Smooth's Sports Grille

Went to this location for the Paquiao/ Hatton fight. Food was good - hot wings for $12.95 seemed a little pricey. The place was 3/4 full and twice the waitress tried to serve me beer in a plastic glass. I expect more from an establishment that proclaims to bring ""fine dining to the big game"". Also, watch for ultra-fine print at bottom of the menu that calls for a service charge - even for one person during a special event. Brought it to the owners attention who didn't seem to agree that it is appropriate to inform guests of auto-grat policy, but instead guests should look at the fine print. I suppose he's right - as consumers we are responsible for examining the bill and menu for additional charges. I simply don't want to feel like I have to read a contract for hidden fees before I sign the bill. And when I brought it up to the waitress she thought I was out of line, stating that this policy was the ""norm"". When I asked her where she had eaten that had the same policy, however, she couldn't name one.Finally, the host at the front of the establishment kept calling me ""buddy"" - am I alone in thinking that this is rather inappropriate? In an economy where people tend to be particularly selective where they are going to spend their money, standards should be higher. My boyfriend and I were going to go to Mariposas but unfortunately for us they had been closed down se we decided to try out Smooths which is just across the streets. From outside it looked decent, there was a go go dancer on the second floor on their outside patio and it looked like it be ok. We payed the 20/person which was like w/e cuz we knew we were late neways. We go inside and its somewhat empty...couple groups eating and one couple on the dance floor. We thought well lets get a beer here then head upstairs. We both get a corona which they pour in a white plastic cup! i was like huh??? and on top of its $7 for each. Not only was the price bad enough but the corona didnt even taste good. We went upstairs and it was somewhat packed however it seemed like i was at a homecoming dance then a CLUB!!!! not only that but about 25 after TRYING to make the best of the 50+ bucks we had already spent the dj anounces that the police has asked them to move the club downstairs! WHAT??? now it seems like im at a backyard party. The music wasnt getting better either so we just left and went to the the Dublin. I will never visit this restaurant/club again. The service was horrible, drinks are over priced watered down and food is poor quality. Not to mention the owner/restaurant manager has no class and is rude. They put your drinks in plastic deposable cups and charge top dollar for cheap low grade liquor ($8.00 Shots, $14 Martini all in plastic party cups). There is service charge to dine; you would think it would go to waitress as gratuity-no just another way for owner/manager to take your hard earned money. When I questioned the manger about the service charge he treated me like a common criminal by stating you don?t pay service charge I?ll call the police(How RUDE?). You will never see me there again and I would recommend you not to waste your hard earned money at this establishment, it?s not worth the money or the headache. more

Absolutely Poor Service ... \r \r Perhaps it had its hay-day when it was restored, however, the services and bus boys have gone way over their head. \r \r Do not trust Friday Night Promoters. They claim that they will give you bottle service after all the fees have been paid, however, after 5 minutes of being at the table, they turn around and give your table to another group. No apologies given and your money will not be given back in full. Its a club friday nights. Drinks are affordable. Crowd is great, you see all kinds of ethnicity's there. I dont know what its like on the weekdays but on fridays its one of the best clubs/lounge in Downtown long beach. They have two dancefloors one downstairs and upstairs which is outdoor, and the dj's play good music as well from old school hip hop, mainstream, rock, dancehall and some salsa. This place is so overrated. The bartenders need to take a chill pill because they would rather be working out. Cover price is extreme and the drinks are overpriced! Don't valet because you will not want to stay long. Pros: Downtown LB. Cons: Bad service, expense and overpriced. more
