Shuckers has an awesome Shrimp and Grits entree. Drinks were cold and delivered promptly. Server was helpful with guiding me through the menu. I recommend to anyone who likes good seafood and great service. more

Tim & Obie would be sad.... 8/9/2009

...so a group of us planned an outing to see Julie & Julia with an early supper afterwards @ Shuckers... first visit for us all to the "new" one. MAJOR disappointment! We first ordered the Lobster Queso Dip...it was so runny you could have sipped through a straw! It should be on the menu as a soup/bisque and not a dip! There was no way it would stay on a chip and when we dipped, it flowed off in dribbles... we told the waitress it wasn't fit to eat w/out soup spoons and her reply was "oh, that's the way it is, it's served that way, and other folks say the same thing." Well DUH... if OTHER folks are saying the same thing, it needs FIXing! (When i arrived i saw friends there who had ordered some too, and were getting up to leave, and it was obvious they didn't eat theirs either, but guess I'm just more vocal and not going to pay for sub par food.) With a fix to the consistency, it would probably be pretty good, or remarketed in the soup category. We got a replacement of crab dip which was nice. The other appetizers ordered were "ok," nothing outstanding nor worth going back for. There was a periodic loud "banging" noise coming from what seemed to be the oyster bar area that happened several times while we were there... we never did figure out what it was, but we all about jumped off our seats when it happened. The other issue was that it was HOT AS H*** in there! My friends and I (who had on shorts/dresses) literally put napkins under our legs to absorb perspiration... and wiped sweat from our brow the entire time we were in there. When you walk in, if you were a patron of the original Shucker's, you'll g.a.s.p. and disappointment in the mere "feel" of the place will be immediate! It feels very "industrial" in there with all the metal and "boxyness" and color scheme. This is NOT "Shuckers" in any shape, form or fashion... from the menu, food, service (so so with waitress borderlining on over-bearing), ambiance, etc. Too bad it has the "name" cause for folks who knew and loved the "real" Shucker's and go here, they are in for a rude awakening. Not sure that w/out changes this place will have longevity.... I have chatted with others who have been there once and swear they will never set foot in the place again... and w/out repeat bizz and that kind of word 'o mouth... a place has no "legs"... let's hope things shape up SOON over there! Pros: Kewl Logo, average service Cons: Food was awful, it was HOT in there, LOUD, industrial... more

I love shuckers! Their food is great, especially the crab legs. The servers are friendly and attentive. If you need anything just ask. If something happens to not be right, let them know and they'll fix it. The atmosphere is casual and laid back... I feel like I'm at the beach everytime I go. more

We've gone to 'Shuckers' now twice, thinking that the second time would be better. We were wrong. We had the 'all you can eat' crab legs/oysters/shrimp, which were 'okay' (at best) both times. Nothing was hot, and they were all watery. The service was less than stellar, and then the check was wrong. I would not recommend this place. more

Overpriced and Bad, Bad, Bad 1/30/2009

We drove all the way from Fuquay Varina (40 Minutes) in anticipation for good oysters and seafood. This place just sucked. The hostess and waitress were both uninformative and rude. The oysters on the half shell were dirty and disgusting. The small slab of tuna my husband ordered was just that, a small slab. And the $30.00 Dungeon crabs were cold and tasteless. All in all, I suggest anyone looking for good oysters and seafood go somewhere else. And if your a ratings kind of person, they only had a 91; pretty scary for a seafood restaurant. Don't waste your time or money here; huge disappointment! more

Shucker's is always good for an enjoyable time. The oysters are always good, and I've often found pearls. Be prepared to get messy. The atmosphere is casual, and if you go at night there's often music and a sand pit to dance!! The price is reasonable, as well! A great place to take the family, although it is a bar, so it can get smokey. more

