Editorial review from Citysearch 9/14/2012

I used to shop at the southern thrift in Donelson , it was my favorite THRIFT store. But the pricing has gotten laughable, and the manager thinks it is NOT a thrift store, but more like a T.J.Maxx. (yeah, right) If you make a purchase of a large piece of furniture that you happen on, (even if you're willing to drop a couple hundred bucks on them) they will NOT hold it for you to make arrangements to pick it up for any longer than 1 hour. Citing corporate policy, (all four stores are a corporate, really?) Customer service stinks and I am referring to the corporate HEAD. ( of all 4 stores) I will never give them another cent. I will take all of my thrift store business to Music Valley Thrift in Madison, they are customer friendly. (they want my money, how it should be, its a customer reliant business and knows it) I guess thats why southern thrift has so much stuff, they arent really moving it. more

""Security"" call at Southern Thrift; GREAT STORE! 6/24/2010

How funny that one of the other reviewers thinks security is being called for every few minutes in this store! When most of the time it is a call for whichever employee is carrying the restroom key to go unlock the restroom at the request of a customer. I asked a manager about this one time. Try it. Go to the front counter and ask for the restroom to be unlocked and see if they don't announce for ""Security, section #"". And most times the person, depending on which cashier it is, will turn around and tell you someone is going back to unlock the door for you.\r I've shopped the Donelson Southern Thrift store since the very 1st day it opened. Love it and will continue to shop there. I've found some tremendous bargains, but it is always at a thrift store hit or miss. That's why you have to go on a regular basis, because the merchandise changes almost daily. Pros: lots of merchandise, well organized, clean Cons: high prices for a thrift store more

Great place for bargain hunting 10/12/2008

This big, well organized store is a bargain hunter's paradise! The store is very neat and clean and it's easy to find your size of all types of clothing, which is what I typically shop for there. The clothing tends to be in far better condition than what you will typically find at Goodwill and I have much better luck finding things I want here. While I have heard security paged over the intercom before as the first reviewer mentions, I have never once in all my many visits felt that anyone was watching or staring at me. If employees are sent to areas of the store where customers are shopping, that is as it should be. It is perfectly understandable for store employees to look out for the best interests of the store, and I feel the staff of Southern Thrift do this in a perfectly reasonable manner no different than you might expect to see at a store in the mall. This is a wonderful place to shop. Of all Southern Thrift's locations, this is the best, though the new one on Harding Place comes very close and should not be missed! Pros: huge selection, very organized, clothing in good condition Cons: Price tags attached to clothes with potentially damaging staples that hurt if you catch one! more

Best thrift store in town 8/16/2008

I always find something every time I visit this thrift store. The brands are incredible (even found a Christian Dior top once) and they usually have clothing that is new with tags. I've never had issues with the staff as the other reviewer described. The clothing is well organized. I even find Polo and Children's Place labels for my toddler there (in good to great condition).\r \r The prices are cheaper than most thrift stores. Definitely the best thrift store in town as far as I'm concerned. It has been my little secret andI hesitated to write a review, but the info should be shared : ). Pros: Clothing well organized, better labels put in separate sections, unbelievable prices more

Unpleasant cesspool, majority customer base apparently career thieves! 6/27/2008

Very unpleasant place. Store is pathetic pseudo-police state. I have visit three times, during each of these visits employees perpetually call ""security"" to various areas seemingly every 3-5 minutes. At which time one of their lowly employees comes to indicated area and pretends to be working whilst staring at customers; a primitive psychological tactic used to deter theivery. My only asumption was that at least half of their customer base are career theives. I found it all humorours yet irritating until a very gross negro employee continued staring at me with crazed hateful gaze whilst I browse furniture. She was probably ""high"" on substances as she appeared to be drooling on self whilst staring at me, it became so obnoxious that I left. She was somewhat entertaining and funny to look at (like observing creatures at zoo) but she would not cease and go away so it became quite irritating. I will never patronize this cesspool again, experience is simply too bizarre and unpleasant. Pros: Very nice selection and good prices. Cons: obvious as described in review more
