Not clean or well maintained. Understaffed but minimum wage workers do the best they can in difficult conditions (always having to explain why things don't get fixed). Owner was bragging about new expensive Hyundai he purchased yet he does not fix club properly or pay his workers fairly - has Christian sayings all over the club, though (makes him a false prophet). Club could be really good if someone invested time and money to make it so. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 4/4/2014

My family joined in November of 2013. There are so many things we are disappointed with. Main one being the pool and hot tub area...Club policy and common decency require people to shower before entering either, but often they do not. Poor hygiene and complete lack of oversight from staff means we pay dearly for services we don't feel comfortable using, in view of obvious health concerns. There is often scum all around the jacuzzi and the bathrooms are usually dirty. It has nice features, but not worth what we are paying. I would not recommend this gym. more

Fantastic Place To Workout 4/28/2010

A great athletic club with great family rates. Employees are courteous and very helpful. Very clean. Lots of classes to choose from. Has BOTH an indoor and outdoor pool for both the serious and recreational swimmer. A very comfortable place to get a workout without feeling like you are at a singles club being preyed upon by the opposite sex. Love the big screen TV's by the treadmills and bikes. My husband likes the room with the free weights and the women's only exercise room is also great. So much to offer. The best health club that I have belonged to in Slidell by far. Pros: Clean, attractive atmosphere with state of the art equip. Cons: None more

Best for getting results! 4/8/2010

I was a member of Cross Gates and made the switch over to Slidell Athletic Club. I could NOT be happier. I am continually amazed at the knowledge and achievement of the staff members. They are indeed industry leaders. SAC also has an abundant amount of state-of-the-art equipment. Since joining SAC, I never have to wait for a machine, which helps when I am looking for a quick, effective work-out. Pros: industry leading staff, state of art equipment more

A facility with room to grow 2/4/2010

I have been attending SLidell Athletic Club now for just about a year. Everything I need this club offers. When I go workout I don't want to have to wait for a machine of an area to clear up so that I can do my thing. This club offers a large facility full of equipment. I haven't been inside once and had to wait. I didn't enjoy the music much last fall but now they have a new music system which plays music that everyone can enjoy. There is one problem that I can easily see and that is the free weight room. THe equipment is fine but the weights are over the place. I see the employees coming in and out of there putting things back where they belong, but it isn't enough. The club could really use some way of better organizing the equipment. more

Slidell Athletic Club needs work. 11/11/2009

Slidell Athletic Club is an average gym. There is much hype about the classes they offer, however, the classes do not cater to the working person. They are scheduled either too early or too late in the evening. My decision to joing Slidell Athletic Club was based on the fact that the second location, on Hwy 190, would be opening in 2009. It's November 11, 2009 and there is no activity on that property. I don't find the instructors very friendly or helpful. No one talks to you when you are there and I have never been approached by any staff member asking if I needed any help. I have observed the staff engagined in extensive conversations with the extremely fit members. I would think that those people don't need as much help or guidance as the "not so fit" members. It is as though the staff avoids those who are overweight and un-fit. I thought that I would be motivated and encouraged by the staff members, but, quite the contrary. I may as well join one of the self-help gym in t more

NOT a Kids Club 11/9/2009

I like the club because of the space. You can walk in it without bumping into some sweaty guy like some other clubs. If I wanted a place to leave my kids I would go somewhere another facility. Pros: Not a Kids Club more

Clean & Friendly Club 11/3/2009

I really enjoy coming to this club. Being in the military I have traveled and used a lot of clubs. If anyone is shopping health clubs, you should consider this club. Lots of equipment! Did I say Lots of equipment? Its very clean too. if you like classes they have a lot, i'm not into them, but they have them, even at 5 in the morning when I go. Pros: Clean club more

Slidell Athletic Club is a Great adult facility 10/30/2009

it really erks me when people don't like something a business is or isn't doing, and say "well they're a christian business they should do everything I want". Well you know what, businesses can be a Christian facility, and just not offer the services you want. Just becuase the gym doesn't offer a lot of things for kids, doesn't make them less of a Christian business. Some of you guys sound simple ridiculous! Theres no need to bash a business because they don't offer what you are looking for. That would be like me bashing my cable compnay because they don't deliver pizza. Its two different businesses. I like slidell athletic club because there aren't kids running around everywhere. If I wanted that I would go to the park. I have a child and the whole point of daycare at the gym is, is so my child is in safe environment while I work out, I didn't join the gym for my kid to have something to do, I joined for me. I then do other things for my child at other places. By the way, my child als more

Update to previous post 5/19/2009

I previously posted re: concerns of lack of things for kids to do in this "family" club. Since then, Tina, one of the managers has really gone above and beyond trying to find out what the needs are for people with kids (including homeschooling families who look for activities in the daytime). I see they now have a summer camp planned for children. That's a start. I won't be able to sign him up for this because I had already found a fun summer program and signed him up for that one. (swim team at Tanglewood) Still glad to see SAC stepping up to the plate and beginning to show an interest in the kids. There is at least the feeling that they are trying. I did put our son in their karate program which he enjoys and that gives me another hour of workout time without having to juggle childcare. Hopefully, more fun and healthy activities are in the pipeline and coming soon. We have extended our membership to go through the summer. Not enough for families 4/1/2009

I have to agree with the lady who complained about the lack of things for her kids to do. We only have one son, 7 yrs old, and we go at alternating times because he hates the child area, too. He liked it initially but after being told to stop running a few times...well, he's seven. Sitting there playing video games is not what we wanted him to be doing anyway. We wanted him in motion and interacting with other kids in guided play, exercise, etc... There are several babies. Because we go at different times of the day and the babies were often the same, I have to believe that they are probably employee babies. I did ask about programs for kids but one employee said they had approached the owner and was told that they are not a babysitters club. Young members eventually become paying members. We belong to this club but are paying $25 month for our son to go to P.E. (homeschool P.E.) at Crossgates twice a week. There are between 20 - 30 kids that show up for homeschool P.E. twice more

Not really family oriented 3/3/2009

We reviewed both major local clubs before signing with this one. We bought the family friendly sales pitch and this one was closer to home. We like the nice, spacious facilities. I personally like the women's only area. We like the indoor pool for adults looking just to exercise or have a quiet swim. The outdoor pool is nice for families. I love the variety of classes offered. We love that it's open 24 hours (except weekends). Unfortunately, for us, the cons outweigh the conveniences. There are Christian quotes throughout and this is nice...kind of sets a tone for what to expect. Yet, there are employees walking around w/t-shirts asking if you've tried all twenty positions. Yes, I know this refers to an exercise machine but it is a play on a sexual innuendo about positions tried. I haven't asked anyone about this but have been asked a few times by friends who are members if I'd seen the shirts. No one was laughing. More surprised about a "family" club promoting the machine more

Great Club! 10/24/2008

I have been a member of the slidell athletic club since 2006. The staff has been extremely helpful assisting in weight training and classes regarding nutrition. Slidell Athletic Club has updated and excellent maintained equipment. The indoor pool is perfect for year round training and no impact cardio. The staff is always available to assist when needed and resolves the clients needs. They attend community activites and take an active role in helping the community. Slidell Athletic Club is a family friendly environment. I will recommend Slidell Athletic Club to my friends and family more

not what i thought it would be 2/5/2008

so when i joined the salesperson sold me on having people help me.... that did not happen. But if i were interested in purchasing personal training it would. I also found that the club was very dirty. I also later found out that even though the club is rather new, the equipment was purchased used. so this means that some of the equipment was about 10 years old but sold as being brand new. i made a bad decission when joining. i warn those that are thinking about it - dont. more
