Make sure you take pictures the day you move in and the day you move out. Make sure dates are available on those pictures because they are trying to bill me for a bunch of work they said was caused by myself and their is no way it was. Get everything from them in writing if they say something is ok to do, like painting or anything. They will try to charge you for that kind of stuff as well. They are dirty working shady company and will go homeless before I ever go with them again. more

  • MECOSTA COUNTY
    The Legislative Act establishing the new county of Mecosta was passed February 11, 1959. The county seat was by the same authority fixed at the village of Leonard, whose name was changed in November following to Big Rapids. Mecosta County has been a separate judicial district since 1873.
    The first election for county officials was held on the first Monday in April 1859. One month later, the first meeting was held of the County Board of Supervisors, with only two organized townships in the county, Green and Leonard.

    The first child born in Mecosta County was Alice Brockway, born February 12, 1853 at where, what is now known as the village of Paris.
    The first village recorded in Mecosta County was Big Rapids, recorded in November 3, 1859 (first known as Glen Elm, then Leonard, and later as Big Rapids).

    The first pioneer railroad in Mecosta County was the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad. The latter part of May in 1870, they began to lay iron from Morl ey to Big Rapids at the rate of one mile a day in pleasant weather and completed to the site of the depot in Big Rapids on Monday, June 20, 1870.

    The Big Rapids Pioneer was the pioneer newspaper of this part of the state, the first number being issued April 17, 1862. As early as 1862, the question was raised for the need of a county jail. In 1968, a proposition to this effect was submitted to the voters and carried by a strong majority..
