Sports Bar for Dinner? 10/21/2010

We had never been to the Skybox, but went there for a NCAA football game we couldn't see anywhere else. The most amazing set of televisions and the ability to listen to our game made the trip worth it. But we were so surprised that the food was top notch! Everything we had was tasty and filling. Our server (Brian i think) was so nice and talked to us about our game. We will definitely go back, even when we don't need the TV's! more

Don't waste your breath. 10/17/2010

I was very excited to eat here. With all of the T.V.s and fun environment I couldn't wait to bring my husband. When we got there we didn't even know what our waitress did. She never came around and she was always talking to her coworkers. She didn't even bring out the food. The food was not very good either. I couldn't have been more disappointed. She was rude and the food was not good but the T.V.s were cool. Could have saved money and watched the game at home. more

terrible food and service 10/3/2009

the burger was dry, the cheese on the nachos is cheese whiz and the service is horrible more

Avoid this place! 10/23/2007

I know good service! You won't find it here. We got there and were 1 of 3 tables...not too complicated right? Wrong! The staff was busy looking clueless and chatting with each other. When we were finally seatted we were ignored by a waitress that literally looked away when we looked at her. We tried to get the hostess attention. No luck. So we waited and waited. No one ever brought water said hello or even seemed as if they were at work. We got up to leave and the stupid hostess actually said ""thanks for comming in"". I won't even try again!!! more

Our favorite place to watch sports 10/22/2007

We have been to the Sky Box many times and always leave wanting to go back soon. The only problem we ever have is getting in on busy nights (JAZZ!!). We love the food and have noticed it get better and better. Our service is always good. Mostly great, but sometimes the craziness of big nights makes perfection impossible. But everyone is always nice and courteous. We will always go back and always tell our friends and family that there is no better sports bar in Utah. Pros: Sports, Food and Atmosphere! Cons: Everyone else goes there when we do. more

Your stomach will get filled, your wallet will get emptied 4/11/2007

\r Skybox is a nice sports bar/grill located in downtown Salt Lake City in the Gateway shopping center. The menu is what you would expect it to be at such a place: burgers, ribs, sandwiches, pizza, and the like, though it does have a few surprises (a rather nice selection of salads and soups, for example). The food is actually pretty good (chile verde burrito might be the best in town), and the atmosphere is fun if you are into sports. There is also a large game room with arcade style games that should entertain kids and adults alike (though the pricing is ridiculous; I think 5 bucks allows you to play a whopping three games of air hockey).\r \r The two biggest problems with the skybox are the service and the prices. Servers seem frequently overwhelmed and can sometimes be fairly brusque. Be prepared to figure a lot of stuff out on your own, and don't expect those drinks to get refilled, since you will probably only see your waiter when he/she takes your order, delivers your food, and drops off the check.\r \r And now onto the pricing. Let's just say that you might want to let your food digest a bit before you look at the bill, because once you do your gag reflex will probably be induced. For example, that great chile verde burrito I was telling you about is a whopping $12.99. Thirteen bucks for a burrito? If one person goes in, get said burrito, a Dr. Pepper, and their best dessert (a chocolate souffle with vanilla ice cream), that meal will come to about $30 (12.99 + 2.25 + 7.99 + tax + 15% tip). Thirty bucks for a burrito, soft drink, and a dessert? Get over yourself, skybox.\r more

Go for the game, just eat somewhere else before you get there. 1/22/2007

Well, the food is Sub-par, the service is some of the worst you'll ever get. (The servers are nice, they just are never around.) the only reason I think anyone ever goes to this place is the TV's. Head over to Iggy's you'll be rewarded with better food, service, and you'll still be able to watch the game. Pros: You can watch any game you want. Cons: everything else. more

Dude! This place Rocks! 1/7/2007

I have been there three times and have come out satisfied all three times. The food is great! On my last visit I had the bacon burger with blue cheese and it was SO FREAKING GOOD! I also had both the tropical long island and the cadillac marguerita and they were both great! more

Not Good, 11/15/2006

The Sky Box gets business because of it's location in the Gateway shopping complex and that is the only reason I can think of. My wife and I tried the Sky Box before the Utah Jazz basketball game and wished we would have just eaten the area food. The service was so slow we almost got up and left. Our food was cold, no doubt from sitting under the ""heat"" lamps for twenty minutes. Our drinks were warm with three or four pices of ice floating on top. We thought an hour and a half would give us pletty of time to eat and walk across the street to the game but we were wrong by about thrity min. We will try another sports bar before the next game. Pros: Lots of tv's and sports to watch Cons: Everything else more

