Mixed feelings, overall wont go back considering competition 2/15/2010

My fiance' and I came to this restuarant after reading the reviews. She graduated from UM so she's been here before (although its been a few years). We've been to countless Thai restuarants, so we know what to expect from a quality Thai restuarant. We ordered the Coconut shrimp and Tom Kha Gai soup (coconut milk based soup with lemon grass) The coconut shrimp was very tasty although the shrimp were on the average size. The breading and coconut made them look bigger than they were. The Tom Kha Gai soup was very savory and had us excited about the Pad See ewe and Pad Thai we had ordered for the main dishes. When the waiter brought out the Pad See Ewe, we thought we had received someone elses order. The noodles were thin like the Pad Thais (they're supposed to be thick), the 5 pieces of broccoli was the type you get at publix (not the Chinese broccoli its supposed to come with) and the flavor was lacking. The Pad thai was average and lacked sprouts, cilantro, and lime. After that debacle, we decided to order the Thai Donuts which brought our spirits up a couple notches. All in all, I've got mixed feeling about Siam Lotus. The staff was courteous and attentive and they were even kind enough to delete the Pad see Ewweee from the bill. The only downfall were the main noodle dishes, which should be the backbone of a Thai restuarant. There are other restuarants in the neighboorhod that rival Siam Lotus' main dishes... Pros: Appetizers and dessert are very good. Cons: Main dishes need extensive working on. more

Good but not exceptional 1/18/2009

My wife and I ate at Siam Lotus Room late last night, Sunday. It was quiet. We ordered two salads, one mixed satay, pad see ewe and ka pow (a basil dish). The salads were excellent with very fresh ingredients and a delicious ginger dressing. The mixed chicken and beef satay was as ordinary as it gets. The pad see ewe with chicken was quite tasty and rates very good. The ka pow was ok and not better. We ate here last year and remember the food as being a little better. Overall, a solid, decent meal, but not exceptional. If you want exceptional, visit Ayara Thai Cuisine near the airport in LA. Pros: Salads Cons: A little off the beaten path. more

Excellent food, good prices, love the aquarium :-) 5/3/2008

This is one of those places that on first impression from outside may seem a bit iffy. It's a very plain and ordinary green building... Still, once you step inside, sit down and take the first bite of their food... the whole thing changes. My wife and I love this place when we really want to eat some amazing Thai food. I also took several of my co-workers to eat there and their first impression from outside was that I'd taken them to a dive place but once they ate there - they couldn't stop raving about how good the food was. I recommend that you sit by the aquarium in the back, it's simply beautiful and the fish are really friendly :-) Pros: Won't break the budget, friendly service, exquisite food Cons: Ugly outside of building, not for people who like fancy settings more

Authentic Thai? Not So Much! 3/10/2008

I headed to Siam Lotus for dinner one night after reading the rave reviews posted on City Search, and I was disappointed:\r \r 1. The hostess said that the waiting time was around 15-20 minutes, but I didn't get seated until 45 minutes later.\r 2. The server was far from being attentive. She took the order without writing it down and didn't get the order right. She was too busy attending to the table next to mine that she forgot about me.\r 3. The food was below average: far from being authentic Thai and bland. The tom yum soup tasted heavily of fish sauce and nothing else, while the eggplant dish was swimming in oil. \r 4. The cook didn't make the noodle dish spicy as ordered. When the server took the noodle dish back to the kitchen, the cook deliberately made the dish too spicy to eat (it was as if he dumped the entire chili powder on it).\r 5. Siam Lotus Thai Restaurant is terribly overpriced considering the quality of food and service.\r \r I was, however, pleased with the busboy. He always walked around asking if people needed extra rice and refilling your drink.\r \r Pros: The busboy / Server Assistant provides better service than the server Cons: Bad food, bad service, terrible cook more

Top of its game! 12/13/2007

I've spent 2 months traveling through Thailand and I've eaten in many thai restaurants in the US and Canada and I have to say that I was very pleased with quality and quantity of the food at the Siam Lotus. The plates were generous and the flavors truly authentic. They also have speciality items that you won't find in most thai restaurants like Miam Kam.\r \r I would also like to mention the top notch service which is friendly and relaxed giving it a family oriented appeal.\r \r If you crave Thai in Miami, this place won't disappoint! more

