...so a group of us planned an outing to see Julie & Julia with an early supper afterwards @ Shuckers... first visit for us all to the "new" one. MAJOR disappointment!
We first ordered the Lobster Queso Dip...it was so runny you could have sipped through a straw! It should be on the menu as a soup/bisque and not a dip! There was no way it would stay on a chip and when we dipped, it flowed off in dribbles... we told the waitress it wasn't fit to eat w/out soup spoons and her reply was "oh, that's the way it is, it's served that way, and other folks say the same thing." Well DUH... if OTHER folks are saying the same thing, it needs FIXing! (When i arrived i saw friends there who had ordered some too, and were getting up to leave, and it was obvious they didn't eat theirs either, but guess I'm just more vocal and not going to pay for sub par food.) With a fix to the consistency, it would probably be pretty good, or remarketed in the soup category.
We got a replacement of crab dip which was nice.
The other appetizers ordered were "ok," nothing outstanding nor worth going back for.
There was a periodic loud "banging" noise coming from what seemed to be the oyster bar area that happened several times while we were there... we never did figure out what it was, but we all about jumped off our seats when it happened.
The other issue was that it was HOT AS H*** in there! My friends and I (who had on shorts/dresses) literally put napkins under our legs to absorb perspiration... and wiped sweat from our brow the entire time we were in there.
When you walk in, if you were a patron of the original Shucker's, you'll g.a.s.p. and disappointment in the mere "feel" of the place will be immediate! It feels very "industrial" in there with all the metal and "boxyness" and color scheme.
This is NOT "Shuckers" in any shape, form or fashion... from the menu, food, service (so so with waitress borderlining on over-bearing), ambiance, etc. Too bad it has the "name" cause for folks who knew and loved the "real" Shucker's and go here, they are in for a rude awakening. Not sure that w/out changes this place will have longevity.... I have chatted with others who have been there once and swear they will never set foot in the place again... and w/out repeat bizz and that kind of word 'o mouth... a place has no "legs"... let's hope things shape up SOON over there!
Pros: Kewl Logo, average service
Cons: Food was awful, it was HOT in there, LOUD, industrial...
