Best

Great selection of fresh product and perfectly executed dishes.

Yes, it is in Beverly Hills, and you see celebrities, but you'd better have three hours to spare for lunch. The food looks real elegant, but the taste is average. And the waiters ...

Best Service! 1/13/2008

This place never fails to amaze me. They have a great patio in the middle of the restaurant which is a great place to have lunch in the summer time. Even in the winter it is heated and very pleasent. I had the Viel this past time I went and it was just fabulous! Tender, and full of flavor. Spagos is by far one of my favorite restaurants in California! Pros: Great Food Cons: make reservations more

I've had better meals for less $$ 1/5/2008

Sure, the location is great, and it's a good enough looking place- but Spago is more about prior quality (like in the mid 1990's) and fame. The service was alright when I went, not as bad as some others say their's was,in the servers defense it has to be difficult to be a server if the restaraunt you're working for is extremely busy and perhaps a little under-staffed. I wouldn't reccomend the food- it was alright, but just that--only alright. Pros: Quick valet parking, service was OK Cons: Food is overated and overpriced! more

Uneven service, mediocre food 8/24/2007

I was part of a party of four dining at Spago on a Monday night. The place was packed, but it usually is so that does not excuse the uneven service and indifferent food. Though we were seated promptly we were ignored for the first ten minutes at the table. Drink orders took a quarter-hour to arrive. We had to flag down the waiter repeatedly. One of us ordered sparkling water but the server kept pouring it into all our glasses. We finally took the waiter aside and expressed our dissatisfaction, after which his attentiveness improved somewhat and, to his credit, he did not become surly. I ordered a risotto appetizer. The rice was overcooked and the tomato sauce had the sharp umami taste of canned Spaghettios. I sent it back and ordered a seared tuna which was neither offensive nor pleasant as it lacked any identifiable taste. Of four main courses three were disappointing, lacking taste. Whoever was on the pass that night was not vetting the outgoing dishes carefully, since presentation was poor and at least one dish lacked a promised item. While the setting (we were in the ""outside"" courtyard) was lovely and the crowd and bustle were not intrusive, the effort it took for us to complete this meal and the absence of spectacular food detracted from any fine-dining experience we might have anticipated. I travel constantly and have eaten meals everywhere from Spoon in Hong Kong to a cave in Libya. There are many better places to spend the money a meal at Spago commands. Pros: Prompt seating, appealing dining area, see and be seen Cons: Mediocre food, good service has to be demanded more

Spago, Beverly Hills 7/26/2007

On July 11, 2007 I was in Beverly Hills for a very important occasion and was looking forward to a memorable evening. I knew the company would be sublime and I wanted a restaurant to match my romantic mood. I chose Wolfgang Puck's Spago. What a choice! It certainly made the evening memorable. Memorable for its absolute mediocrity. The young lady that greeted us at the door was delightful, that was the highlight of the evening; from there it plummeted to a barely tenable disinterest in us as customers of the restaurant. The waitress was rude and offhand; the server almost threw the plates on the table and once the plates stopped rattling the food they contained was as mediocre as it gets, not only in flavour but also in presentation. I travel the world and can commend restaurants in cities from Kyoto to Cape Town and from Budapest to Honolulu and I would never recommend Spago. If Spago was ever good then it is now resting on decayed laurels of faded glory and would probably be better being closed down. For those of you that are inquisitive; the lady I was with was truly wonderful and she also agreed that the restaurant was a disaster. Pros: cannot think of any!! Cons: rude staff; lousy service; very disappointing cuisine; way overpriced for what you get. You need to make reservations to get in; my advice don't make a reservation, go elsewhere!! more

