I got my dog from Wanda and had problems right away. When I took my dog in for her first vet exam everything checked out ok but after a few days I ended up at the emergency vet because she had giardia. I had not taken her out of the house except to go to the vet for fear of parvo so I am sure she had giardia when I got her. After 1 year my dog began having issues with a luxating patella in her right leg. I went though the surgery over $1000 at the time and 6 weeks of recovery. Now at four years old her left knee is showing problems from a luxating patella. So she is having surgery next moth. This time the estimate is $1600+ and another 6 week recovery period. Please find a breeder who is responsible and takes care of their animals as well as one who does not pass on genetic diseases common in their breeds. Do more research and pick a different breeder PLEASE!! Cons: too many to count more

South Fork Kennels should by now be closed... however, even after having the Rescue take 61 hounds off her hands in December 2009 (and thereby greatly reduce the food and vet bills for Wanda and Greg, transferring the burden to Golden Gate Basset Rescue) I believe Wanda is back breeding basset hounds. Wanda signed an agreement that she would NOT breed again, and that any basset hounds apart from the pups that she was selling for the Holidays (supposedly to help them clear their vet and food bills) would be handed over to GGBR. Cons: Poor breeding practices more
