Nice complex, decent management
We have lived in Somerset Park now for eight months while I came to the Lansing area temporarily as a contractor. Premiums for a 3-month lease were high, but was not an obstacle in our circumstance. Overall, though, the apartment units were very nice & newly built. Tall ceilings and up-to-date appliances & cabinetry made for a relaxing location. The walls did seem thin with some noise to contend with (although, most apartments fall into this category), but the primary noise levels came from the common hallway as noises would echo very loudly.
Our largest concern was with the management. Although, they did take care of most issues, it did seem hesitant at times & only performed what was strictly required of them. Plowing snow would often take several days to be completed & they never took extra steps to clear the road leading into the compex (understanding that it is a county road, they still refused to even make a path). For us, we signed a corporate package that included renting furniture (including the rental of a dust pan), yet we were told to buy a snow shovel to clear the large pile of now in front of our garage door.
When we would contact the office to ask questions, we were often told they would get back to us – but a return call was hit and miss (mostly miss). We would have to constantly pressure them and they would sometimes be short with you in what seemed to be an attempt to get you to stop calling. Although most responses were slow, we did have most of our issues resolved (even if it took several attempts).
The location of the apartments are a little far from most city conveniences, but it is very close to Interstate access.
We would give this location 5 stars if the management would have gone the extra mile to listen and make their tennants happy, but that is the only primary ingredient that seemed to be missing. Accepting the issues with the management staff (and there are locations that are much worse), we would still recommend this location.
