amazing food. amazing service. amazing prices. 6/3/2007

i have been looking for a place that serves poutine all over los angeles and this appears to be the only one and best by far. the owner/chef is french canadian, who was so sweet and friendly. gave us free chocolate cake for dessert. it's a small intimate area and the prices are really good for the quality of food your getting. apparently they only serve poutine on the weekends until 3 pm. but it's soooo good. Pros: affordable, delicious more

Great place for lunch 5/21/2007

I've been here for lunch twice and both times have been fantastic. The staff is very courteous and attentive. The ambiance is very nice as well. The good here is very good. They have a parmesan fondue which is fantastic. They fry the cheese very lightly which makes it easy to spread it on their nice warm bread. Combine it with one of their great sandwiches (I recommend the brie cheese sandwich) and you will have yourself a great meal. As a final note: if you want to try something a little different definitely try their pumpkin ravioli. I usually don't like pumpkin anything but I loved that dish. It has a nice cream sauce and is very flavorful without being overpowering. Pros: Great service, great food Cons: Have to park in the Borders lot, but they validate more

Fantastic Lunch 4/5/2007

Got there at 3:30 PM to eat from lunch menu wednesaday. It was so great. I decided to go back thursday and friday. I had no Idea they were serving lunch now. They have a great selection of dishes. I had a great meal. Foods were very tasty and so cheap. Portions are very generous. The service was fast and very pleasant. You should really check it out it's worth it. Oh also, the Owner (the Chef) is so nice and inviting. He gave me a free home made desert and many discounts coupons for lunch. Pros: Food, Service more

charming and unpretentious 1/26/2007

I had the opportunity to eat lunch here a few weeks ago and I enjoyed it very much. First of all, this place is totally unpretentious. The staff is warm and friendly, the atmosphere is cozy and so un LA like it was a blessing. I had the crab cakes and pasta while my friends had the pumkin ravioli and the chicken ravioli. The food was fabulous! Nothing showy, just excellent down to earth dishes that completely satisfy you. If Soleil was closer to me I would go there at least once week. The friendly staff and affordable prices make this place a must to check out. Pros: everything Cons: parking maybe a little difficult more

Pure charm, great service, phenomenal food! 1/25/2007

We went based on reviews here and we were NOT let down!! it was amazing. Our server was very friendly and warm, and the owner knew that it was our first time so he gave us a certificate for a free brunch. The vibe was mellow and cozy, and EVERY single thing we ordered, from appetizers to entrees to dessert was PHENOMENAL. will be back again and again! Pros: service, food, ambience more

Cute but mediocre 1/23/2007

A co-worker recommended this place so I took my French food palette discerning boyfriend here on a Saturday night. The place was crowded but the owner?/host heartily seated us right away at the only remaining table. The server, equally charming, expertly rattled off the specials but was unable to tell us anything more specific about them other than that they were ""very, very good."" I ordered the white fish with lobster sauce (a special) which was light and generic accompanied by the scalloped potatoes. The potatoes tasted as if they had been boiled in water and served with nothing else. They were flat and tasteless. The boyfriend excitedly ordered the coq au vin, another special listed in the menu- apparently this is a traditional French specialty. He was disappointed by the uninspired rendition he got but reasonably enjoyed the french fries (the alternate to the scalloped potatoes). All in all, ,I would say that the food was mediocre and not worth the upper medium price range (for this type of food) that we paid. Perhaps we came on an offnight? I will say that the decor is interesting- the ceiling is painted to look like the sky with glow in the dark stars implanted in the structure. Pros: Service Cons: Mediocre food more

Fabulous Food and Fabulous Service 1/10/2007

This is my first time writing a review on a restaurant. Soleil is SO good. Everyone there is so nice including the busboy, the servers, and the owner. The food is delicious and is very reasonably priced. It is such a good restaurant that my husband and I go there almost every week and sometimes more than once a week. The chef is a culinary genius, and I would highly recommend Soleil! Pros: Food, Service, Price more

Sweet, Quaint Local spot 12/12/2006

This little bistro is a charming, quaint local spot with friendly, charming service. The food is simple, good and fresh, and the prices are very reasonable. I've only ever come for brunch so I can't review the dinner menu, but so far, the crepes and omelettes have all been well prepared with fresh ingredients. My friend had the pumpkin ravioli which was quite delicious. You can park at the border's lot next door. Pros: Good, simple food at reasonable prices; friendly, earnest service more

SUPER DUPER DELICIOUS AND YUMMACIOUS! 10/5/2006

I absolutely love this place... GREAT food and wine, excellent service, and the owner is such a SWEETHEAR you just want to give him tons of kisses! I don't usually eat everything on my plate when I eat but I practically licked off my plate of LAMB... then I had desert! Pros: Everything! more

Wonderful brunch location 9/10/2006

It's French, and so was our server's accent, but it makes me think of brunch in New York. The menu isn't enormous, but the dishes are wonderful. Try the Poutine Christine; the skinny fries with cheese curds and peppercorn sauce is flavorful but not overwhelming. The crepes, omelets, and Eggs Benedict were all well-received at our table. more

Fantastic! 7/21/2006

This place is fantastic for a party. I had my birthday party there and they were so wonderful. The food was good, the service was fast, the atmosphere was friendly and happy. I highly recommend this restaurant. Pros: Nice atmosphere, good food, friendly and caring owner Cons: I don't think there was a parking lot or valet more

Our Go to Spot 6/28/2006

Soleil is the best. The steak a la Christine is to die for. We even ask for extra sauce to dip our pommes frites. We go here on nearly every occasion, great for parties and groups. The owner, Luc is adorable. And the prices are incredibly reasonable. I'm so happy this place is in my hood. Pros: steak a la Christine, pommes frites, LUC and even the inexpensive Madalena Cabernet Cons: parking in the scary Borders lot, but even that's better than driving around looking for a spot more

Amazing atmosphere and food! 5/17/2006

I went to Soleil for brunch, recommended by friends, just this last weekend. To start, the ambience of the restaurant is very spectacular. Furthermore, the staff is attentive and very personable and always there for your every whim! The brunch menu has an assortment of crepes, omelets and many other things, a true taste of French and French Canadian cuisine! I recommend the poutine and the Ratatouille Omelet.. they were to die for. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

Two words: Pumpkin Ravioli!!! 3/10/2006

My husband and I LOVE Soleil! It has a sweet, comfortable, welcoming decor. We love Luc, the owner, from Canada. The food is FABULOUS! I almost always order the pumpkin ravioli -- delicious! My huband loves the steak a la Christine avec pomme frites. It's always pretty crowded although there usually seems to be a couple of tables available. We go on a regular basis and I highly recommend this gem. Service is generally good. Pros: Food, Nice decor, Pumpkin ravioli Cons: parking more

Mussels leave something to be desired 1/27/2006

We went for my birthday, a Wednesday night, which is all you can eat mussles and frittes. The frittes were great, the mussels just so-so. The sauce left a lot to be desired. But the service was very friendy and the atmosphere was nice, so I still recommend it. Pros: Good service Cons: Mussels more