Half Way There 6/5/2007

We have all heard of Wolfganag Puck and to be honest I had avoided going to Spago because I feared the ""lazy-famous restaurantuer"". I have eaten in fine, fair and extraordinary restaurants around the world. I call myself a ""foodie"", but the truth is, I just love a good meal. I have a theory, any great restaurant is 50% food and 50% everything else. The everything else includes; music, lighting, cleanliness, atmosphere, acoustics, service, you get the picture. I should also tell you that I have been using Citysearch and other search engines for years. I have cross referenced the reviews, I have read books and I have even gone on re-con missions before eating at a restaurant. This is my first time to write a user review. \r When I dine at a ""top"" restaurant, I usually order the tasting menu on my first visit. I do this because typically the ""chef"" is preparing the food, I get a broad idea of the range of food and I would love nothing more than to sit and eat for hours. Last night I ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings. The food was exceptional, the head server was knowledeable, well-dressed, and polite. The wine was decent, I did not feel that much thought was given to the ""pairing"". The courses had a wide range of flavor and the presentation was playful and eclectic. If we are judging by my thoery that food is 50%, I give this a 47/50. Pretty darn good. Now we have that other half, that I feel is equally important to the dining expereince and all I can say is dreadful. I will spare you the unfortunate details, but let me say this, if you like dining on fois gras and drinking champagne while listening to Pink Floyd, with bad lighting and a cold, noisy room then this is a great place to frequent. I hate to sound cady, but from an unclean bathroom , to ""rockin"" out all through dinner and an especially high bill, I was not impressed. I will call this ""Airport Chic"", if there were people walking by with boarding passes and luggage, I would not have been surprised. more

was highly expecting to be better since it is Spago 3/19/2007

I have been wanting to try out Spago for a long time. Finally, March 18, 2007 I went there for my birthday with my boyfriend. I do not suggest ordering the ORIGINAL VEAL ?WIENER SCHNITZEL, it was too oily and they did not fry it very good. I would recommend the SPICY BEEF GOULASH (it was not spicy at all). \r My boyfriend ordered the 12 layers flourless chocolate cake to surprise me, it was DELICIOUS. I thought it would be too heavy, but it was not. The cake came with a small scoop of chocolate sorbet and this was the best chocolate sorbet I had. I was surprise that I was able to finish it myself. Overall, I do suggest to go try out this restaurant if you have never been here. The desert have met my expectation, but not the courses. I think I would like to go back to try one of their duck dish. So far I had the best french duck at David Boulud in Las Vegas. Pros: Dessert more

Nothing to write home about 3/12/2007

We had dinner at Spago on 01-27-07. I'm a grad student and was writing a paper on Wolfgang Puck. Being an LA native and my husband from NYC, we expected something classic. I'm sorry to report that we've been to better restaurants all over the country. I appreciate that they sat us in a booth, but generally, the food did not distinguish itself. The famous salmon & cream cheese pizza is great; the walnut and olive breads also memorable, but considering what we ordered, that doesn't say much. The service was odd - not bad, but pretentious in an unclassy way. The hostess murmured a few words directing us to wait at the bar to be seated, swiftly looking down again. She failed to notice that we carried two heavy coats wet from the rain, while the coatrack stood directly behind her. Our waiter, who served an accomplished doctor and his wife, gave us the impression we were a slight bother, but that it was his magnanimous duty to serve us. We found him dull and uptight. The next evening we dined at Frito Misto - our neighborhood restaurant - and were quickly reminded of what makes us happy at a restaurant. For fine dining, I'd recommend The Little Door or Maestro's Steakhouse down the street from Spago. We don't feel that we're being unfair. It just failed big with us, when I'm sure others continue to have good experiences. Until ours wears off, we will stick with the subtle places that serve great food without the fuss. more

Spectacular food! 2/23/2007

I really enjoyed my evening at Spago. We sat in the courtyard area outside which had a very charming, relaxed atmosphere. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. The highlight though, was the amazing food! I started with some raw oysters that came with a tasty ginger sauce, and then had the venison. The venison was beautifully presented and came with roasted apple and berries, and a side of sweet potato sheppard's pie. My friends also loved their meals - the Thai scallops and roasted chicken with truffles. We had the ""kaiserschmarren"" for dessert, which is a souffle-like dish with roasted strawberries. Even though we were stuffed, we finished every last morsel of dessert. Well worth the price of admission! more

It's ok. Not as good as people claimed.... 1/19/2007

Been there, done that. Nothing too great. There were 5 of us and nothing really stand out to be spectacular. Service was not very impressed. The bussers and servers keep bumping to my chair's leg and they don't even say anything. It's not that great. Being charged that price, I think I would go somewhere else. I thought I'll have some sort of guranteed but hmmm...I was wrong. Go somewhere else. Pros: Good Ambiance Cons: Mediocre food, service (especially the bussers),Not as great as people has claimed. more

perfect all around 1/2/2007

this place rules. \r we went for my birthday, and yes, it's expensive, but you get your money's worth.\r great martinis - and wolfgang puck came around shook our hands and asked me about my martini, which was a fun little special treat.\r the food was fantastic, every little bite, including the bread -- all of it, spectacular.\r the only thing i'd change next time, is where we were seated. request out on the patio, or in a booth.\r more