Two thumbs down, unless you let me borrow more thumbs. 6/30/2006

The problem with this large, multi-room restaurant can be summed up quite nicely with the simple fact that their kitchen window is 4 feet wide. From an operational stand-point, service couldn't be more bottle-necked. Not to mention they've rotated through nearly a half dozen managers in as many years... Now onto the other problems, my first experience with the Sky-Box I ordered the Salmon, a risky choice at a Sport's Bar but hey, I was feeling brave. The waiter looked confused, he said he didn't think they had salmon, so he went in the back and checked. A few minutes later he returned and was agitated, ""Ya, we don't carry salmon."" His agitation agitated me so I retorted, ""Is there anything else on the menu you don't carry?"" Now he was condescending, ""Salmon is NOT on the menu."" So I pointed it out to him and played dumb, ""Oh ok, then how do you pronounce this dish?"" I can almost forgive a server not knowing what certain dishes taste like or are made with but not knowing what is actually ON the menu? That is a sign that something is seriously wrong with the establishment, I could go on but I think that single experience pretty much sums up what my subsequent visits were like. Lousy service, long cook times, horrible, horrible horrible. Pros: Extremely cool stadium seating with a large screen and booths Cons: Absolutely everything else, and I mean EVERYTHING. more

Saturday night with kids 6/24/2006

Wanted a fun evening out with my family and that is what we had at the Skybox. We got the big nachos with black beans which were enough for 2 adults (As dinner!). I had their tropical long Island which for $7.50 was good. Our waitress had good timing and wasn't interrupting our meal all of the time. My kids ordered the grilled cheese and pizza, and I think when we go back I will try their vegetarian pizza. I ordered their salmon with mango which was ok (didn't care for the mango salsa), but it was just too much food. Overall we had a good family experience, and after dinner we went to their arcade and had a really fun time on the skiing game in the back (I snowboard but this game was a great deal-inexpensive- maybe .50 cents) and lots of fun...my husband played it 4 times with those arcade cards; I played it twice. Pros: quick seating, good timing on service, fun Cons: Unable to view arcade from where I was seated more

Great place for ""guy"" food... 1/25/2006

The Skybox has instituted a new 16 minute express lunch menu with faster service, a Heres what Ive tried: -Skybox burger -Buffalo Wing pizza: the taste is different but good. -Pepperoni and Sausage pizza: the pizza dough and sauce is wonderful. The cheese seems to be of a high quality. Generous toppings. -Chili Verde Burrito: generously stuffed with chicken, cheese, peppers. -Quesadilla: hearty portion of chicken, served with rice, black beans. Chicken was tender. A little heavy on the onions though. -Bacon & Blue Cheese burger: bun was dry, otherwise the burger was great. -BBQ Pork sandwich: BBQ sauce was bland. Pork was served cool which I didnt like. -Cobb Salad: Fresh lettuce. Large portions of meat, bacon, and toppings. -Penne Bolognese: penne were overcooked and mushy, sauce was greasy and bland. -Chicken Pesto panino: Delicious, light flavor of pesto. A little on the greasy side due to the cheese. Pros: good food, menu selection, atmosphere Cons: beverage prices, service more

Excellent service 10/20/2005

Date of visit: 10/20/2005 @ noon. My server was very friendly, prompt, and helpful. She recommended the buffalo chicken pizza and it was delicious. 8"" pizza for $9.99. I think it's a bit too expensive. Chicken is an inexpensive meat. $2.25 for a soda is way too much though. Pros: beverage prices more

Expect a fight if tip isn't big enough! 5/15/2005

Went to Sky Box for dinner on (10/02/04). Our waiter was awful. Chips and salsa appeared used, broken and piled on a plate. One even had hard melted cheese on it! Soft drinks are ridiculously overpriced (check menu) and apparently their policy of one refill means for the entire table. Of 3 of us only one person got one refill. Too many examples of terrible service, but include wrong orders, no checking on things, no fixing of orders, no refills, knowingly shorting us on our change. When two of us went to wash up, this guy actually came over and argued with the youngest girl in our group about the tip. It is unbelievable that Sky Box would retain such a jerk waiter. Should have paid attention to the negative reviews. They were right! Pros: Ambience was okay Cons: Mngr didn't follow up, Terrible Service, Overpriced Drinks more

Salt Lake City Elite 5/5/2005

Host staff was friendly and approachable, promptly greeted, server was very helpful with both bar selection and Menu selection. Burgers fish and chips made to order accompanied by fresh fries. They promptly found a game that i was looking for and seated me right in front of it. Game room fun and appropriate for all ages. I felt very safe having my kids run back and forth. Great Experience!!! Pros: Fresh Food, Friendly Service, Amazing Atmosphere Cons: Not enough time , Huge portions more

More like the ""Sports Thrill"". 8/27/2002

TV's, TV's, and more TV's. What more could a sports enthusiast want? It's a nice restaurant with really good food (reminds me a little of home cooking). The best spot is the private club hidden in the back. Try not to miss that or the 20 foot wide TV in it. I like it a lot. Pros: Patio, Covered parking, Full Bar more