Are they shutting down 9/20/2008

Not sure what is going on with this locaiton, it seems like the employees have just given up. They could care less if you come in or not, and when you ask to speak to the manager (Katie) is was even worse. No personality or charm that you would expect from someone speaking for your business. What ever happened to the smiling faces we are use to seeing here? Our last waiterest (I think her name was Misty) was a real joy just to be around, maybe she bailed before they closed the doors. What a shame the food is excellent when they have it in stock ... which is now random. Pros: Fresh seafood ... soup is great! Cons: Service is poor, personality is worse... more

Awesome, easy-going, local seafood 9/17/2008

Shuckers is a great local seafood joint, relax, take it easy, don't worry about rushing to get what you want. Sit down, enjoy the great company of locals and regulars. Be friendly and enjoy the hush puppies available immediately. Order seafood from the 'fish of the day' menu and watch the games on the tvs over the bar. Good food, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly staff. I'll definitely be back. Pros: Easy going, comfortable, good food more

Worst Experience in a Restuarant -- Ever 6/14/2008

Beware of the owner who is also the manager-- he is extremely rude and unappreciative of customers. My experience: I called 5:40pm Sunday Father's Day for advance seating for 7 people for the oyster bar and asked for oyster bucket prices explaining we were all hungry for steamed oysters. I was told no wait time as only 2 people were at the bar --but if there was a wait when we arrived, we would be seated first as no one was currently on the wait list. We arrived about 6pm and the hostess acknowledged we were on the list ahead of 7 other names (3 currently crossed off). The place was completely packed. We explained again we were hungry for steamed oysters and the hostess advised us we could get steamed oysters at any table too. We agreed to take the first available of either bar or table seating -- we just wanted steamed oysters we told the hostess. After waiting for about 20 minutes and noticing other parties being seated ahead of us, one of us went in to ask an estimated seating time and was told it would only be about another 10 minutes. At 7:10pm (70 min wait) we were seated. When the waitress came to take our drink order we knew exactly what we wanted and ordered our drinks plus 3 buckets of steamed oysters to start off with. About 10 minutes later the waitress returned to tell us they had just run out of oysters. We were obviously upset at this point and asked to speak with the manager. The owner arrived at our table almost instantly-- and we initially took this as a good sign. We explained our situation and then made the mistake of requesting some sort of dispensation for our experience. The owner went off on a tangent explaining what a bad week he had with distributers and upset customers like us-- and how everyone wants something from him. He kept saying "it is what it is" which i took to mean-- go screw yourself. So we all politely got up and shook his hand acknowledging his week was obviously worse than ours and we left Shuckers-- never to return. Pros: None Cons: Owner is rude and unappreciative of customers more

Shucker's was definately a dissappointment. The drinks were weak. I would have had to drink 6 or 7 to get a buzz going and I am a light weight. My Crab cakes were at room temp. The crab was crab and nothing special. The only thing we did enjoy was the shrimp. The service was good aside from the fact the the "all you can eat crab, shrimp and muscles" is not really the case. All they bring you is crab and if you would like to try the shrimp that is suppose to come with the all you can you have to ask for it and don't think that it is going to come in a timely fashion, oh no about a half hour later. The worst part of the night was the not so honest waitress decided to accept the $20 tip we left on the table (on a $90 ticket) and then give herself another $20 tip on our credit card. Within about a week we were credited (at our request)with no explanation or anything. I would have liked a explanation or a free drink. Some sort of acknowledgment. If you really want some room temp seafood and some weak drinks go to Shuckers, you will have a blast. Oh yah don't forget to use cash only or the oh' so sweet waitress will probably buy herself something a little extra with your credit card. BEWARE!!!!!! Cons: The waitress's like to give themselfs tips with your credit card! more

Great service, lousy rules 11/1/2007

My husband and I have been there lots of times. The servers are very attentive and friendly. The owner is another story. The last time we went there they had 1/2 price appetizers, so we ordered the oyster appetizer and a bowl of soup. When the check came both were full price. We sent the check back to be corrected. When the server returned, she explained that the owner had refused to give the discount and she suggested we press the isuee. We had just gotten off work and weren't in the mood to argue. The server got a good tip and the owner got an angry note. I can see how soup might be debatable, but the oysters were clearly marked appetizer on the menu. That place is off the list for good. The seafood is expensive. It is claimed to be fresh off the boat, though. I'm not a big fan of seafood in general, particularly fried with a slaw cup and hush puppies. I usually ordered the crab cake sandwich. It was overdone sometimes, but otherwise good. more