Delicious, expensive food. 12/16/2006

That really says it all. I have to say, I had one of the top 5 gastronomic experiences of my life here. The tasting menu with wine pairings is an exorbitant $180, but when we rolled ourselves home we had the biggest smiles on our faces. I have to say, they did not, until recently, have a menu up online which I found truly obnoxious and pretentious. But, with that problem now fixed, I say, if you have the money, do dine here. If not, go to Nook, Pinot, or Campanile. When I'm lucky enough to dine here again, I'll better document the food, as it was tough to remember afterwards, what with all the wine... Pros: Absolutely delicious food. Cons: Price, outdated ambience, and a bit of a superiority complex. more

Quality, Class, Consideration 11/22/2006

Spago is the quintessential restaurant, providing you with an dining experience that includes Quality, Class and Consideration. Spago of Beverly Hills is one of the ultimate dining experiences. While you may find yourself tough out of luck to get a reservation these days, if you can, you'll find great food, progressive dishes, friendly service, and possibly a stop by and hello from Mr. Puck himself. \r \r Spago delivers a friendly atmosphere within a tank of entertainment sharks who dine there frequently. Outdoor seating and indoor seating is available, and the kitchen is made public by way of a glass wall. Words cannot provide justice to the extravagent dishes and aromas that hover throughout the restaurant. Spago is truly a gem and while luxurious, very welcoming and friendly. Spago is perfect for an ever lasting impression on a person that is very lucky for you take care of the bill. Puck ROCKS! 11/2/2006

This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is fantastic, and usually the service is superb. The pizzas are to die for, and last time I was there I had this sweet corn pasta, that was absoluetly delicious. Puck knows food, and I wish I could eat there everyday. The maitre de, there is so colorful and helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant for its food and wine. Pros: Everything more

Yum 11/1/2006

Great food, service okay depending on when you go. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite Los Angeles hot spots! more

Heftner is Masterful 10/29/2006

On the rare occasion that I've been to Spago, everything has been nearly perfect. The tasting menu is unbelievable and will provide you with more amazing food that you can possibly eat in one evening (the wine pairing is also excellent). Realistically, the one time I ordered the tasting menu, it was one of the 2 or 3 best meals I've ever had. Moreover, the service is always superb.\r \r The only thing keeping Spago from getting a 10 is the ambience, which is very good but not perfect. (This is mostly a limitation imposed by Spago's location in the middle of Beverly Hills, and not something that the management can improve very much). \r \r Overall, if you're willing to pay Spago's prices (which I don't think are exhorbitant at all for the quality of food and ingredients that you get), then it's tough to beat Spago in southern California. The prices are steep, and I'll list that as a con in this review, but I fully think the dining experience is worth the price (at least every once in a while). Pros: Potentially the best food in LA, Wonderful Service Cons: Expensive more

One of LA's BEST RESTAURANTS 10/4/2006

Spago is absolutely fantastic! The Tasting Menu is the way to go. Once you experience the combination of flavors you'll be hooked. Gourmet Mag rated Spago #4 in the USA in 06'. Pros: Fantastic Food Cons: Busy and Crowded most of the time more

and you call it divine food??? 9/2/2006

I've dined there on the 15th of august...my choice has been influenced by the high rates that made Spago the ""great spot"" in LA. Well...being a great fan of salmon I ordered a Brunch Pizza with Scrambled Eggs and Smoked Salmon. Being Italian I had a shock when I realized that the salmon (which was one of the few things I liked very much) was laying on a mixture of chopped onions and mayonnaise. To me all these dishes pretend to be elegant and sophisticated....at the same level of their consumers but they're just unmatching tastes!!!!! A kid can do such horrible matchings. I've not tried the whole menu, so probably can be something good. I speak as far as the pizza is concerned. \r The service is extremely good, no doubt about it but you pay pretty well that kind of service. \r I wouldn't recommend you Spago. The food isn't that special at all.\r \r It's highly overrated!!! The name it has brings the restaurants all its customers. Some of them will not come back though.\r \r Pros: service Cons: food, price more
