Best Italian in nj 1/5/2009

I LOVE this place! I love Italian food and Spano's is the best. The ambiance is really cool, especially if you get a booth. It's got a tin roof and great music, and the food is amazing. The calamari is the best I've ever had, I don't know what they do to make it so good, but it's tender and delicious and comes out on this huge platter. You get so much food here, all the portions are huge, you get enough to take home and eat it again the next day. The Flounder Oreganata is my favorite, it's so good. The Chicken Parm is great, I think it's the sauce. Spano's sauce is the best I've ever had. Always leave room for dessert. They make their own tiramisu and it's delicious. They also make a homemade ricotta cheesecake which is great too. Pros: Delicious food, huge portions, great ambience Cons: parking on Sat night, you have to walk from the lots across the street, There's always a wait in the summer more

Really great food! Busy Sat. nights 4/2/2008

We visited spanos on a very busy night, the atmosphere was very little Italy, I had the clams casino, very tasty, my husband had the mussels, he loved them. Our entress were huge. my husband had the sea bass and I had the shrimp over linguini, it was very, very good. The service was ok, our waitress was a loud mouth little women with dark hair that had no problem yelling at the other help in front of the guests. Her voice could break glass! Not good, Not professional. Other than that everything was great. We did not have dessert we were to full. Great little town as well Pros: great food large portions Cons: wait time, but worth the wait more

Spano's at the White Sands 10/29/2005

We visited the alternative location for Spanos, as the Arnold Ave location is often packed on Saturday nights. The upstairs location is a romantically decorated, small room with bar. The piano player accompanied with appropriate music throughout our dinner. We started with the cold antipasto, average. The bread was too airy and dry for my taste. The house salad was sloppy, but the balsamic dressing was good. I had the Spagettinti Carbonara, which was perfect. My husband had the Chicken Ala Carmell which he enjoyed. Both portions were HUGE. The dessert was my favorite, Tartufo and cappuccino which were both divine! The service was very good..not pushy, nicely timed and knowledgeable. Pros: Good Value for the $$, Good Service, Great Desserts more