There must be a thousand restaurants in the Triangle. So when I decide to give a restaurant my business I think that they appreciate it and truly want to do their best to keep me coming back. Shucker's is obviously the exception to this observation. I came to Shucker's this evening after along hard day of work with one thought on my mind. A cold beer and some good oysters. This was by far the worst dining experience of my life. For my girlfriend I ordered the "ALL YOU CAN EAT" flounder special and I ordered oysters on the half shell and a pitcher of beer. After the beer arrived, her meal came first. All by it's self. This for me is an issue because where I was raised we all got in the habit of eating our meals at the same time. Then my oysters on the half shell showed up. Now once again, Shucker's is the exception to oysters on the half shell. I have been all over this country and the term oysters on the half shell usually is used to describe "raw" oysters, chilled down ice cold and served with lemon and cocktail sauce. First the oysters cooked then they finally arrived raw and I ate one and gagged. These were the dirtiest oysters I have ever seen and served at room temperature. I finally called over the guy at the bar and told him to cancel the entire order. The flounder came out about five minutes later regardless. My girlfriend was never at any time asked if she would like more flounder. I guess "ALL YOU CAN EAT" means something else at Shucker's as well. What was delivered fresh and on time with a smile was our check. We did not ask for it. We were actually ready to order a couple of Landshark Beers since we had never tried them before. I guess she was cutting her losses by delivering the check. Yes the oysters and my flounder were deducted. But I left hungry and upset. more

Good Seafood if you Like Fried 5/5/2007

Just moved here from Ft. Lauderdale so we are used to some pretty good seafood. Went to Shuckers with some friends and LOVED the atmosphere. Very casual and looks like a shack (well, it is a shack!). Got there at about 8 pm so it was pretty busy. We were seated right away but they were all out of every fresh fish on the menu except for grouper! How can a seafood place be out of fresh seafood? Regardless, we ordered our meals and it took one and a half hours for the order to come. Did it bother us. . .not really. The wait staff was nice and the drinks from the bar were flowing freely. We are going to give Shuckers another try because the wait staff was very nice and we loved the casual atmosphere. The food was all right. . .nothing to write home about. Pros: Casual atmosphere, friendly wait staff Cons: Ran out of fresh seafood more

Shuckers is a great little oyster bar with great seafood and a rustic ambience. Makes one feel like they are down at the beach. Cold frosty beer and oysters...mmm, steamers are great too. This is another place that makes you feel at home. Great service also. Shuckers has a nice patio bar with live music from time to time. Check it out -- The Social Light Pros: Thumbs up Cons: None more

The best seafood in Raleigh 8/23/2005

dervish Provided by Partner
It's small, so there is often a wait but if you are sick of the giant plates of fried seafood that Raleigh seems to specialize in, give this place a shot. All of their food is fresh and delicious and even the all you can eat crab legs aren't previously frozen. Prices are reasonable and on Fridays and Saturdays they have live music on their deck. It's a little bit of the beach tucked between Raleigh and Wake Forest. Pros: Food, Atmosphere Cons: Location more

Oysterbars were born on the eastcoast. They generally are a dive joint set back off the road, not corporately owned, and operated by the owners themselves. CHACHING this is a jewel it fits the bill, if you don't have a good experience here then look deep into yourself, for therein will lie the problem. Pros: food, ambience, goodparking more

Great little spot that isn't flashy in the least. Simple menu w/o lots of options but what they have is really good. The stuffed mushrooms are well worth the drive. Service is a little slow but everyone seems to love their job. Perfect spot to go for basic seafood. Pros: great seafood more
