Splash! An Ocean Grill

If you are looking for fine dining, this is not it. This is very average hotel/motel dining room fare. I like the Zagat guide and have used it to choose many restaurants all over the country. I give Splash a Zagat 12. Splash would drown, if located in Manhattan.\r \r Based on positive comments by others, I gave Splash three chances to produce good food. Each time, I felt that the food was mediocre at best, overpriced at least.\r \r The first and third attempts were standard fish plates, the second attempt was a Lobster stew special. The food was not cooked or seasoned very well and the quality of the fish was maybe passable. More importantly, each time I felt I could have done a better job at home - the exact opposite experience I seek when eating out.\r \r All of this while charging fine dining amounts. $30+ for average, bland fish? Not once, but three times? No thanks.\r \r To top it off, we had service issues each time. Nobody was rude or anything like that. But, the waiters always forgot one or two things and had to be reminded. The third time, the waitress lost our Groupon, the bill came at full price and I had to walk around to find someone to take care of the problem.\r \r Come on .... more

Awesome food and service at lunch today but the urinal doesn't flush and neither motion activated paper towel rack was functioning more

Ate here on a Wed afternon and had the burger special for $5. The burger was excellent! Would recommend this establishment to everyone! more

I love this place. The wait staff knows how to please, the food is fantastic, and the owner is a gem. \r \r We spend the winter months here in Lutz and we eat at Splash as often as possible. \r \r You get what you pay for and at Splash you never feel cheated. We had dinner there tonight,12-13 and the waitress we had was fantastic, the risotto is to die for as well as the crab cakes I enjoyed. \r \r You miss going to Splash and it`s your loss. \r \r Don`t change a thing guys, you have got everything dialed in to perfection -- IMO!!! more

I was so looking forward to a great meal, but I was really disappointed. My Husband's tilapia was so fishy we could't take more than 1 bite. It had to be rotten. My shrimp and scallops was undercooked and horrible. We literally ate 1 bite and couldn't eat more. The waitress didn't even notice. She was clearly having a bad night because she was being short and rude. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The one thing that was nice was that the manager came by to ask how the meal tasted. Unfortunately we chose not to tell the truth. That was our mistake. more

Splash is great! Love the owner, service, and crowd. If you want real fine dining, splash is the place to go! more

While my wife and I did enjoy our entrees, there were two disappointing aspects to our second (and probably last) visit to Splash. We made our second visit to celebrate my birthday, having been incentivized by a $20 birthday discount coupon that we received in the mail. Upon receiving our bill, we noted that there was an unexpected $10 “op gratuity” that was mandatory. This, combined with our normal 20% tip made for an expensive end to the meal and, in reality, reduced our $20 birthday discount to $10. Secondly, we tried a featured wine at $10 per glass only to find out later that a full bottle sold locally for $6. Good food does not make up for price gouging and hidden fees. Sorry Splash, but you left a bad taste in our mouths. more

We always enjoy a visit to Splash. Every dinner has been terrific. Rissotto of the Day is outstanding. Have not had a bad meal there. Manager is friendly, service is professional. We highly recommend. more

Myself,my husband and my grandaughters visited this restaurant July 30 th. It was our last day of our vacation. My girls wanted to eat clams and the restaurant did not have clams in the menu. I believe it was the owner who came over to our table and was extremely friendly with the girls and ask them what they want to eat and they both said clams. He said you want clams you got it. I don't know where he got the clams but he served the girls clams and pasta. The girls love the clams and we were very happy . I couldn't believe he was so great as to go farr and beyond to please the girls. The waitress was extremely friendly and the service was great. The food was delicious. If I ever go back to Tampa I will definitely visit this restaurant again. \r \r \r Boston, Ma. Pros: friendly employees more

My husand and I have been eating lunch at Spash every other Friday for a couple years. Food and service have always been great. Love that lobster bisque. Delicious fish, fantastic desserts , great service what more could we ask for. Pros: Great bread and great Service Cons: None to date more

My husband and I have been to Splash! many times and it is always consistently very good, each and every time we are there! \r We were just there on Saturday evening with friends. We had the Flat Bread of the day, which was wonderful! The lobster bisque was some of the best I've ever had, as well. The scallops were very fresh and cooked perfectly! If you aren't in the mood for fish, try one of their steaks or pasta dishes.\r Oh...did I mention their current promotion...the Bottomless Glass of Wine? Fantastic! We are delighted to have a super restaurant close to home that takes reservations! Dinners are great with specialties every night - love the flatbreads. The newly introduced ""stimulus"" meals and appetizers are out of the ordinary. Brunch with the Brooklyn Benedict - gravalox to die - for is a favorite. May 9, 2009 was our 3rd time at Splash. Obviously, we have good memories of the place or we wouldn't keep going back. But it's quality is very uneven, very unpredictable. Superb dinner rolls yet truly tasteless and bad Caesar Salad. I sent it back without finishing it. Tasting Caesar Salads all over the world is one of my hobbies. I can't remember a worse one than this. The Chilean Sea Bass in miso broth, on the other hand, was absolutely superb. A beautifully crafted broth that is perfectly matched to the mild, delicate taste of this fish. My wife had Cioppino that doesn't even deserve the name. I doubt that the chef has ever even had Cioppino before because he/she doesn't have a clue what it should taste or look like. Give Splash a try, but consider it as a trip to the casino. You may get lucky or you may strikeout. Oyster Catcher's is a much safer, if much more expensive, bet. Bonefish Grill is similarly priced but has much more consistent quality. Pros: Nice waist staff, some dishes are truly excellent Cons: Some dishes are truly BAD, located in never-never land more

The sirloin is an incredible value every day, but on Thursday it's a $10.00 Stimulus Special. And the Oscar sauce makes it even more mouth-watering. Salad was served on icy plates with a subtly delicious vinaigrette. The grilled cedar-plank salmon tastes Seattle-fresh, and the Granny Smith apple dessert. . . .mmmmmm.\r Julie, our server, was inconspicuously attentive to every detail. Great anniversary!
