I go out to eat a lot and let me tell you that for breakfast they have fantastic omelettes!! The chicken tender melt is delicious and the fries are great. The servers are ok, but...

We have been occasional patrons of the St. Clair Broiler and have always enjoyed the food. The fish fry is good and the burgers better than most. The big draw on our recent vis...

Death of a Neighborhood Classic 10/27/2015

As a decades long loyal customer of the Broiler, it has been sad to witness the decline of this neighborhood institution. The fabulous neon sign sign remains an icon of restaurant Americana, alas, its classic diner menu has been eviscerated. The interior is clean, the decor is fine and the service is friendly. However, the new owners apparently think the tastes of its longtime loyal customers are too mundane. No more Spartan omelet, tuna melt, chefs salad, club sandwich or barbecue bacon cheeseburger. Even if you think you have found something you like on the Broiler's new 'upscale' menu, there is no guarantee that it will be the same way twice. In the past, I often picked up dinner after a long day at work. The first time I tried the Asian salad I thought I had found a new favorite. The second time it was all soba noodles and no greens. Last night I called in a takeout order for the same salad, mentioned my previous experience and asked for more greens and less noodles. When I opened the container at home I found an abundance of greens but ZERO noodles -- wait, I'm wrong -- there were TWO(2) soba noodles at the bottom of the salad. Ha ha. The chef took his revenge. I recognize the humor but the deliberate insult motivated this obituary. You couldn't pay me to go back. more

Malts~Need I Say More??!! 12/29/2005

I LOVE the Malts here~They are so thick and they give you the Silver Shaker Glass that they make them in too!! I always have a Cheesburger and Onion Rings and never eat it all! The food is all freshly made there and the wait staff is friendly and pretty attentive. It is a big enought place to meet people without a problem and they also have a great kids menu!! more

I expected real cheese and fresh mushrooms! 9/22/2005

It's true that I like to have a burger here every now and then, but why do they have to use processed cheese and canned mushrooms? Still, the charco-flavor almost makes up for that. Just make sure you don't get one of the older waitresses. I once waited 15 minutes for her to take my order. The malts are good, and they have a fee-free cash machine inside. more

what a gem! 9/14/2005

Living two blocks from this great food joint is phenomenal. For students and working people alike this place offers great food at reasonable price points. My personal favorites are the burgers and shakes! If you are in the mac-groveland area be sure to stop in for a great meal, st. clair and snelling! more

Good Little Resturant 8/18/2005

The St Clair Broiler is a great shop. The burgers are fantastic, so are the shakes. And apparently they have famous liver and onions, but I am not brave enough to try it. Whenever my parents visit they want to go to eat at the Saint Clair Broiler. It's one of the best places for breakfast as well, won a few awards for breakfast. more

Good food, nice atmosphere 8/18/2005

The St. Clair Broiler, located on the corner of St. Clair and Snelling in St. Paul, has become a popular restaurant for area residents, especially students at Macalester College. Their omelettes are excellent, and the rest of their food is pretty good, too. Overall, the Broiler isn't too expensive, but it all really depends on what you order. more
