Michelle was highly recommended to me by a friend because I hadn't yet found a place to get my hair cut in New York. She did a wonderful job! I was thrilled with the cut. Other pluses: no hard sell (really not much of a sell at all) of their products, comfy ""chairs"" for the hair washing stations, yummy tea, Michelle's great personality, and an extremely comfy atmosphere. I also went here to have my hair colored after a disaster at another salon (Taina Salon - TERRIBLE), and Mildred made my hair color amazing. She took the time to listen to what I wanted, brought out a picture to show me what she was picturing - it was spot on - and then after putting on the dye continued to check on it and make sure it was setting enough. At the end, it was shiny and with the perfect tint! Expensive though it may be, I learned my lesson - I tried to save money at the other salon with a Groupon coupon and I ended up spending more than I did at Shade and ended up with weird faded color. Never again - Shade Bar from now on! Wonderful place!! more

Can't say enough AMAZING things about this Hair Salon, the best color i have had in years... I have been going to a salon downtown for many years, until my friend mentioned Michelle @ Shade Bar H-Studio.\r \r My co worker came in to work two weeks ago and her hair looked the best i have ever seen it look. She told me, ""you have to go to Michelle, she is great"" although it was hard to get out of my comfort zone, I gave it a try, and i must say Michele is a fantastic colorist. \r \r They use a different method which i have never seen or had before, and to be honest i don't think i can ever go back to foils again. My hair never looked so natural and healthy. From the color to the blow out, they did a great job, i was very pleased with everyone, and will be going back in a few weeks... more

Best Brazilian Bikini Wax in Astoria for sure is this place.\r I never ever ever write reviews, but this one I thought deserved it. \r all I can say is WOW and WOW! Anais my aesthetician did a thorough job! She was friendly and took her time to wax all the hair out, afterward she uses a tweezers to get the ingrown or the short hair out. Plus, it came from a sanitize oven unlike other Asian places in the area.\r \r A plus is no ingrown hair and she uses a pastel Pink wax . After all is done no sticky residue and clean and baby smooth bottom :-D\r \r THANK YOU Anais, this will be my go to spot!! more

Anais is THE BEST – My best friend told me about Anais Bikini Waxing techniques, so I went to Shade Spa in Astoria Queens where she works, so I give it a try and once I have a very sensitive skin I was very afraid . For the first time in a long time I have gotten a hair cut that works. Weeks after the cut I am able to style it. To me that is the sign of a good hair cut. In addition the experience at Shade salon has been friendly and attentive without an attitude which would make me feel uncomfortable. More importantly, Michelle , who I chose because she loves to cut short hair, is wonderful. She listens to what you are going for; makes suggestions based on your hair texture and then cuts hair as though each piece is a creative work. Add the wonderful massage she gives before and during shampooing and it is a win-win-win situation. I recommend this salon with no hesitation.Excellent service !!!! more

This salon is like heaven. It's so glam inside. Chic!\r \r First of all, anything Goldwell Concept, is great.\r A very solid and affordable salon that's close to home. You can call a day or two before the preferred date appointment and can usually still schedule it with ease. this is totally the best place in this area. \r \r I read some reviews that Michelle was really good so I made an appointment with her and was really impressed! \r I have now been going to her for a 8 months and she has cut and highlighted my hair multiple times and my hair always looks great. I love that Michelle is really professional and not super chatty who wants to hear your life story. more

So easy to talk to and makes you feel completely comfortable. \r \r As for the wax, I love it. This was my first time getting a spray tan and I couldn't have been happier with the result! I got my tan on a Thursday with Daylingh for a wedding I was in on Sunday. The entire weekend I got complimented on my gorgeous glow! She was wonderful and made me feel totally comfortable, and did a really great job. it lasted for as long as she said it would, (almost 10 days), which i was surprised by. I'll definitely be returning the next time I need some quick color. more

Shade Bar Waxing services is quite possibly the most well-managed and cleanest waxing establishment I've ever encountered. From the gorgeous decor to the very friendly front desk staff and the superb service to the ease of their online reservation system, this place fantastic in every aspect. I live in California, but when I'm in the area visiting family, I go to Shade for Waxing and see Anais. She's absolutely amazing. She's very professional and such a wonderful person to talk to. \r \r 40 reviews and 5 stars overall on Citysearch and Yelp? Yup. That sounds about right. more

This Hair Salon and Spa is fabulous! It has the feel of a shi shi salon without being pretentious or uptight. The staff is friendly and attentive and they make you feel like a superstar! Wow! I never thought being tan could be so quick easy and painless. Yes, we've all heard the Oompa Loompa horror stories...so I was a bit apprehensive at first. \r \r Daylingh turned that all around though...\r I'm a pretty shy person when it comes to stripping down for a stranger, but instantly she made me feel extremely comfortable with the whole process, and within ten minutes I was golden brown. \r \r If you're going away for a last minute trip or have an event she always fits you into her schedule and makes it convenient for you. \r \r She's the best! I was trying to grow my hair out... but I admit that I am not one of those people whom are extremely fond of hot weather. Humidity + thick hair = not a lot of fun! I guess it was time for some change, and hair grows back, right?\r \r \r I booked an appointment online with Michelle for a Friday after work. I got an email and txt Msg confirmation too, which I think was very nice. I came in a little early, and took a seat and accepted a glass of Wine! Yes! They offer you your choice of: coffee, tea, water, wine or champagne! I don't usually drink Wine, but I figured it was a nice way to relax.\r \r Shortly thereafter I was greeted by Michelle and I discussed my hair and what I wanted to do with it. It was a bit busy in there, so another hairdresser (I believe) had to wash my hair for me, which I was immensely grateful for. Great customer service! Then I sat with Michelle and she scolded me for Keratin Complex (I just can't deal with the thickness, the waves, and humidity!) because it does end up damaging your hair a bit. My hair was a bit past my shoulders, but I wanted to get it framed to my face, with the front pieces longer than the back and angled. She worked with my hair and was actually very easy to talk to.\r I admit I can be very shy, but she was extremely friendly and had me laughing as well. She felt like a person I knew for a very long time.\r \r I admit I haven't had my hair like this for a very long time, so it's taking some getting used to! This is a great place to go to if you're looking for more than a trim, as the hair stylists definitely listen to you. I highly, highly recommend Michelle! more

This place offered exactly what I needed- an excellent therapeutic massage and a calm an upscale atmosphere. . The staff was very accommodating, friendly. The woman working my muscles checked in at least a few times to see how I was feeling, if I needed more or less pressure, where I preferred to have the massage focused. I will definitely return here. The hour was 80.00 plus a tip of ten. more

My favorite hair salon in Queens!. I'm so surprised someone said they had a bad experience. First of all, this is probably one of the most affordable high end salons in the city. I had partial highlights done for about $100, and the haircut about $70 too. They did an EXECELLENT job. The guy that cut my hair did it dry, and it's the best haircut I've had in the city. I've been to Bumble and Bumble, Red Door, Cutler, and Warren Tricomi to name a few....all in the name of a quest to find a great place. I finally found it. Beyond this, everyone is so friendly. There is no snobbery in this establishment. Everyone I spoke to went above and beyond, and they have a loyal customer in me now. more

After many color nightmares, I went to Shade after a friend recommended I try the salon. I was looking for a place in Astoria that was reasonable and professional and my friend is very particular and her hair always looked good so I decided to give the salon a try. Michelle understood right away what I was looking to do with my color and two hours later, I was the shade of blonde I love again! Thank you! more
