What an experience! I am 5 months pregnant and have looked all over for a TRUE ORGANIC spray tan. Most spas don""t know what ingredients are in their products and I truly don""t want to chance anything when it comes to my baby. I called and spoke to the owner who was very informative. She gave me a list of the products which I showed my doctor and he approved. I went in for a spray tan feeling confident about the product that was being used. I asked about the natural ""organic"" ingredients in the sprays 2 times and i never got an answer! How am I supposed to go there and spend money when they do not live up to their name?! Pros: atmosphere maybe... Cons: bad customer service more

By far i had the best facial ever.. I`ve been around the city and tried alot of facials and finally i found someone who understands my needs and my skin never looked better. I had ELISA and i highly recommend her.. My experience was similar to the first-class treatment I have eperienced i Europe. Also, the waxing didn't hurt at all,even in the most sensitive areas and i wasn't red after at all. I love the place and i will be returning!! more

On my wedding day friends asked me, ""When did you go away?!"" The spray tan I got at Shade Bar was THAT natural-looking. I only went once previously to check it out; meant to come back and try different shades. But I knew what a great job Maria did the first time and totally trusted that it would look fabulous for my big day—and it did. They cover all the details (cover your nails with latex, dab at wrists, etc to avoid odd lines). And you CANNOT beat the fact that the spray tan is applied by an experienced person and not a machine. Also, she didn't wear a mask and she does this all the time so you know this spray is not harmful. (Small bonus: The mango scent is great--not cloying.) Ok - so this was my first time going to SHADE BAR after reading reviews here on Citysearch. I wanted to get my Eyebrows shaped and was not sure where to go. \r \r Considering all the obvious problems that people have when waxing their eyebrows - especially us guys - I wanted to make sure that I did not go somewhere where I would end up walking out with -- pencil thin eyebrows looking like ""surprise eyebrows"".\r \r I called and spoke with SANDRA on the phone and I explained to her that I wanted to get my eyebrows shaped BUT needed someone that also does guys eyebrows. She was very very friendly, professional and knew exactly what to say to relax me and to make me want to go to the Spa. I wanted to go right there and then and she told me if I could get there within 10 minutes, she would do them for me. And so I did.\r \r I walked into the SHADE BAR SPA and was immediately impressed with the color and the environment. VERY VERY CLEAN and WARM and INVITING. Sandra met me and right away made me feel comfortable.\r \r We went into the room for the waxing and 15 minutes later my eyebrows were done and looked great. She knows what she is doing and clearly (just look at her eyebrows) knows what a great eyebrow shape is all about.\r \r She is also very very friendly, has a great smile and is genuinely interested in making you feel comfortable and happy with the end result. I've been to spas like Bliss and The Red Door on fifth avenue. This facial topped all the rest. The ingredients are organic, and for once I didn't look like I had been beaten when I left. My skin was soft and immaculate. I was ready to fall asleep on the table it was so relaxing. The staff is so nice, you're in there waiting for the catch, but there isn't any! Finally a ""city quality"" facial on Ditmars. The price is right too. I really cannot think of one negative thing to say about this place. If only they did brazilians and nails though.... The Hawaiin Honey Taro facial is a incredible!! Absolutley going back soon. more

Very nice clean and serene place. The staff was really wonderful. I went there with my mom and she felt comfortable and happy. I had the facial and the body treatment - relaxing and the girl was careful and sweet. At the end I was tempted to get the facial cream and instead she offered to give me samplers first so that i can try before buying anything! So sweet!\r If you are used going to bliss type of spas note that they don't give you flip flops and it's a bit tiny place but overall great experience!! Would go back. I had the pleasure of going to Shade bar this week and getting their body scrub, body butter and facial and I can honestly say I AM IN LOVE! First, the staff is not only incredibly nice but they are so friendly and very attentive. They carry ORGANIC products and let me tell you they smell amazing. When I got home my husband loved how soft my skin was. Then I had a facial and that left my face feeling lightweight and really really clean. If you are on the fence about checking this place out ... DONT WAIT!!! It is so easy to get to and the staff is amazing but the experience is to die for! I already booked my appointments for the next 6 months. Hope to see you there! OMGGGGG! is the first thing that comes out of my mouth when I think of Shade Bar. The beautiful red walls and decor stopped me in my tracks BUT what pushed me to walk in was the sign that said ORGANIC SPRAY TAN..... what!!!??? So, I walked in and was greeted by beautiful girls with big smiles :) i LOVED that! I was very impressed. I inquired about the tan and they explained in such detail that i felt i could spray tan people my self HA! ,... I was so nervous and skeptical because of past experiences I have had ( looking like an orange troll at my cousins wedding!!!) ... With that said I walked in the room, stripped down- the spray tan tech ( not a machine with 3 settings) customized my color and carefully sprayed me from head to toe. I looked beautifully bronzed. I was told to wait 10 hours before showering. tick tick tick, 10 hours later i jumped in the shower and saw the color wash off. I was afraid to look in the mirror . When i saw myself i couldnt believe my eyes! OMG i had the SICKEST most natural, bronziest, glowing tan ever! \r \r I was treated like a VIP, my results are amazing and the prices were soooo sweet!!!! Pros: Everything! more

I am getting married in two weeks and I decided to pamper myself before my big day!\r I booked a facial and a body scrub. When I arrived I was so impressed with the decor! \r I felt like I had walked into a trendy spa in SOHO! Everything is so beautiful from the red venetian walls to the amazing gold chandelleir! I had a honey kalo facial (which is organic and imported from hawaii) :) .\r I have never smelled something like that before! I walked out of my facial glowing, relaxed and without a doubt convinced that this is the best facial I have ever had. After that I picked my scent for my body scrub ( 5 diffrent scents all so amazing, again imported from hawaii). During that time it dawned to me that getting a trial spray tan would not be such a bad idea. I consulted with the spray tan technician and she actually customized my shade. So I had the Heavenly Tan package (body scrub and organic spray tan). The most amazing color! A golden brown color and an amazing application. So natural and beautiful. Yeah! I've gotten quite a few facials over the years, and I always feel like I wasted my money. Finally, a good one! This was the best facial I've ever had. And it only cost $85. Elisa was fantastic-- she was knowledgeable it's obvious she genuinely loves what she does.She extracted every pore on my face (I needed it) while keeping me nice and relaxed.Her massage was magical!!!!She really dug out my pores. I have small black heads on my nose that are always there, even after a facial. Not this time! My face is clean ,glowing as a whistle and it's not all red and splotchy or anything. It was great! I'll be back. Shade Bar Spa is a wonderful place to be come in and pamper yourself. more

Shade Bar Spa is a gorgeous place, the service is great, the lovely girls that work there are very knowledgeable, professional and sweet, and ?ssssst? it is cheaper than the two places I used to go to in Manhattan! (I hope they don?t raise the prices now that I said that). First, I had a wonderful facial and then a full body spray tan and I left feeling like I just came back from the Caribbean? I loved it and everybody was complimenting me for days! I have been back for other services (I had a hot stone massage that was incredible) and I was never disappointed. Every time I am there, I feel as if I escaped into a world of calm, balance and beauty. I am thrilled that they moved to Astoria and I am telling all my friends and family about them. This was the perfect place to go to have a relaxing time. I used their new spa facility and it was amazing. They make sure the spa facility is not to busy so you get to have a relaxing time and enjoy service they have to offer. The serivce was perfect. And the prices were great!