Best Thai food in Miami 9/14/2007

I love Thai food and this was some of the best Thai food I've ever had (and I've been to Thailand), definitely the best I've had in Miami. The restaurant is elegantly appointed, the service was great and every dish was outstanding. My main course was the Massaman Beef Curry and I'm longing to go back for more. I highly recommend this restaurant. Pros: Great food, great service, great atmosphere more

Delightful Dining 12/27/2006

Our visit to the Siam Lotus Room was lovely in every way. My husband and I seek out restaurants that offer beautifully prepared foods, extensive wine lists, and attentive service. We found all of that and more at the Siam Lotus Room. The Thai food is exquisite and the prices are reasonable. Enjoy, we did! more

Thai seasfood dishes are unparalleled and the wine list is second to no other Thai restaurant! 11/29/2006

Bar non the best Thai food I have ever had! I have been to the Siam Lotus Room for a romantic dinner for two, with my two year old daughter and for our wedding reception. In each instance the service, food and ambience were exceptional. When we visit Miami the Siam Lotus Room is always at the top of our dining list. Usually more than once!!\r \r George Glass, Manchester Center, Vermont more

Great food and customer service, great location 11/29/2006

Lived in Miami for 20 years, and by far some of the best meals our family has had, have been at Siam Lotus, with Atchana and her fine staff. Whether for an amazing lunch special or a Friday night dinner, you can't go wrong with Siam Lotus. We love the Yellow Curry Chicken and my kids insist on the Thai Coconut Soup, which is to die for. It's a large restaurant with plenty of parking, and a great looking fish tank. I could go on, but if you are looking for great Thai food in the South Miami area, look no where else. Pros: Great location, easy parking, great service, excellent Curry dishes, great value more

the best Thai food in Miami! 11/28/2006

Siam Lotus has it all -- an extensive mouth-watering menu, lovely setting, excellent attentive service, delightful, caring, and committed owners, and truly the best Thai food in Miami, if not South Florida. I've been coming there for years, and travel happily from Fort Lauderdale just to savor an evening of delectable cuisine, with more-than-ample servings and a superb vegetarian selection... and no problem substituting tofu and other preferred changes whenever asked. I've yet to have anything less than perfect -- mega-applause and kudos to Atchana and Steve! Pros: scrumptious food; attentive, prompt, friendly, and courteous service; positive feng shui atmosphere. Cons: absolutely NONE! more

Every customer becomes a ""regular."" Consistently excellent food, service and atmosphere. 11/28/2006

A lovely family-owned authentic Thai restaurant. Food is to die for - including a large array of vegetarian dishes, seafood, and the usual Thai fare (ranging from wimpy mild to masochistic spicy), all prepared perfectly. Don't miss the whole ginger snapper or the Tom Kar Gai soup. Beautiful romantic atmosphere for couples, and a huge salt-water fish tank to entertain children. Great wine list too. Pros: Good location, ample parking, friendly staff, excellent food & service, pretty inside. Cons: None that I can think of. more

Best lobster thai ever, excellent customer service, surprising wine and imported beer list 11/28/2006

Cozy restaurant embracing romance and comfort at the same time. Excellent seafood dishes cooked to perfection with 5 star sauces. Variety of dishes for every taste expectation. Family owned restaurant with obvious investment in customer service, excellent food, and spirit availability. If I lived in Miami I would be hard pressed not to visit this restaurant on a regular basis if not nightly. Lobster dishes are exquisite. Can not wait to return! more

Best Thai restaurant in Miami Dade!! 11/27/2006

We love Thai food and when we moved to Miami we tried several restaurants until we found the best one of all, SIAM LOTUS ROOM!!! Lovely atmosphere, excellent service and presentation, incredibly affordable prices, intriguing wine list, and great, great food! Superb Pad Thai and the most tatsteful Panang ever. But don?t be afraid to head into new territory. From start to finish your meal will always be that perfect combination of tingly hot and flavorful. Definitely a must-go-to restaurant!\r \r Pros: Great place to recommend family and friends, delicious food, special people. Definetely a favorite! Cons: NONE! more

Superb house recipes, friendly atmosphere 11/27/2006

This family-run Thai restaurant is a true gem in South Miami. Siam Lotus stands out like a giant green thumb just off US1 - you won't want to miss it. Prices are moderate for a selection of house specialties that are varied and sumptuous. From the colorful exotic fish tank to the abundant bamboo, Siam Lotus owners have done a fine job in creating a decor that is both comfortable and tasteful. Wine lovers will appreciate the excellent selection both by the glass and bottle. Top off your meal with the classic ""thai donuts."" more

