he would cough at night. The doctor said it was kennel cough. He got worse once we finished his medicine for that. He had snot coming out of his nose and his eyes. He wouldn't eat or drink. A different doctor said it was distemper and wanted to put him down. He already had his shots so we weren't sure if it really was. The doctor did say there was a chance that he could get better. Our dog had symptoms of distemper, but I couldn't bear to put him down. I was feeding him through a syringe for about a week. It was a very difficult time for me. We ultimately took him to the pound to have him put down, but we requested that they do everything for him that they could before they put him down. They gave him a nebulizer treatment, and gave him IV penicillin. That night he was a happy puppy. He was eating and drinking. As it turns out, the kennel cough gave him pneumonia. I do not fault the doctor for thinking it was distemper, but I don't think he considered the fact that it might have been something else, and he didn't urge us to try everything else. Our puppy is a year old, and is perfectly healthy. We still go there for their preventive care, and the staff is friendly. more

The Vets here are awsome! 1/8/2009

I complain that this vet is a little on the high side and I do not like the presumptive up sale. However, you get what you pay for. I rescue dogs and try to keep the cost down so I have tried several other vets . The service to my pets and to myself is far better at St. Francis then all the other vets I have gone to. They are always ready to fit you in, the wait time in the office is short, and most of all they treat the dogs I bring in with care & love! Watch out for the up sale. You will find yourself checking out with all these medications that were not previously discussed, needed or not. At that point it is just you and the person checking you out so I end up just paying and worrying about it later. Pros: LOVING & CARING STAFF Cons: UP-SALE more

Caring, Giving People 4/8/2008

I work with a local German Shepherd Resuce group. A beautiful purebred young male German Shepherd was brought to this clinic.......they did EVERYTHING to him, vaccinations, heartworm testing, neutering, EVERYTHING........and then placed him with our rescue group......He has since been adopted to a wonderful, loving home where he is the star of the show!! None of this would have been possible without the caring people of St. Francis of Assisi, and we are forever grateful. Thank You from the Bottom of our Hearts..............and I know Bear ""Thanks"" you too.\r I will recommend you to ANYBODY I know on that side of town who is looking for a caring vet hospital. more

Highly Recommended Vet. Clinic 12/15/2007

I have been going to St. Francis-Assisi for 6 years. I have ALWAYS had wonderful service by the vets and the tech's. I have used their boarding services also through the years and have had nothing but great service. The front staff is very pleasant and helpful. I very rarely had to wait more than a 10 minutes past an appointment time in all of the times that I have been there. When my pet cat was put to sleep a few years ago, the compassion and caring shown by all the staff made it much easier for me (I had her for 17 years). I highly recommend this clinic! Pros: Attentive staff, great vets and tech. Cons: Wish they were open longer on Saturday! more

MYSAVETDOTCOM 11/13/2007

Ok, here goes, my experinces here, well i can start with, i started going there due to they were the only available vets to see my wounded dog at the time. my dog got mauled by some pitbulls back years ago. so i went there and they took by pet to the back and started treatments ASAP. Dr. Holub, Dr. Bauml, and all the great vet techs there were helping me and calming me down so i can understand what to expect and what i can do to help.. nevertheless Missy (my dog, toy poodle) survived the all the bites and lacerations on her..with the doctors there to help me treat at home and follow-ups, We got her all better. she is now 8 and i have 3 other dogs now and cats. I love these people. i know the staff has changed thur the years but the service and helpfulness has always been there. I know guys sometimes it's a pain in the butt to wait in a waiting room for 10, 20, 30 min but you have to think. these great doctors are treating each and every patient w/ care and thoughtfulness every single time they walk in the room. Just remember they are doctors, just like if we were to go to human doctor we wait a long time too.. I love this place..GUYS!!! Pros: Everything, from boarding, lastest info on pets, to call backs from a actual Doctor not a staff member. Cons: They are not open everyday lol more

NUMBER 1 VETS IN SAN ANTONIO 11/12/2007

My pets love this palce!! I have taken my dogs and cats to other vets and my pets seem to be freaked out just as soon as I walk in the door. Here they welcome the pets and take the time to not scare my pets and make friends so my pets don't mind going. The clinic is always clean and doesn't smell bad like some vets I have been to. I was even given a tour of the back when I first came by to check out the clinic, the clinic is great, they seem really up on all the new technology which makes me feel great about them seeing my pets. I have seen all the doctors and they all are very caring and tender with my babies and the receptionists know me and all my pets by name. I have been going there for over 5 years now and won't go anywhere else. The costs are no more then any vets I have been to and they do almost everything there so its well worth any costs for my pets to be healthy. The doctors and techs are really good about calling me back when I have questions and make sure I get the information I need. Over all I give them 5 stars and they are worth every penny I have and will spend for their services. Number 1 vets in San Antonio!!! Pros: My pets feel safe and are happy to be there more

Caring staff makes me purrr.... 11/10/2007

This is my first review so I hope this helps. Overall, this hospital seems to be above average in quality of service for the price and cleanliness. Once I had to wait 15 minutes for my appointment so the tech asked if I minded seeing a different vet that wasn't busy at the moment, which I did end up seeing. You can almost always get an appointment the same day if you have to and the doctors are really good about returning phone calls. The best thing about the doctors and staff is they seem to really care about my cats and are always sweet to them, and the early morning drop-offs and pick up after work are perfect for me. Pros: caring doctors and staff Cons: no emergency service more

Rude staff, bad service 10/2/2007

I started taking my pets to this clinic b/c it seemed like a clean clinic and it was close to my house. My first couple of visits were ok, but each visit progressively got worse. I should have stopped going there sooner, but one of my dogs became terminally ill and it was such a hassle to get him started with a new vet, so I continued to only go there for prescription refills. The receptionists are rude. They have no manners. With the number of pets I have, I made quite a few visits to the clinic...enough where they should remember me as a good paying customer (avg visit was $150-$200). Yet each time I went in, they acted as if they had never seen me before and had no idea who my pets were. I have spent a lot of money at that clinic (be careful, they are expensive compared to other vets in the area and they try to upsell you on everything (services and products)), so I didn't appreciate how rude the staff was. There are a couple vet techs and employees who work at the boarding kennel that are friendly, but for the most part, I was not impressed with the staff or services. They also tend to overbook their appointments. One time I waited 1.5 hrs for the vet to see me. I came to my appt on time and was put into a room w/in 5 mins of my arrival, but waited another 1.5 hrs for the vet to come in and tell me my dog had a rash-the vet spent 5 mins with me. The vet tech that helped me kept apologizing and even complained about how bad their service was. I highly recommend not to take your pet there. It's not worth the wait, the treatment or the money!! Pros: clean facility Cons: rude staff, bad service, over priced more

Couldn't ask for a better vet 6/7/2006

Dr Holub has been taking care of our pets for the past 5-6 years. We've never been happier with a vet. It's easy to see that he really likes and cares about animals - he takes his time with them, goes out of his way to calm them and reassure them, handles them gently and calls them by name - and he's sensitive to the different personalities of our pets. We've never felt rushed or like just another number \r \r He takes a personal interest in our pets and has gone out of his way to help us when we've had an emergency or a sick animal. We had a very sick animal a few years ago - nothing seemed to help him. Dr Holub didn't give up until he found out what was wrong - I know he spent a lot of time researching the symptoms and consulting with other vets. \r \r I would recommend him very, very highly to anyone that's looking for a good vet. You won't be disappointed.\r \r more
