Shik Do Rock Korean Restaurant

My wife and I love Shik Do Rock (which translates as Epicurean), and go there at least once a month, if not more. Contrary to the crazy (!!) reviews I've been reading, the staff is very friendly and sweet, and they remembered our orders by heart, even after just the first two visits. We're both vegetarian, so Korean food in general can be a little intimidating. But the vegetarian dolsot bibimbap (hot stone pot with sizzing rice, tofu, veggies, and mushrooms) is so delicious, healthy, and satisfying that we keep going back for more. It comes with or without egg, so it's easy to order a completely vegan meal. Also they bring about 6 or 7 small side dishes to eat while you wait. I love the sprouts, and especially the yam noodles. I'm from LA and next to actually grubbing in Korea, Los Angeles has the best Korean food in the states.I just moved here last week and was dying to try some good Korea food.I was lookin forward to having some decent food at Shikdorak(after findin them on the internet) so I ordered three dishes to test out the cooking skills of this place.Kalbi, daengjang jigae, & dak do ri tang. The waitress there, ""In-ah"" made a very rude/inappropriate remark about why I was ordering three dishes.I told her I was comparing the dishes to Korea Town in LA and that it wasn't that odd at all. She went on to say that she thought it was weird and that I was the first person to do so. Hm, can you say--ignorant? Jeez, people, get out in the world. Ordering three dishes at a restaurant might be tad extravagant but not like having four arms. She was incredibly weird, giggling, insecure, catty and not to mention, uneducated.\r I ate a little of the kalbi and jigae but the dak do ri tang was TERRIBLE. Worst I've ever had. If you're in a pinch and want some kimchi and something that resembles Korean food, ok--it might do the trick. Other wise? Skip it. \r Pros: Close to Berkeley Cons: Everything else. more

Ownership has changed again. But, wow what a change. The restaurant has had a wonderful face lift. The food has remained the same. It's good and fresh. more
