Southside Tattoo & Body Piercing

First off let me say that South Side tattoo was voted best tattoo shop in Pittsburgh several times. Veronica( the owner) is by far better than Kat Von D in my opion. Many other reviews state it took a very long time and everyone is not nice to you, which is un-true. I must admit, it was a long time but the shop only has 5 or 6 rooms for tattooing and 1 room for piercing and after your experience you'll relize the time was worth it. It is better to get an appointment made instead of waiting. If you have the wait down the street are many restaurants.&places to shop to pass time away. If you do leave to get somthing to eat BE SURE TO TELL SOMEONE THERE.If you don't they will think you left and cancell your appointment. and then you will be mad. Also don't be effended if an artist gives you suggestions to make the tattoo look better, rember they are the experts here. As for the person waiting on you, give them time! South Side is always busy and they have many other things, like finding how long it will take for you tattoo, how much, when it can be done, the price for every customer in that shop. Many people visit South Side tattoo everyday, and many of them come out with a great tattoo or piercing. I have never written a review of a business in my entire life, but South Side Tattoo angered me to the extent of becoming a city search member in order to write them a bad review.\r I took the time out to have two prior consultations with a receptionist there about my tattoo and provided them with a few drawings to work off at least 2 weeks prior to the appointment time I reserved by putting a 50 dollar deposit down. When I arrived at South Side Tattoo at my designated appointment time, the busy, off putting receptionist had no idea who i was, and proceeded to tell me they had lost the drawings I gave to them and had no drawings ready to show me. I remained patient, understanding they are a popular business and these things happen. Half an hour later she recovers the drawings, but admits they had been shown to tattoo artists who WERE NOT scheduled to work that day. Then the receptionist began ferrying the worst, messiest, most childlike drawings I had ever seen back and forth between some far off mysterious artist in the back and myself. When I decided after TWO HOURS, (and finally, after begging, getting to speak to the actual artist) that it wasn't getting any better, and they were being so rude to me I'd had enough, I canceled and left. I then had to fight with South Side tattoo for 2 weeks to get my 50 dollar deposit back for the appointment they weren't prepared for, they treated me like trash, and even stooped as low as insulting my tattoo without even seeing it. They are the opposite of ""the customers always right"". I will never recommend that business to anyone ever again, neither will anyone I know. Pros: None Cons: totally overpriced! more

My tattoo was done by Amy. She is fabulous. The tattoo was absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend her and South Side Tattoo to anyone that wants a professional looking tattoo. Pros: Talented Artists...Very Knowledgeable...Clean Atmosphere more

Me and my friend went in to south side tattoo cuz she wanted a tatt apt made and the guys there were very nice. They made us feel welcome and were very helpful. I decided to get my nipples pierced and dan ended up being the one to do it. At first I was pretty nervous, but he made me feel pretty comfortable and did them perfectly. Hurt like hell!!! ...That was expected. I don't have any tatt's from S.Side but my best friend does and they look really good. Next tattoo i get will probably be from this place. Their pretty damn good... and their not shady weirdo's like at other tatt shops... their friendly and good at what they do. My two tatt's are from angry moon... and i don't like em nearly as much as my friends tatt's... Plus it's a much better atmosphere at south side. < not a bunch of shade ba lls. So if ur looking to get a piercing or tatt i would get it done at this place =) Pros: Friendly, professional, clean. more

This is the best place ever. I've gotten 3 tattoos done here by joe, and he is the best. I'd recommend him to anyone! The first time i went there joe did my second tattoo. I didnt have anything to eat that day and i started to get dizzy and felt like i was about to pass out. When i told him i didnt feel good he quickly stopped without any attitude and had someone bring me a cup of water and he put a cold ice pack around my neck. He also gave me a lollipop and waited till i felt better to continue! And they did this all without acting annoyed or anything. The guy at the desk was also very nice. And im really satisfied with the quality of all my tattoos. Hes really cool to talk to and he makes you feel really comfortable. Hes extremely talented and ill be going back to him for my next! Garrick did an awesome job on my tattoo yesterday! I absolutely love my tattoo. Garrick made my tattoo look exactly like the picture I showed him plus he did the changes that I asked him to do. I would highly recommend Garrick to anyone looking to get a tattoo. I know that when I am ready for tattoo #2 I am definitely going back to South Side Tattoo and requesting Garrick! more

I got my navel pierced, and I was very impressed. Kristin did the piercing, and did a great job. I let her know that I get a little scared with needles, and she made me feel very confortable. I will definitely recommend this shop to everyone I know. Pros: Service and quality more

When I asked some very basic questions about the cleanliness of their shop, the man on the phone was not able to tell me how often they spore tested their autoclave. He kept stating that they had been in business for 13 years and that they had never had an incident....that's all well and good, but he should have known how often the autoclave was cleaned and should not have acted like it was an inconvenience to answer my questions. more

Southside Tattoo and Body Piercing is the best place around! We have 12 tattoos each and the last 6 have been done by Southside. We LOVE Veronica and now my boyfriend is getting in to Amy. I agree that you get what you pay for and the artwork Southside provides is worth the money. The color lasts for as long as you do. The people are friendly and know what they're talking about. We recommend Southside to all of our friends and family. It's the place we take everyone when they want to tattoo or pierce (Jewels and Dan have done all my piercings). We recommend Southside Tattoo to EVERYONE! You'll enjoy what you get! South Side Tattoo is the BEST ALL OVER.\r Sometimes the guy at the front desk is wierd & acts clueless and/or offended when you ask to speak to the artist - and it's not even about him. South SIde could hire better front desk people, but I've seen worse. I would never go anywhere else.\r \r I got my 4th tattoo from Mike (ear) in December 2010 and I love it. I'm planning number 5, 6, & 7. And if Mike did not work there I would be comfortable letting any of their artists tattoo me. This is talent and skill I wish I had. Pros: EXCELLENCE more

I got my 3rd tattoo from Mike on Tuesday - he did my first two. When I made my appointment I didn't provide very good examples & am not always the best at explaining what I want. I spoke with the receptionist who communicated my ideas to Mike. When I arrived on Tuesday a design was drawn that wasn't my style. I asked to speak with Mike and the receptionist appeared offended that I didn't trust what he communicated to Mike. He advised me that he told Mike what I told him. I'm sure that's true, but it's not even about him! And what I wanted is going to be on my body forever. Mike finally spoke with me face to face and I explained to him that when I made the appointment I just got off work and did not have the best examples with me. I explained further what I wanted and showed better examples. I am also open to their advice because they are excellent artists and definitely know what they are talking about. Mike redrew the design which I liked much better. I got it on my right inner arm above wrist. And if I decide on a 4th, which I likely will, I will only go to South Side. Pros: EXCELLENCE more
