A Masterpiece Theatre in West Ashley? 3/17/2007

Where are the crowds? This quirky little theatre is the BEST deal in town and I'm always surprised that it's not packed. They run great movies, offer adult beverages, good concessions, bistro tables in the back rows if you want to dine during the show, and front door parking. The owners are friendly and available and though I'm not crazy about the menagerie of birds and reptiles in the lobby...they certainly add to the adventurous spirit of this jewel of a theater. The showtimes are never the same from one day to the next so you always have to double check to see when your choice of movies is showing, but at a mere $3.00 a ticket...who cares? South Windemere Theater is a Charleston entertainment masterpiece. I think I'll go again tonight! Pros: Small and intimate, you can enjoy alcoholic beverages and eat dinner during the show, convenient parking, fun and friendly atmosphere Cons: Must check movie showtimes daily, if you are afraid of birds and lizards..go somewhere else. more

GRUMMAN'S CHINESE THEATRE, CULTCHA, CULTURE, HIGH BROW-LOW BROW, LOWENBRAU WINE 3/7/2007

SIMPLY PUT, THE BEST MOVIE HOUSE IN CHARLESTON, SC.\r IT'S AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN GET TO GRUMMAN'S CHINESE THEATRE,\r ON HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD RIGHT HERE DEEP IN THE \r SOUTHERN LOW-COUNTRY. YOU ARE GUARANTEED A SHOW\r YOU'LL REMEMEMBER. I THOUGHT I SAW A YOUNG GRETA \r GARBO THERE ONE NIGHT WORKING THE CANDY AND DRINK................. Pros: 3 DOLLAR ADMISSION, ALL SHOWS, ALL DAYS, ALL NIGHTS more

Basic and cheap 3/4/2007

This is an inexpensive spot to see a movie and worth a try. The sound system is not very good and the there are birds in the lobby that can start chirping during the movie. Pros: Price Cons: Sound more

A local gem 3/24/2006

These may be the largest screens in Charleston...with excellent projection...the way films should be seen. This is a family owned and operated theater and tickets are still only three dollars... they are able to do this because the new releases they show are a few weeks behind the opening dates in the major chains. It is worth the wait. The concessions are reasonably priced, a variety of beers are available, and you can order dinner from next door. If you arrive early, you can visit with the theater's iguana ( caged). The proprietors select the better current films, ranging from G to R, and sometimes bring in older classics. No slasher or sexploitation junk. This place is unique, and I look first to their billings if I am thinking about going to a movie. If you haven't been there, give it a try. Pros: inexpensive, big screens, good films more

I love this place! 7/25/2002

This place is fantastic! The management is the nicest bunch of peope I have met in some time. You can order adult beverages with your movie. But, wait....it gets better. You can also order sushi or mediteranian food from the resturants adjacent to the theater and enjoy them while you watch your movie. Last, but, not least, all shows are $3 and the consessions are reasonably priced! This is the best deal in town and a great atmosphere. I can't say enough good things about this place. Pros: sushi, beer, good movies Cons: none, none, none more
