A very nice hotel in a busy area, you'd never know it was there. 3/30/2008

We recently stayed at the Sportsman's Lodge for the first time and had a wonderful time. Our room had a patio area where we could sit in the mornings and sip coffee and read the paper (delivered to our door) and enjoy the sunshine. We had breakfast included and it was very nice. The staff that cleaned our room did a great job. We have NO complaints. It was a great place to stay and we will stay there again/ Pros: Clean, good service and a good value more

Terrible. Just absolutely terrible. 6/16/2007

Driving by, I'd often wondered what lie within the bizarrely out-of-place looking structure that is the Sportsmen?s Lodge at the corner of Ventura and Coldwater Canyon. One day a coupon for dinner arrived in my mailbox mysteriously, like a golden ticket to Willie Wonka's chocolate factory and I must admit I was intrigued. We entered into an eerie quiet as we were escorted into the dining room amid a handful of what appeared to be elderly regulars. This didn't feel like Studio City. The table had not been set up as someone sat us in the corner booth. We waited patiently in uncomfortable silence for the table to be set up and menus to arrive. After what felt like an eternity of being the only couple in the room under 80, and many attempts to get the waiter's attention, we requested to be moved to a table in the room out by the bar with the TVs. The waiter seemed confused, but we were soon seated at an empty table in an almost empty room in front of a 1980 Hitachi 50"" big screen, blaring static at 120 decibels. We sat in bemusement waiting for someone, anyone, to acknowledge that nothing was on the TV but snow and it was REALLY loud. A waitress showed up, and we received silverware, napkins and menus. We ordered a steak that tasted like the Marie Callender meal I make in my microwave on special occasions. Still, no one mentioned the TV. When the food arrived I said, 'Excuse me do think you could do something about the TV?' She said ?oh.. um? okay,? and returned 10 minutes later as we were finishing, having apparently found a misplaced remote control. We swiftly presented our coupon and nervously made our way to the door. Why didn't we just leave sooner you may ask? I don't know. Maybe for the same reason one remains in the theater to finish watching the scariest movie they've ever seen. This was not Studio City. This was the Twilight Zone. Pros: Had tables and chairs. Cons: Everybody there is insane. more

Horrible service and food 1/29/2007

Went there for dinner tonight. The food had to be sent back because it was under cooked. How hard is it to cook pizza? The staff was extremely rude and they manager steve was unhelpful. He was a snob. Nice location but awful management and staff. Sauna the bartender was extremely rude and it toke 20 minutes to get services. I will never ever go back. Pros: Nice location Cons: Rude staff and Manager. Waiting 20 minutes to get serviced more

Absolutely horrible service - Extremely Rude Servers - Horrible food 1/15/2007

I went to dinner at the Sportsmans and had to wait for someone to sit us for 10 minutes then the water ingored us. The food finally came and was raw so we had to send it back. Then they over charged are bill by $3.00. I will never ever go back. Rude people and bad people. more

Nice Sunday brunch stop 3/8/2006

We haven't dined here on their regular menu yet, but we enjoyed their Sunday champagne brunch. The dining room was crowded the day we were there, and they were holding a wedding reception in one of the rooms off the dining room. It was very busy that day. The staff was more than accomodating, offering my husband (a tall, large man) a comfortable chair, and they were often at our table filling beverages. The buffet menu was pretty standard fare for the LA area. The eggs benedict were very good, better than our ""usual"" Sunday brunch restaurant. The dessert table had a nice selection of bite size items -- allowing you to try 2 or 3 different items without making yourself sick. It was also nice that we had a window seat view of the swans paddling around the pond. Overall, we'd go back again. Pros: valet service, friendly staff Cons: crowded dining room more

Cool place. 8/17/2005

Im a local, and this place rocks. Although its ugly, the food is amazing. Their kds menu is good, their New York steak rocks, and their pasta, ravioli, chinese chicken salad, and just about everything else is delicious. A total bargain for the prices. The food tastes homemade, and the pecan pie and apple cobbler are great. You and your kids will enjoy this place. And the waiters are incredibly friendly. Pros: good food, inexpensive, friendly staff Cons: bad decor more

Great For Sunday Brunch 3/10/2005

My husband and I drive over 20 miles to come here for brunch. It's hard to believe Sportsman's Lodge is on two busy streets. Once you're on the property it's like being in a different world. Little streams connect ponds stocked with beautiful black swans and plenty of fish. Rooms are glass from floor to ceiling so you can enjoy the lush surroundings. The food is very good, plentiful, and there's something for everyone. I always have a custom omelette made. Lox and bagels are abundant as are over a dozen hot dishes and lots of fresh fruit. The staff is quick to replenish food. There's a separate niche for all the desserts. Wisely, most are in small portions so you don't feel guilty about sampling several. At the tables, wait staff is quick to offer freshly squeezed orange juice, coffee, and champagne. It's always a pleasant treat. Pros: Great Seeting, Variety Of Good Food, Good Service Cons: Can Be Crowded more
