A Terrible Experience 4/12/2011

We had an absolutely terrible experience with Southern Crescent. Our elderly cat had terminal cancer, which we were treating with palliative care, and over the holiday in December he suddenly got much worse overnight, such that we knew he couldn't wait until our regular vet was available for euthanasia. I called ahead to SC, and they were very nice on the phone. However, I learned when we got there that they do not do the industry standard for euthanasia - sedative plus overdose of anaesthetic - they just do the anaesthetic. I trusted them that this wouldn't be an issue, but that was a terrible decision on my part. They took my cat in back, and inserted an IV port. Then they brought him back to us to say goodbye. When the vet, Dr. Alison McIntire DVM, came in to administer the drug, it wouldn't go in well - apparently the IV port had become dislodged, despite being taped down by about a billion layers of tape. Because the anaesthetic causes a terrible burning sensation, and it was going into his skin, my cat snapped at her. She then refused to finish the injection, insisting that ""he needs to go in back so the techs can work on him."" Not her - the techs. I said no, and asked her to find another solution. In the meantime, my cat was dying, terrified, and in pain. She left and came back with a large burly man, who wanted to pin my cat down. She seemed annoyed and irritated with us, and said that my crying was responsible for upsetting my cat. Finally, she injected the anaesthetic into his hind leg. But it took 15 minutes at least for everything to happen, and she was mean and snappy, and it was completely traumatic for me and my husband, and my cat's life ended in pain and fear. I would never, EVER recommend Southern Crescent to anyone - they euthanize inhumanely, and they are obviously not in the business of making your pet or you comfortable. I hope they go out of business, and I complained to my regular vet about them. more

Don't go there!!! You'll be sorry. 8/9/2010

OMG.....I had the same thing with my dog. The money was totally more important to them then treating sick animals. By the time I got the money, my dog also went into cardiac arrest.\r This vet should not be allowed to talk to the patients or owners of the patients. She was rude and got defensive when asked about tests and x-rays. I can't get my dog back, she was only 3yrs.\r But if this keeps one family from not going there then it is worth it. There are other emergency clinics, like in Union City. more

Southern Crescent Animal Hospital 4/10/2010

We had a good experience. Our little dog ate chocolate and they had to pump her stomach. It did cost a fortune, but they were very nice, we got to see her all along, and she was O.K. They even taught us what to do if we were in a situation where she had not eaten as much chocolate or we were out of town. We now keep hydrogen peroxide everywhere, including our R.V. She has to be able to throw up as soon as possible. more

Mishandled dog emergency 9/22/2009

Killed my dog with by not providing correct procedures for a dog who was injured by another animal. The doctor at the animal hospital said that we was attacked by another dog and his wounds were superficial. They sent me home with oral meds only never gave a shot of antibiotic's in the leg that was punctured by the other animal. My dog was in shock less than 16 hours later and died. His doctor states that the animal hospital should have kept him over night to monitor the wound but they didn't, said it was superficial. more

Southern Crescent Animal is a great emergency facility 7/31/2009

A far different experience than the other review, I took my cat about a month ago and everyone was super nice and even though I felt that I was being over protective they were very nice and took good care of my cat. more

Results in coming here- Dead pet and Large debt 4/1/2008

Took my very sick dog to them on the verge of death they rushed her to the back ...she was limp as I placed her on the counter... but they took her to the back claiming they injected saline and she was getting better.. they spent 4 hours trying to get me financed for a very large sum of money telling me the entire time she was getting better, we would be able to take here home and we could see her in a little while (that coincidentally lasted exactly as long as it took to come to terms on finance) at that point they informed us she had suffered cardiac arrest. \r \r My belief is the dog was DOA and they drug their feet not allowing us to see her until until they had check in hand so they made their money off our grief. more