I don't leave Miami without a visit! 11/27/2006

Asian restaurants usually are 4th (or 5th) on my lists of 'must go' restaurants, but the Green Thai restaurant is an exception. It is one of my all time favorites and I never leave the greater Miami area without a trip to this restaurant. I have yet to receive an order that wasn't prepared and presented superbly. Things that are supposed to be hot arrive at the table hot. Things that are supposed to be cool or cold arrive at the table cool or cold. The environment is comfortable and the smells are marvelous!\r \r Every time I visit I'm greeted with smiles that make me feel like an old friend. Did I mention that they have a great wine list? Great food, great beverage, feel like an old friend and still have money left over - don't even think about it - just go!!! Pros: Easy to find if you are traveling, great food and great prices Cons: none that I've found! more

Consistently delicious Thai food and gracious service 11/27/2006

The Siam Lotus Room has long been a favorite of this family. The food is authentic, delicious and affordable. The restaurant is family-owned and it shows in the pride and care the service staff take with each guest. The experience at Siam Lotus Room is consistently pleasant and is perfect for all sorts of occassions - first date, early dinner with a toddler, late dinner after a movie, and more. The vibe is chill, the food is fantastic, the people are wonderful and your meal won't break the bank. Two thumbs up. Pros: good for the entire family, lots of parking, reasonable prices, extensive menu more

Best thai food around! 7/24/2006

I read that supercritical review about horrible dining experience and had to wonder if it was some other restaurant somewhere in the Twilight Zone!! I certainly WAS NOT the Siam Lotus that I have eaten at many times. It is my teenagers FAVORITE restaurant and she is PICKY, picky. She squeals with delight when she hears we are going. The food is fresh, none of those gamey shrimp you get at some places. The portions are generous and as spicy as you want. I am Jamaican (home of hell-hot chicken) so I know spicy when I taste it! I have always gotten as much rice as I want and they make changes to orders (I love carrots and they add it to my main course WITHOUT charging me more). \r \r PLUS, come on now, the prices are reasonable, even for this single parent. You can of course go to South Beach/Miami Beach, pay more and get less tasty food. I have been to two places there that purport to sell Thai food, please!! As for the double wide trailer jab, how petty can you get? Not for one minute did I feel like I was in a trailer. I am sure they are not perfect and I think the owner would appreciate hearing your comments when you are there. I always see her going around to the diners making conversation so she seems very accessible. I rate Siam Lotus a GREAT dining experience, as have the several friends and family I have recommended it to. Pros: Plenty of parking, family friendly yet date friendly too more

Poor service; dinner in a double-wide trailer 6/7/2006

Horrible dining experince. The dining room, which appears to be a converted double-wide trailer, was half full when we came in for dinner. For such a location, the menu was certainly fully priced. \r \r It took a while for the waiter to take our order. The appetizers came after about 30 minutes. Then, we had to wait for about 45 minutes for the main course. The wait was so long that we had to request the hostess twice to check with the kitchen as our waitress was not responsive and sulky. When the food finally came, the waitress literally slam the dishes on the table.\r \r The food was bland, not spicy at all. The waitress came with a silver rice pot and offered us a little scoop of rice each. Never came back to see if we needed a little more. Never came back to ask about the food. In fact, I had to ask the bus boy for another bottle of beer.\r \r Worst dining experience ever. Never ever coming back to this place and definitely not recommended. Pros: Food was OK Cons: Poor, slow service. Poor ambience. Pricey. more

The Green Room 5/31/2006

I've been eating at this place for a few years now. It never gets old, and the food is more or less the same. At one point, they were revamping the restaurant and the dishes itself, but they kept most flavors the same. The ambiance is nice and quiet usually and lights are dimmed at night. Nice place for a celebration or a business lunch. You usually never have to wait for a table (unless its Sat night). Their Thai is not the ""BEST"" but its still very good, and they do serve large portions (you can usually share one plate if you're not a big eater). Lunch is great too -good prices- and their service is fast in case you are in a rush to get back to work. Dessert is limited, their Thai donuts are the best. Their Thai Tea/Coffee is great as well. Pros: always a seat, large portions, variety of food Cons: when busy, slow serv, higher dinner prices, limited dessert menu more
